He was voiced by Michael Sorich.
Biography[]
Past[]
As with all Orgs, Retinax formed from toxic pools of muck and desired to conquer the Earth by turning it into a polluted wasteland; ideal for their species. Led by the most powerful of their kind, Master Org, the Orgs attacked the Earth and culminated in a final battle against the ancient kingdom of Animaria 3000 years ago. Retinax became the Master Org's bodyguard and the most loyal of his servants. Although the Orgs managed to destroy the kingdom, the Orgs were destroyed and Master Org was killed by the Zen-Aku-empowered Predazord with only Retinax, Nayzor, Mandilok, Toxica, Jindrax and Juggelo (Jindrax's younger brother) surviving. Believing himself to be a worthless failure for failing to protect and save his master, Retinax abandoned his attack on Animaria, managed to avoid being sealed like his fellow Orgs and spent the next three thousand years wandering the planet as a self-inflicted exile for his failure.
Wild Force[]
In 2002, Master Org seemingly re-emerges and his presence causes the Orgs to reawaken and continue their rampage. Learning of his master's return, Retinax makes his way to Turtle Cove where the Orgs are based by staying on trains.
When he arrives in the Turtle Cove rail-yard, Jindrax and Toxica find him and he swore to destroy the Wild Force Power Rangers to redeem himself for his previous failure with Jindrax and Toxica also planning to use his vision powers to learn whether or not the Master Org they followed was the real deal or an impostor. Retinax attacked the city and encountered the Wild Force Rangers. The villain then fpught the multi-colored heroes. Retinax takes on the rangers and proves quite powerful, even deflecting their Jungle Sword Savage Slash attack. He comes close to destroying them after Freezer Org sacrifices himself to freeze the Kongazord, the Rangers' Morphers and Animal Crystals, destroying himself in the process. Retinax goes to finish them off and takes them on easily since they can't morph, even taking their crystals along with Jindrax and Toxica. However, the Soul Bird manages to reverse the work of Freezer Org and giving the Rangers back their Animal Crystals as well as give the Kongazord and the Wild Force Megazord the power they need to defeat Retinax. Retinax manages to survive and is confronted by Master Org but realises that this isn't the same Org he once obeyed. Realising this, Master Org was forced to kill Retinax in order to preserve his secret.
Retinax, along with Nayzor and Mandilok, was later revived in the thirty-eighth episode in his normal form during Master Org's Ceremony of the Org Heart. He is tasked with guarding one of the pillars involved in the ceremony but fails and later takes on all the rangers, alongside Mandilok and Nayzor overwhelming them with their newly-formed Nexus Blade. Despite their combined power, Retinax and the other generals are destroyed by the Jungle Blaster but they are then integrated into part of Master Org's ultimate form and are finally destroyed with him forever.
Personality[]
Of the three Org Generals, Retinax was the most loyal to Master Org. Being his bodyguard, he will do what ever he can to make his master proud, and will stop at nothing to destroy the Power Rangers and rule the Earth. He was also capable of acknowledging the worth of his fellow Orgs even if they were ranked beneath him, as seen when he explicitly honored Freezer Org's sacrifice to neutralize the Kongazord.
However, despite his loyalty to the Ancient Master Org, he was actually loyal only to the true Master Org and cared about him so deeply that knew excellently and perfectly how his master looked like. And so, he proved to be potentially disloyal to Adler which forced the latter to kill him before he could speak more. And he also realized that Adler was an impostor of Master Org and he realized this once he looked at the evil human scientist. However, near the finale of the season, Retinax was revived by the Ancient Master Org and fought for him against the Rangers. This scenes prove that he still remained loyal to the real Master Org, which makes him overall disloyal to Adler.
Powers and Abilities[]
Retinax's rank as a General Org is proof of his great power and he wields an axe with an eye embedded in it, that forms part of the Nexus Blade, a combination of all the General Org's weapons. He can fire energy blasts from his main eye, grow to giant size, and stretch his arms to wrap around his enemies.
- Power: Being Master Org's second-in-command general, Retinax was one of the strongest and most powerful villains in Wild Force, being driven by undying loyalty to the Org cause and to his master. In the episode "Soul Bird Salvation", he proved to be a formidable foe and it took the power of the Soul Bird to bring him down for the first time.
- Laser Blast: Retinax can fire green and red colored laser blasts from his hands.
- Size Changing: Unlike most Orgs, who require Toxica's magic beams to grow to massive size, Retinax can change his size at will by breaking apart his body into green chunks and then reforming it into a much bigger form.
- Lightning Vision: Retinax can fire red colored lightning beams from his main eye. He can also fire a strong white colored laser with red electricity around it from his main eye powerful enough to completely ruin the Kongazord and take it out with one blast.
- Arm Extension: Retinax can extend his arms to wrap around enemies.
- Teleportation: Retinax can teleport from one place to another at will.
- Lightning Laser: Retinax is able to fire a red laser with orange lightning around it from his hands.
- Longevity: Retinax can live for millions of years, having wandered the Earth for millennia.
- Strength: Retinax was indeed a powerful Org in terms of physical strength; in the episode "Soul Bird Salvation", he was powerful enough to overpower all five Wild Force Rangers, and initially the Kongazord without the Soul Bird.
- Durability: Retinax was also highly durable; in the episode "Soul Bird Salvation", he took hard hitting blows from the Kongazord without suffering much of a scratch, and even the Soul Bird Cannon failed to kill him.
- Hand-to-Hand Combat: In addition to his great strength, Retinax is a skilled fighter in hand-to-hand combat, being able to effortlessly match the Rangers.
- Speech: Retinax has speech capabilities despite lacking a visible mouth.
Arsenal[]
- Org Eye Axe: For an aid in combat, Retinax uses an axe with eyes embedded in it.
- Deflection: Retinax's axe was powerful enough to deflect the Rangers' Jungle Sword Savage Slash attack as seen in the episode "Soul Bird Salvation".
- Lightning Beam: Retinax could fire red colored lightning beams from his axe.
- Nexus Blade Formation: Retinax's axe was also used in the formation of the Nexus Blade as well.
Quotes[]
“ | Rhaal! Now all of you will face the wrath of Retinax! | „ |
~ Retinax after enlarging himself. |
“ | Wait. Who are you? | „ |
~ Retinax when he failed to recognize Master Org and his final words before his initial demise. |
Design[]
Retinax was a multi-eyed (he has eyes even in his main eye and more eyes on his left shoulder) Org with red and white skin, a dark purple horn, a clawed hand-like protrusion on his left side, and a light red cape.
Trivia[]
- Retinax's name was derived from the word "retina", which is a key bridge between the light that enters your eyes and the images you see.
- Out of the three General Orgs, Retinax's role in the series was the most reduced when compared to Shuten, who was in charge of the Orgs during the first part of the series, unlike Retinax, who only appeared in two episodes of Wild Force.
- Retinax was the first General Org to be killed by Master Org himself and not by the Rangers for the first time, the 2nd being Mandilok. His Sentai counterpart was instead destroyed by Nayzor because Master Org is an American-exclusive villain.
