You thought it wrong, human. It just goes to show: Never send a Mandroid to do a Womandroid's work.
~ W-D40 to Wilco and his crew.
I know you're here somewhere, Wilco. Come out and face me like a woman. It's your destiny!
~ W-D40's famous line before her defeat.

W-D40 is the secondary antagonist in the 1993 video game Space Quest V: The Next Mutation. She is a female android that seeks revenge on the game's anti-hero Roger Wilco for previous transgressions against her kind in Space Quest II, including non-payment and destroying Arnoid.

After her defeat at the hands of Wilco and Cliffy, W-D40 later joins Wilco's crew in their efforts to stop Captain Quirk.

Background[]

Pursuing the Non-Payer[]

After seeing the Eureka leaving Starcon, W-D40 pursues Wilco and his crew across space using an advanced ship complete with a cloaking device, eventually confronting Wilco and the crew of the Eureka - threatening to destroy the ship if Wilco does not beam down to a nearby planet to face her wrath.

Wilco is left with little choice and beams down to the alien planet, W-D40 proceeds to stalk him and attempts to kill him with optical laser beams, however he knocks her off a cliff using a rock and into a pool of water, she survives but has her in-built cloaking device disarmed as a result.

Wilco manages to finally defeat her by using a banana to clog her jet pack, causing it to explode - in the process she literally falls apart.

Becoming an Ally[]

However despite her hostility, Cliffy insists on repairing her later in the game, believing she can become a valuable member of the crew despite the "misunderstanding" between her and Wilco, much to the latter's annoyance.

Sure enough with a little reprogramming on Cliffy's part W-D40 becomes an ally and even manages to save Wilco from the Goliath's mutated crew members in the later stages of the game, after freezing the Pukoids with liquid nitrogen and defeating Quirk. What happened to her after piloting the Goliath remains a mystery.

Trivia[]

  • W-D40's name is based on the lubricant of the same name.
