The Ogrons are a race of humanoid aliens from Doctor Who that are described as a mix of both human and more primitive ape DNA - though they have evolved traits far superior to either, though they are often depicted as rather limited in intellect despite these great physical attributes.

As a whole the Ogrons tend towards lending themselves as enforcers and mercenaries to other species or individuals - surprisingly one of the Ogrons more frequent masters are the Daleks, who employ the Ogrons as enforcers despite Daleks having a well-known desire to exterminate all other species.

History[]

Day of the Daleks[]

In a version of the 22nd Century where Earth had been ravaged by World War III, the Ogrons were employed by the Daleks as a enforcers on the conquered planet. The Ogrons also answered to the Daleks' puppet ruler, the Controller, and were sent in persuit of time travelling Guerilla rebels to the 20th Century at Auderly House. The Ogrons managed to force them to return to their own time, butunknowingly left one of them alive. The Third Doctor had his first encounter with the Ogrons during their trip to the past, and would face them in the 22nd Century. Afterwards, another group accompaning a Dalek Squad travelled through time to attack the World Peace Conference in Auderly House, to ensure World War II boke out. The combined force batled UNIT, who held them off long enough for th delegates to be evacuated, and they were destroyed in Auderly House by the surviving rebel's bomb.

Abilities[]

Ogrons are many times stronger than an adult human and durable enough to withstand numerous gunshots - they have a weak point, however, in their head.

while usually depicted as somewhat unintelligent they are shown as capable mimics and as such can use weapons such as laser-guns and even operate computers and starcraft (suggesting far greater intelligence than they give off at first glance).

Trivia[]

  • The Ogrons are very similar in mannerisms to early depictions of Klingons from Star Trek, they also have a similar appearance to the revamped Klingons but predate them (the Klingon redesign occured in 1979 while Ogrons first appeared in 1972).
  • While the Ogrons appeared in two TV stories, they would also appear in novels such as The Romance of Crime and Mission Impractial, audios such as Return of the Daleks and Planet of the Ogrons, and comics.
  • According to the audio drama Planet of the Ogrons, the Ogrons involvement in Dalek stories is due to the effects of the Time War.
