Earle is introduced in Traffic case, "The Driver's Seat" where he is introduced to Cole Phelps and comments of how he is gonna keep an eye on him. In the last Traffic case, "The Fallen Idol", he appears to give Cole and his partner, Stefan Bekowsky, a ride to a nightclub where he introduces the former to Elsa Litchmann and Harlan J. Fontaine.
When Cole is promoted to Vice, he is partnered with Earle in the cases. However, he betrays him in the final case when he reveals to the press that Cole has cheated on his wife for Elsa.
During the Arson case, "A Walk in Elysian Fields", Earle sits to a table where Cole is in to warn him to stop investigating Elysian Fields, but failed. This only makes him realize that he is on their payroll. It is proven true when Jack Kelso finds his name on Leland Monroe's paper. As shown in a newspaper at the final case, Earle is trying to hijack the case Cole and Herschel Biggs working on, claiming Courtney Sheldon's death is by morphine. He then pulls out a gun on him, threatening that he is gonna blow his head off should he say something ill about Courtney more.
In Cole's funeral, Earle gives an eulogy as he denounces the accusations, which Elsa leaves angrily after accusing him of belittling his memory.
