Too bad you're in my world now, Brian! Don't you get it Brian? I am VGHS. Welcome to me!
~ The Law threatening Brian after breaking his keyboard.
Really, Brian? Really? I gotta admire your gumption, kid. You really want to play this game one last time? Okay. But, uh, the clock's ticking, so why don't you put that 'nade on your noggin, and we'll put this whole "is anyone on Earth better than The Law" issue to bed. Brian. What's with the face? I'm not the bad guy here. You were nothing. A nobody. And then you met me, and the whole world gave you a shot. And you blew it. You proved you were nothing. But suprise, here's your pal The Law, coming here to give you one last chance. So are you gonna take it? Come on Brian. You've got nothing to lose.
~ The Law to Brian at the end of Season 1 before his defeat.

Lawrence Pemberton also known as The Law (simply called Law) is the secondary antagonist of Video Game High School. He is BrianD's archnemesis, Jenny Matrix's ex-boyfriend, and a world-famous amateur FPS gamer, who begins the show as the highest ranked student at VGHS, as well as captain of its Varsity FPS team. Though renowned for his prowess in first-person shooters, he displays great skill in both Dance Ex Machina and Chess.

He is played by Brian Firenzi, the co-creator of the show.

Personality[]

The Law's personality is starkly contrasted to that of his arch-nemesis', Brian D. While Brian is a soft-spoken, good-natured kid, The Law is extremely aggressive, arrogant, confrontational, and domineering, never showing a moment of remorse throughout his campaign to subvert Brian and render his life at VGHS a living hell. Though its likely because of limited screen time, a lack of insight into his past or family, and writing that renders him a one-dimensional character. Though he generally seems to hide his malicious side in public, as evidenced when he fake befriends Brian at Jenny's party in Episode 4, The Law seems to have no qualms with exercising his control over his allies and constantly reminding others of their place, displaying an acute narcissism that borders on clinical.

The only form of legitimate companionship Law seems to have ever had in the series was with Jenny, whom he was in a relationship with for most of Season 1. Despite their status as boyfriend and girlfriend, the two were rarely shown together, and when they were, Law appeared to be possessive, especially around Brian. This possessiveness however, doesn't seem to have been emotionally driven at all, and its likely the case that he never cared for her, clearly showing no remorse when confessing to Brian that he'd never let her compete on Varsity. When confronting Brian in the Season 1 finale, after having disarmed him and in the midst of delivering a grand speech, Law claims that he is "not the bad guy". Whether or not Law believes this or not is unknown, though it does, at best, suggest an insane moral compass, if not a complete lack of one.

After being falsely accused of aimbotting in Season 2, the Law has a mental breakdown, losing his charisma and confidence and performing extremely crude gestures. After failing VGHS: The Videogame, he has an encounter in a mirror with a pixelated version of himself, who mocks him for losing his cool.

Biography[]

The show opens with Law on live TV, logging in to a random server and defeating the whole server. After seeing BrianD AFK, he attempts to play around with his avatar by placing a grenade on his head, only for BrianD to return to his keyboard and kill Law instead. After Brian is accepted to VGHS, Law appears and at first tells him to "Be himself", before breaking his computer and claiming that he "is VGHS". During Jenny's party, he forces BrianD to duel him, which ends up being the game of Dance Ex Machina in Jenny's garage. Law beats him, and reveals that he is dating Jenny. During a round between Varsity and Junior Varsity, Law makes Jenny put Brian on her team, and defeats him. Later, he mocks Brian, who instigates a brawl, that ultimately gets him expelled. Later, Law is interviewed while Varsity and Junior Varsity do tryouts. When Brian enters the tryouts do to a loophole in the system, Law joins the game in an attempt to win. He tries to kill Brian, claiming that he's a nobody, only for Jenny to attack, and for Brian to throw a grenade on him.

In Season 2, Law is framed for using aimbots, and becomes Brian's unwitting roommate after being hired by Coach Matrix. In Episode 2, he attempts to force Ted out of Brian's room using a legal loophole, before destroying the room entirely by Ki's suggestion and giving up. He later starts playing Ki's VGHS game, which he fails to complete. He then has a mental encounter with a pixelated version of himself who calls him by his real name and mocks him heavily. He then goes undercover in an attempt to discover who framed him, finding out that it was Shane Pizza. When attempting to record Shane, he is found out only for Shotbot to arrive, dressed as a girl. Law, oblivious to the costume, teams up with Shotbot to expose Shane, and begins falling for 'her'. When Shane reveals Shotbot to be a girl, Law rejects him, and is put in a dunk tank alongside evidence of him being framed. Shotbot saves him though, and Law is revealed to not be a fraud. He later rides a motorcycle to a drive-in and cries over Shotbot's death. In the season finale, he helps the JV team win, only to be invited to Napalm Energy Drink High School, which he gladly accepts.

In Season 3, he gladly serves at Napalm, before discovering Shane is the brother of Ashley Barnstormer, Napalm's captain. Having signed over the rights to his name, Law is replaced by New Law, who breaks his WASDS (keyboard fingers), and is forced out. In the series finale, he is invited by Brian to compete in the VGHS vs. Napalm round. However, he diverts from course to chase New Law, and the two make a wager that whomever kills Ki first wins the name Law. However, in their attempt to kill her, they crash the car they are in. After the game, Law congratulates New Law, and the two go to a restaurant.

Trivia[]

  • The Law has a best selling album, as stated on the Rocket Jump page for Episode 5. The only known song is "The Long Arm [of the Law]", which is briefly played in Episode 5 and is a song on Axe Legends.
  • He has two CQB Master M9 pistols (his signature weapon) and can effectively and quickly reload them at the same time, as seen in the trailer.
