This was the tomb of Tulak Hord, known as the greatest lightsaber duelist of the Sith Lords. His skill was considered remarkable even in his time, when many true lightsaber masters lived. If you were to face an ancient Sith Lord in combat, you would learn that we are as children playing with toys compared to the prowess of the old masters.
~ Darth Traya to Meetra Surik.

Tulak Hord is a flashback villain in Star Wars. He was a male humanoid Dark Lord of the Sith and blademaster. As Dark Lord, he ruled the Old Sith Empire.

History[]

Early life[]

As a new member of the Sith, Hord quickly gained a formidable reputation, being a natural with the Force and lightsaber. A few years into his career, he fought, defeated, and earned the respect of Khem Val, who voluntarily became his most loyal servant.

Yn and Chabosh rebellions[]

Together, Tulak Hord and Khem Val put down rebellions against the Sith Empire on the planets Yn and Chabosh. During this time, he was sought out by a Lord of the Sith named Aloysius Kallig, who offered him his service. Although Hord first refused him, he was impressed when Lord Kallig defeated Hord's best general in combat. Kallig became one of Tulak Hord's chief generals.

Dark Lord of the Sith[]

At some point, Hord earned the titles Lord of Hate, Master of the Gathering Darkness, and Dark Lord of the Sith. This was met with some opposition, which Hord promptly silenced. Hord began to see his ally Aloysius Kallig as a threat, and had him assassinated.

Rumor began to spread throughout the Sith Empire that Tulak Hord had discovered the secret to immortality. As a result, he scattered his artifacts all over the galaxy, one of which he hid near the tomb of Lord Kallig on Dromund Kaas.

In the future tomb of Naga Sadow on Korriban, Hord placed Khem Val in a stasis chamber, which would be unlocked over two thousand years later by the descendant of Kallig, the future Darth Nox. Ironically, Khem became Nox's most loyal servant.

After his death, Hord was placed in a grand tomb in the Valley of the Dark Lords along with several of his artifacts, armor pieces, and his holocron. Somehow, however, his spirit manifested on Yavin IV during a period of immense Force activity, along with other Dark Lords such as Marka Ragnos and Naga Sadow. When the Outlander approached Hord, he hurled him back with the Force and let an echo of his power linger within the intruder. Prior to this, his lightsaber was recovered on Dromund Fels by the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Marr, and his mask was discovered on Korriban by Revan.

Quotes[]

Spoken by Tulak Hord[]

Easily the most ambitious, and therefore the most dangerous, of my rivals is Kallig. Therefore, he shall be the first to die.
~ Tulak Hord on Aloysius Kallig

Spoken about Tulak Hord[]

The Kaggath is an honored tradition of the Sith. Tulak Hord competed!
~ Darth Thanaton to Darth Ravage
You are still nothing to Tulak Hord. I was the greatest shadow assassin on Urkupp when Tulak Hord challenged me to honorable combat and claimed his victory.
~ Khem Val to Darth Nox
In his time as Dark Lord of the Sith, Tulak Hord was known as a master of the mystical dark arts of the Force, using his powers to plumb the depths of life and death. In the battles of Yn and Chabosh, Tulak Hord is believed to have used a ritual to draw the strength of his enemies to himself, growing his power and vitality. One ritual of Tulak Hord's gets only a scant mention in the histories, but is the subject of myth and legend - a ritual rumored to grant eternal life. No one has ever managed to uncover this mythical ritual, let alone perform it.
~ "The Ritual of Tulak Hord"
His command of the dark side and mastery of lightsaber techniques won Hord many battles, and each victory earned him enemies abroad and within the Sith ranks. Of the many who challenged his might, none were successful.
~ "Tomb of Tulak Hord"
The secrets behind Tulak Hord's great power were many, and they all but vanished from the galaxy with the Dark Lord's death. Generations of Sith have obsessed over unearthing his ancient teachings and artifacts, but Tulak Hord hid them well.
~ "Legacy of Tulak Hord"
On Yn, the Jedi had laid siege to an Imperial stronghold. Tulak Hord broke the siege single-handedly! And then he pressed forward to Jedi-held Chabosh, leaving nothing but Jedi blood in his wake. I never lacked Force to feed on in those days.
~ Khem Val to Darth Nox
When the Dark Lord of the Sith Tulak Hord fought and won his one and only Kaggath, he declared that the name of his opponent would be stricken from history - and his command was fulfilled. The Kaggath has the power not only to destroy an individual Sith, but to obliterate his entire legacy.
~ "The Kaggath"
He went on to conquer the Dromund system, setting stage for Dromund Kaas to eventually become the capital of the Empire. Imperial historians believe the worlds conquered by Hord number in the hundreds, but any records from his bygone era were lost in the Great Hyperspace War.
~ "Tomb of Tulak Hord"
The great Tulak Hord once pulled a ship this size from the sky.
~ Khem Val to Darth Nox
Three hundred years after Tulak Hord, the Sith Ergast tried to recreate the ritual the Dark Lord used to devour the spirits of his enemies at Yn and Chabosh. In its place, he discovered what he called the ritual of Force-walking. Requiring a Sith of great strength of will, the ritual of Force-walking allows the user to bind the restless ghosts of dead Sith to himself. Once the ghosts are bound, the ritualist may draw from their power, channeling it into a powerful exertion of Force energy against his enemies.
~ "Force-Walking"
[Tulak Hord's] artifacts will change everything, apprentice--you, especially. They will make you more powerful than you could imagine. I have foreseen it.
~ Darth Zash to Darth Nox
This artifact is one of five that together describe a peculiar ritual used by the great Tulak Hord when he conquered the Dromund system.
~ Darth Zash to Darth Nox
Created by the ancient Sith Lord Tulak Hord, the Red Engine was an infernal machine powered by hate and blood. Located deep in its creator's tomb, legend holds that those who unlock the secrets of the terrible device will gain access to the hidden teachings of Tulak Hord himself. Despite this potential prize, most scholars who have studied the Red Engine machine have eventually given up in frustration, thwarted by the complexities of the sinister invention.
~ "The Red Engine"
Incidents of Sith Lords imbuing their most precious possessions with some fragments of their dark power appear throughout Sith history. Such ritual imbuement can be used to inflict all manner of trouble on those who would steal these terrible treasures. The Dark Lord of the Sith Tulak Hord was especially known for this practice, and many possessions of Tulak Hord's have driven their discoverers to madness throughout the years. Tulak's madness is unique in who it affects, however; ignoring whether a person's spirit is dark or light, it afflicts only the weak-willed, driving them to delusions of grandeur and eventual self-destruction.
~ "Tulak Hord's Madness"
Now Sith, your artifact. I don't have it, and I'm glad. Thing drove my crew insane; they mutinied.
~ Andronikos Revel to Darth Nox
I sent a cruiser to recover the artifact, but all they found was Andronikos in an escape pod, half-mad.
~ Darth Zash to Darth Nox
This ancient mask, blackened with age, has an eerie glow and seems uncomfortably claustrophobic.
~ The thoughts of Revan
The sarcophagus that holds Tulak Hord's bones is trapped with the same dark energies that bound me in Naga Sadow's tomb. I feel them.
~ Khem Val to Darth Nox
I was only with him a very short time before he put me to sleep.
~ Khem Val to Darth Nox
The Emperor knew the spirits of the ancient Sith Lords could be a threat to his power when he returned to the known galaxy a century later.
~ Gnost-Dural
