The Nevi are the main antagonists of the Gravity Rush franchise.

History[]

Gravity Rush[]

The Nevi are first seen when an individual resembling a giant hand is seen terrorizing the people of Hekseville in the district of Auldnoir. They often appear around Hekseville, making Kat and Raven have to to fight them off. Kat has to fight against an Octopi-looking Nevi named Taion in the Ruins Rift Plane in order to progress to another one of Hekseville's districts. Within Pleajeune, a Nevi by the name of Cusuico merged with a girl called Echo, who Kat has to destroy to prevent the girl's death. She then went to the Inferno Rift Plane to fight against the Nevi named Lagan, only to instead fight Raven. Kat then went to the Mirage Rift Plane, but not before Dusty began to feel ill after eating "Nevi-B-Gone" (aka Nevi killer in the form of cookies) and, although a bit weakened, Kat went to fight against the Rare Batouyue-type Nevi herself in order to restore a part of Endestria. Afterwards, Kat had to fight Lagan for a second time, finally defeating him. A bit later on in Endestria, it was shown that Alias was using the Nevi in his plans and merged with a two-head snake-dragon Nevi, only to be defeated by Kat. Kat than went to receive a letter from someone, where she also fought against some Nevi, also coming into conflict with Raven once again until, she found herself at the bottem of the World Pillar, where s giant Nevi, Nushi, was terrorizing the child inhabitants of the village of Boutoume, leading both Kat and Raven into teaming up to fight it. As the children tried to escape in the Ark, Nushi followed suit, eventually emerging in Hekseville, where the it would be defeated by Yunica of Hekseville's special forces unit, Jellyfish. Following this, Yunica attempts to arrest Kat for bringing Nevi into Hekseville, though of their attentions are averted when the mayor's new weapon against the Nevi, the Sea Anemone, goes beserk, leading Kat, Yunica and Raven to team up and destroy it.

Gravity Rush 2[]

While Kat is searching for a girl called Cecie in the mining village of Banga, a Gravity Storm appears, bringing Nevi bringing Nevi with it. After Dusty returns to her, Kat fights off another giant hand-like Nevi. Kat later goes to help the miners fight against the Nevi and collect ore for them, only to hear that they call them "Scarabs". After the Nevi were defeated, Kat went back with the rest of the miners. Kat also fought a number of Nevi when she went to the Enchanted Zone, where she was looking for some ore. Kat would then embark on numerous missions around Jirga Para Lhao, defeating many Nevi. Kat and Raven leave to perform missions elsewhere, a small number of Nevi invade Jirga Para Lhao. The Council may have used the Scarab population of Neu Hiraleon to turn the island into a living creature to make it attack the upper islands of Jirga Para Lhao. Kat and Raven fight against the Nevi and later rescue Cecie from a Nevi-enfused Gravity Engine. After Kat returns to Heksevile, she notices a group of Nevi and prepares to fight against them, only to be helped by someone calling herself Kali Angel. Kat and Raven later head to Eto, where they notice docile, white Nevi. Kat and Raven later went back to Heksville to battle against the invading white Nevi being controlled by King Cai and Wolp, only for them to be possesed by a being known as the Destructive Force. Kat defeats the Destructive Force by sealing it within a black hole, seemingly sacrifcing herself to do so, though it is later revealed she survived.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale[]

The Giacago Nevi appears as a DLC Minion in this game.

PlayStation All-Stars Island[]

The Nevi appear as the primary obstacles in Gravity Rush: Infinite Skies, one of the game's four main mini-games.

Biology[]

Physical Traits[]

Nevi are predominantly made up of a black or white gelatinous material that generally retains its form but can sometimes shapeshift. Their eyes glow with a reddish light and appear to govern not just their vision but their consciousness as well.

Nevi can also grow protective shells, but these will take a while to grow back if destroyed. These shells sometimes hide additional eyes, which further supports the notion that the eyes are where the Nevi's brain is located.

Whenever one of the eyes is attacked they turn a deeper shade of red. When they are destroyed, they shatter like glass and any glow that was in them fades.

Nevi have the ability to transport themselves into other dimensions and can appear out of thin air. However, it is possible to attract them to certain locations using some unknown chemical, which can also be used to kill or at least injure them when combined with "Nevi-B-Gone".

Most Nevi have appearances that are humanoid or resemble real-life animals; it's unclear whether the animals they resemble actually exist in the Gravity Rush world or existed at some point. The animals they resemble are more-often-than-not based on marine life.

