Syntax is one of the two secondary antagonists(alongside Serpentine) of the 2D platform indie game Freedom Planet, as well as the final antagonist and true final boss of its sequel, Freedom Planet 2. A floating, cephalopod-like Artificial Intelligence, she served as Lord Brevon's assistant in his plans of his galactic conquest. She later got caught up in the conflict between the kingdoms of Avalice and Merga.
Syntax can change into different forms during boss fights in order to help protect Brevon and his assets.
She was voiced by Victoria Vitti.
Appearance[]
Syntax is a black and grey Robotic AI that resembles a Cephalopod. She has a single green eye, a green upper head and two green tentacle-like arms, unlike the average six-to-eight real Cephalopods have.
Personality[]
Syntax is programmed to provide intelligence, planning and defense, serving to protect Lord Brevon and all of his his assets. Despite being a robot, Syntax is shown to have a sense of humor, as shown in Thermal Base, where she tries to trick the Player into stepping on a floor panel bomb, in which she will say "Just Kidding" if they do, and again in the End Credits, where she appears and has a slap fight with her robotic look-alike, Pangu.
History[]
Syntax was first introduced as Brevon asked her to painfully brainwash Prince Dail.
She later reported Brevon about the situations as the latter plotted to rebuild his spaceship.
In Thermal Base, Syntax appeared throughout the whole level and fought the heroes with her spider and jellyfish form.
Syntax then battled the heroes in cancer mode in Battle Glacier.
Syntax finally fought the heroes one last time in Final Dreadnought 1 with her morpher mode.
At the end, Syntax is revealed to be alive.
In the sequel, Syntax is used as a decoy to protect Pangu from Merga. In the game's true ending, she hijacks the Bakunawa superweapon to continue its course to destroy Avalice's moon. However, Merga, having seen the error of her ways, helped the heroes defeat Syntax, presumably destroying the latter for good.
Trivia[]
- Syntax has sharp spikes on the end of each of her arms, which she possibly used to brainwash Prince Dail in the opening cutscene.
- Syntax is one of the villains from the original game to make an appearance in Freedom Planet 2.
