~ Steven before killing people.

Steven Wilkins is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Mr. Kreeg) of the 2007 horror comedy anthology film Trick 'r Treat. He is a local principal who moonlights as a serial killer who has a love for the Halloween spirit.

He was portrayed by Dylan Baker, who also portrayed Aaron Downing in Law & Order, Henry Muller in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Bill Maplewood in Happiness, and Biff Simpson in Hunters.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

He appears throughout the film's segments mostly incognito, but has a role in three of them - The Principal, Suprise Party, and Sam.

The Principal[]

In his first appearance, he spots a local bratty kid named Charlie stealing candy. He seemingly takes it in stride talking to Charlie about Halloween and letting him eat some of the candy. It turns out that Wilkins has poisoned his candy with cyanide and as a result, Charlie vomits blood and chocolate and dies.

Later he buries Charlie's body in the back yard and hears his neighbor Mr. Kreeg, calling for help next door. Wilkins ignores him and continues to bury Charlie, along with another unknown victim.

At the end of the segment, Wilkins goes to his basement where he and his son are making a "jack o' lantern" which turns out to be Charlie's severed head.

Surprise Party[]

Throughout the film he can be seen in disguise as a vampire, using metallic fake teeth, a young woman makes out with a masked man in an alley. He affectionately kisses her neck but, when she looks down, she sees blood running down her body. The man smiles, revealing blood on his fangs.

The woman screams and makes her way to the street where the people are gathered for the parade. A couple walks by, but ignores her, thinking she's just another drunk party-goer covered in make-up blood. The woman turns around to see the vampire standing behind her and screams as he swings his cloak around her. He leaves her dead body on the sidewalk leaning against a building, as if she's merely passed out, and walks away.

He is stalking a 22-year-old, virgin girl named Laurie with intentions to kill her. Laurie is heading to a party her friends and older sister are holding and Wilkins corners her and bites her.

It is shortly revealed that Laurie has turned the tables on the vampire and dragged him to the party. It is there the helpless Wilkins realizes that Laurie and her friends are werewolves who lure men to their party to kill them and Laurie's "virginity" means that she never killed anyone yet. At that moment, the werewolves transform and kill their victims, Laurie herself kills the horrified Wilkins.

Sam[]

This segment coincides to a degree with "The Principal", it's revealed Kreeg was earlier calling for help when Sam was attacking him. Kreeg calls Wilkins for help, but Wilkins ignores him.

Epilogue[]

Although dead at the time of the epilogue, his son Billy has dressed up as him for the next Halloween.

Trivia[]

  • Steven Wilkins and Mr. Kreeg are considered the most evil human characters in Trick 'r Treat. In addition, both had also received their comeuppance by two other villains.
  • It can also be implied that he murdered his wife.
  • He is the second villain in Trick 'r Treat to be killed.
  • Wilkins was inspired by four real-life serial killers:
    • John Wayne Gacy - Both had children and dressed in a particular costume while killing their victims.
    • Andrei Chikatilo - Both had a son, targeted women and children and stabbed and mutilated their bodies.
    • Jeffrey Dahmer - Both kept victim's heads and met ironic fates of being murdered by another killer (in this case, Jeffrey was killed by his cellmate, while Steven was devoured by Laurie.
    • Edmund Kemper - Both kept human heads as trophies and (possibly in Wilkins' case) killed a significant female loved one (Wilkins possibly killed his wife, while Kemper killed his mother, as well as his grandparents).
