The Harvester Supreme Commander was the main antagonist of the 1996 science fiction film, Independence Day.

He was a Harvester that served as the Supreme Commander of a Mothership. He took orders from his Queen directly, and was the mastermind behind the first invasion, under his Queen's orders.

His vocal effects, like the other Harvesters in the film, were voiced by Frank Welker.

Profession[]

Supreme Commanders were the right hand of their Harvester Queens, and had their own Motherships to prove it. They specialized in commanding invasions, coordinated attacks, and traps.

The Supreme Commander from Independence Day exceeded expectations in all of those, as shown when he trapped David and Steven in the Mothership when they were infiltrating it, destroyed numerous cites at once by use of satellites in order to relay a timer, and the massive battalions that were board their ships when David and Steven were trapped.

Supreme Commanders also had the pivotal role of becoming temporary leaders for their colonies if their Queen died, but that would only last until they found another Harvester Queen to lead their forces.

Bio-Mechanical Suits[]

A Supreme Commander's suit was bigger than the regular one for smaller Harvesters, and even had its own seat inside. The Supreme Commander inside was connected to his Mothership via a computer screen in the suit. The Supreme Commanders' suit did not have a gun attachment, but could manually fire it by use of the suit's hands. The suits also had light blue patches on it, so they could be notified as Supreme Commanders from afar.

Biography[]

War of 1996[]

On July 2, 1996, a Supreme Commander was sent by his Queen to invade Earth with a Mothership, hidden behind the Moon and using Earth's man-made satellites in order to transmit a countdown signal to when he and his Harvesters were to attack. The Supreme Commander also sent down City Destroyers to Earth's major cities, including Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington, D.C., and when the countdown signal has reached the deadline, the Queen ordered the destruction. The Supreme Commander followed her orders, and major cities across the globe were demolished.

On July 4, 1996, the Supreme Commander got his orders from the Queen to attack Area 51. However, Captain Steven Hiller and David Levinson took a captured Attacker. They got into the Mothership, where they then uploaded a virus into the central computer of the Mothership, which rendered all Harvester spacecraft from the Colony ship to be vulnerable to firepower by the U.S. Military. That allowed several planes (which were led by President Thomas Whitmore, who was a combat pilot himself) to take down the City Destroyer in order to save Area 51 and its occupants.

However, as Hiller and Levinson were about to leave, the Supreme Commander soon learned about their presence, but they then fired a nuke into the Mothership's core before they made a close escape. That then caused the Mothership to finally explode, which killed the Supreme Commander and the remaining Harvesters on-board.
