Villain Overview

Don't let him get away!
~ The Special Forces fighting Frank West.

Special Forces are major antagonists of the Dead Rising series. They are a group of well-trained U.S. special ops soldiers that are led by Brock Mason to kill every zombie and survivor in the Willamette Parkview Mall and later by General Hemlock.

Each Special Forces soldier is armed with a modified Colt M4A1 carbine assault rifle and well-geared with body armor and helmets. Whenever you kill a Special Force member you will get 5,000 PP. Killing 10 in one playthrough will get you the Legendary Soldier achievement.

Biography[]

Dead Rising[]

Several Special Forces helicopters can be seen flying above burning buildings while Connie and Dakota were driving in the outskirts of town.

When Ed DeLuca and Frank West were flying into town, they observed a barricade at one of the bridges consisting of barbed wire, sandbags, cones among other items, manned by eight soldiers and an armored vehicle. Flying further into town, after witnessing strange happenings in the main street, several helicopters begin to chase the unauthorized charter helicopter.

On the fourth day, September 22, the Special Forces begin their raid on the mall 12 a.m. At the same time, two soldiers, an escort and his guard, are talking to Jessie McCarney, telling her that if she signs the Official Secrets Act and pretends she doesn't know about the incident she will be free to go. However, Jessie turns into a zombie, due to her previous infection by Dr. Russell Barnaby, and kills the soldiers. While the soldiers speak to Jessie, the other soldiers begin their clean-up operation, killing every zombie (and supposedly survivors, too, who have not fled to the Security Room) on sight until 10 a.m., when they leave the mall due to zombies continuing to pour in.

In Leisure Park is a helicopter that kills all of the zombies, while the soldiers work indoors. In addition to soldiers and a helicopter, Scout Bots help clear the mall of zombies, along with any survivors.

Dead Rising: Road to Fortune[]

In the comic, John Kilduff and his special forces unit work alongside with Phenotrans to start the outbreak in Las Vegas in secret. Said agent was a close associate of Brock Mason and holds Frank in general contempt for murdering him in Willamette. Vowing to settle scores with the photographer when he gets the chance upon their first meeting.

Dead Rising 3[]

The special forces unit undergo a name change and are led by acting vice president General Hemlock to archive his pursuit of power. In the comic content, various DLC's and main story of the title; they act as major antagonists Nick Ramos and other survivors run into during their exodus of Los Perdidos.

In the beginning of things, our titular heroes can be seen running for their lives from both undead as well as military helicopters. Presumably owned by Spec Ops, which are firing missiles upon zombies and uninfected alike. Something that leaves Nick aghast at the sight.

Special mention of the atrocities committed by SPECFOR comes in the appearance of extra game content player character; Adam Kane. An operations commander whom had been assigned by his superiors to detain then active president of the U.S.A, Sonya Paddock, on maligned charges of supporting the recent outbreak due to her deference to the illegally infected within the city. Along the way he causes havoc in congruence with his orders, much of which is targeted at the very object of public unrest facilitated by his corrupt C.Os.

Visiting the local haven like domiciles of The Illegals and supplanting proposed insurgents using the very same parasite said superiors often monopolized to sow discord amongst the unenlightened masses. Not realizing until after he'd completed his mission and that Paddock ended up zombified did he royally louse things up.

Further details of the organizations misconduct would be elaborated upon once the secretary general and his associate, Sgt. Hilde Schmittendorf, are seen on live television outside the city wide quarantine zone. Selling the lie that an unchipped illegal was the cause of the outbreak.

Around the time when Nick and co. begin spelunking through the ruined city, The special forces could be seen setting up blockades and road deterrents that preempt easy travel throughout the city. More often than not, killing and/or rounding up any living individuals they can find if not outright executing them on the spot. Such happenstances took place more often than not as in the Fallen Angel dlc featuring its titular player character. Whilst roaming around the city in search of any surviving illegals, Angel Quijano served to fight through an alcoholic stupor caused by the onset of Kane's side mission escapades that severely crippled the thriving non-chipped persons within her factions care.

Often coming across and abstaining public executions of uninfected survivors petitioned by the more truly reviled members of Spec Ops before they could carry them out. She also discovered some particularly unsavory misconduct being facilitated by military scientists under the employ of moreso despicable interests whom kickstarted the disaster. Having freed a host of unfortunate individuals whom were almost used as experimental subjects for their own malignant ends.

Around the same time. Mr. Ramos could be found prowling about the local police station searching for concrete evidence against the special forces crimes. Only to find out the misgivings the Illegals had about trusting an incompetently corrupt government. Watching in horror as the Secretaries right hand murdered uninfected helpless people, all before meeting up with Red and Annie whom find their deceased friend Angel whom had been cut down by SpecOps. The hero of the story now coming to realize just how and why those who are ostracized came despise the establishment. Particularly after a raid on one of the safe houses they frequent ended in his witnessing the president's infection via forced ingestion of a parasite. All so he could usurp the presidency for his own ends.

During his later pilgrimage, Nick Ramos would rescue more survivors from Special Ops come across a Zombie Defense and Control agent who'd survived the initial onset of chaos resultant from the zombie crisis. A wayward agent by the name of Brad Park.

He was perplexed at the young mechanics accusation about the government affiliated sanctions running around Los Perdidos killing helpless survivors and would conduct his own investigations into the matter. The ZDC officer checks up at a resident hospital he'd been helping in the relief efforts where infected and wounded are holed up to peruse as to why his Zombrex Chip had malfunctioned. Only to stumble upon the conspiracy his supervisor; Hemlock, had concocted while dodging his more trigger happy goon squad in finding and rescuing more survivors.

Brad is dismayed to find just what lows the general and SpecOps would sink so as to secure power over the nation. Before rounding up any lingering stragglers whom couldn't evacuate the city limits, agent Park would come across the wounded commander Kane as he was slowly ailing from zombie infection.

Being shocked and appalled at hearing about how the general had president Paddock killed from the dying soldier. Adam would hand the ZDC operative a black box he'd procured but purposely abstained from destroying as ordered.

As a final node to a fellow civil servant, Brad hands Adam his gun so as to prevent himself from turning. Solemnly acknowledging how he, like Brad, was just on mission. After a while, Nick would team up with a prior established veteran survivor, Chuck Green, who eventually fell into criminal conduct to keep his daughter, the revealed to be Kattie Ann Green. From succumbing to her affliction by illicitly procuring zombrex. The duo would chance upon Hemlock, Mallon and more special forces stooges as the former defenestrates Marian off the top of a building after growing tired with her irate tirades and self-centered demands. The two preempt the mad armsmen's plan to weaponize the King Zombies unique properties to further his conquests via terrormongering.

Meanwhile the enlightened Mr. Park carries out his civic duty and reconvenes at the hospital to meet up with Cora back at the hospital to evacuate the patients within its walls. Then he would fight his way through the hellscape that is Los Perdidos teaming with zombies and renegade soldiers to pick up other lingering survivors. All before plowing through more Spec Ops soldiers in order to get out of dodge via rescue chopper he radioed for earlier.
