I told you, didn't I? You're not coming home with me. I live alone! MY swamp! ME! Nobody else! Understand? NOBODY! Especially useless, pathetic, annoying, TALKING DONKEYS!
~ Shrek to Donkey

Although Shrek is the good-hearted hero of the Dreamworks' franchise of the same name, other versions of him, including internet fanmade versions and the original version that inspired the movies, have villainous traits and personalities. Those include:

Internet versions

  • Shrek (Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life): Originated on 4chan this is the meme who started everything. The main reason why Shrek have a more villainous role in the internet is because of this.
  • Shrek (Swamp Simulator): A similar version of Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life but worse. In an alternate reality, Shrek has turned into a serial killer who murdered Donkey and whose swamp has turned into a gloomy and nightmarish site.

Original version

  • Shrek (1990): In the original 1990 children's book by William Steig, Shrek is much more a villain than a hero.
