The Merovingian was an exiled program in The Matrix. He acted as the secondary antagonist for The Matrix Reloaded and a minor antagonist in the sequel, The Matrix Revolutions
History
The Merovingian was an exiled program who does trafficking of information within the network of the Matrix. His key allies are the Twins and Persephone.
The Matrix Reloaded
Neo, Morpheus and Trintiy encounter the Merovingian in his restaurant to get the Keymaker. He explains cuase and effect to them while simultaneously refusing to give them the Keyamker. However unbeknownst to him his wife, Persephone has allied with them as she became tired of his constant adultery. Before leaving he vows to survive Neo as he has already survived his predecessors.
