Curses, foiled again!
~ Snidely Whiplash

Snidely Whiplash is the main antagonist of the Jay Ward cartoon, Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties. He is a stereotypical villain with a tall black top hat and cape and a long nose and a mustache. He tries everything he can to get rid of Dudley Do-Right, the man who can do no wrong, and foil the Mounties, usually smuggling things across the border, kidnapping Nel Fenwick, or trying to take over the Mountie's post. Snidley knows he is a villain and takes pride in it.

However, on one occasion, Snidely expressed open disgust at his wickedness, to the point of saying that he "hates himself" for his habit of tying innocent women to railroad tracks, and was actually glad when Dudley arrested him, though Nell got him acquitted in an initially rigged trial (Dudley played the judge) by claiming that Snidely was an orphan who developed a habit of tying women to railroad tracks because no one was there to teach him any better.

Trivia

  • He was voiced by the late Hans Conried in the cartoon.
  • He was portrayed by Alfred Molina in a 1999 live action film, Dudley Do-Right.
  • He looks very similar to Dick Dastardly, Dishonest John, Bowler Hat Guy and Waluigi.
  • Similarly to Bluto and Peg Leg Pete, he is a well-known cartoon philanderer who tries to steal the main protagonist's wife or girlfriend, likely because he thinks she's pretty.
