Ray was a nightclub owner and a villainous character in the 1989 movie Harlem Nights.
He was portrayed by the late legendary comedian Richard Pryor.
Ray, while it may appear that he's a nice guy, is kinda a kid-hater, and seems to use them (as he did with young Quick), and he's fairly sadistic himself (I'll explain that one later). In the opening of the kid, he seems to have impatience with kids, telling young Quick, "Come on kid, give me my cigarettes."
Perhaps the biggest villainry of his is when he watches Vera fight. He chuckles along with the rest of men. You'd think he'd be more mature from seeing this movie, but he is not. He's sadistic and actually is worse than Cantone or the Toothless gambler because he enjoys watching violence.
He does seem redeemed (not really remorseful) for his actions, or at least he has changed, but he was a villain throughout the movie.
