Being a champion of justice just doesn't pay.
~ Segai Waltz Makoto

Segai Waltz Makoto is one of the antagonists in Guilty Crown.

Biography[]

Meet Major Segai, a prominent figure within the GHQ Anti-Bodies and the primary antagonist of the story. Despite his ominous role, there's something intriguing about him – an eccentric charm highlighted by his clown-like makeup and a prosthetic left eye. This enigmatic man possesses a sharp intellect and vast experience, allowing him to skillfully gather information from various sources. He may indulge in casual conversations and mobile games, but don't be fooled – beneath the surface, he is sadistic and manipulative, willing to employ any means to achieve his goals.

Major Segai exudes an air of calmness, even in the face of danger. His work is like a thrilling game to him, though he does take his responsibilities seriously. As Shuuichiro's second-in-command, he plays a crucial role in orchestrating the freeing of Shuichiro from his house arrest by causing another outbreak of the Apocalypse Virus.

When Shuichiro provides the information Major Segai seeks and steps down from his coup d'état involvement, the major aids Gai, Ayase and Haruka in locating Shuichiro's whereabouts. After the chaos of the 2nd Apocalypse Virus outbreak, Major Segai assumes leadership of the Anti-Bodies. Intrigued by the power of the Void Genome, he becomes determined to possess it and harness the Void's potent abilities for himself.

However, fate takes an unexpected turn. Shu regains control of the Void Genome and ends Major Segai's sinister ambitions, ultimately using Yahiro's Void to bring about the major's demise.

Personality[]

Segai is an astute and crafty individual, adept at manipulating others to extract the information he desires. Shuuichirou describes him as a relentless hunter, dedicating all his energy to pursuing a worthy target, only to expose them completely once caught. Segai's loyalty is nonexistent, and he primarily follows his own interests, as evidenced by his fascination with Voids. He becomes enthralled by their unique abilities and is captivated by the sheer beauty he perceives in Shu's Void powers. This fascination drives him to seek ways to restore Shu's lost abilities, regardless of the consequences or implications it may have.

Biography[]

Guilty Crown: OVA Lost Christmas[]

In the prequel events of Guilty Crown, Segai was relentlessly pursuing Scrooge, who had sought to meet him under the pretense of being cornered, hoping that Segai possessed information about Da'ath. However, Scrooge's assumption turned out to be false. During their encounter, Scrooge demonstrated his Void ability, and Segai was mesmerized by the display. Amidst the fascination, a fragment from Scrooge's power struck Segai's left eye, causing him to lose consciousness.

Guilty Crown Anime[]

Years later, Segai replaced his injured eye with a mechanical one and changed his hair color, the reasons for which remained unknown. In his office, he received a work-related email before returning to his task at hand. Inside the room, a man hung from a rope, and Segai pondered whether the man should talk or not. He then ordered some men in the room to deal with the situation.

After Shu's betrayal and arrest due to Yahiro's actions, Segai interrogated him at the prison. Despite the questioning, Shu remained silent and spoke to Shuichiro about it. Segai showed Shu a video warning sent by Gai, revealing their intent to rescue a mass murderer responsible for the Sky Tree Bombing. He handed Shu a special pen, a transmitter to activate appropriate punishment whenever he encountered Gai.

Later, during an attempt to rescue Kido Kenji, the mass murderer, Segai was ordered not to interfere. However, driven by his own motives, he intervened and marveled at Shu's extraordinary power, describing it as "beautiful." He led an assault on a Funeral Parlor stronghold, allowing Shu to regain the Power of the Kings, captivated by the spectacle.

Subsequently, Segai made a sinister move to kill Ayase by using a semi-truck. Shu, wielding the Shears of Life, severed his connection to life in response. Segai, intrigued by the experience of having someone's soul inside him, allowed it to happen.