Behavioral Traits[]

The black and purple Nevi tend to mindlessly attack whatever is in the general vicinity. Initially, it is unknown why they attack in the first place. The level of intelligence demonstrated by the Nevi never goes above that of an animal.

Some Nevi have orange cores instead of pink ones. Nevi with orange cores are stronger and more aggressive than their pink-cored counterparts.

In Gravity Rush 2, Nevi that are tinted purple are stronger, faster, and more aggressive. In some instances, they may even develop new means of attacking. White Nevi are native to Eto, but exhibit different behavioural traits to the dark ones; unless they are provoked or commanded to attack, this breed of Nevi is usually friendly, docile, and pose little threat.

Rare Nevi[]

Rare Nevi are somewhat similar to their normal counterparts, except that they are green in color, as opposed to their normal variants being black and red. They are also stronger than others, and are even immune to any of Kat's special attacks.

Known Types of Nevi[]

  • Are: Scorpion-like Nevi that will attack with their whip-like appendages. Another variant of this enemy has no tail but will instead fire projectiles at Kat. In Gravity Rush 2, they are redesigned to be closer in look to lizards while the ranged variant does not appear at all. Purple tinted Are will attack twice and even lunge at Kat.
  • Jiu: Floating octopus-like Nevi that fire projectiles at Kat. Purple tinted Jiu fire two projectiles at once and have a faster fire rate.
  • Fugare: Frog-like Nevi that hop around and attack with their retractable noses. Does not appear in Gravity Rush 2.
  • Lancan: These types of Nevi almost look like humans and will charge at Kat with their whip-like appendages that can form into a sphere. In Gravity Rush 2, their entire bodies (minus their legs) are redesigned to have large alligator-like mouths. Purple tinted Lancan will pull a U-Turn for a second charge if they miss Kat, and will even jump up and try to bite her if she hovers above them.
  • Defente: Mollusk-like Nevi that will whip their arms at Kat. One of their two cores is protected by an armored shell which can be broken. In Gravity Rush 2, they are redesigned to somewhat look like sentient plants, and they can even shoot energy balls in a radius and whip Kat with their vines on top. One notable change is that their bottom portion is armored while the top is not.
  • Mosui: Mosquito-like Nevi that always fly and attack with their stingers. In Gravity Rush 2, they are redesigned to look like dragonflies and instead attack with axes that form on their arms. Purple tinted Mosui attack faster and more aggressively.
  • Malloid: Swordfish-like Nevi that attack by charging with their scissor-like horns. They are also very fast, so it is easy for Kat to be blindsided by them. In Gravity Rush 2, they are redesigned and reworked to be large schools of smaller fish-like Nevi that attack by charging with blinding speed and fireball attacks.
  • Giacago: Large humanoid Nevi that punch with their single elastic fists and use a short-ranged AOE blast whenever Kat is too close to them.
  • Eckiray: Spherical Nevi with lots of tube-like appendages that fire large amounts of homing projectiles at Kat. In Gravity Rush 2, a similar enemy can fire a powerful single laser beam, and the purple tinted variant of this enemy will spin while firing.
  • Kinoue: Flower-like Nevi that fire homing projectiles at Kat. Although they do not appear in Gravity Rush 2, a similar enemy can fling rocks at Kat via psychokinesis/geokinesis, but cannot protect itself with armor. The purple tinted variant of this enemy will fling rocks faster and harder.
  • Lorets: Giraffe-like Nevi that are extremely tall and have spindly limbs. They can fire a large gravity ball at Kat. Does not appear in Gravity Rush 2.
  • Shiga: Nevi that look like a fusion of a human and a shark. They can "swim" through solid ground and jump out of the ground to attack Kat, although doing so leaves them open for retaliation. Does not appear in Gravity Rush 2.
  • Manago: Fully armored Nevi that move around and reproduce Are type Nevi. Whenever Kat attempts to attack them up close, they will run away from her. Although they do not appear in Gravity Rush 2, a similar enemy can attack by stabbing Kat with large jagged rocks and create rock shields to defend themselves via psychokinesis/geokinesis. However, Kat can bypass the shields if she attacks them with a fully charged Surge Kick when she is in Jupiter Style.
  • Batoueye: Large leafy sea dragon-like Nevi that shoot lots of projectiles and are hard to destroy their cores due to their large numbers and awkward locations. Does not appear in Gravity Rush 2.
  • Minaye: Sea urchin-like Nevi that swiftly extend their spikes and impale anyone or anything close to them. Their eyes are fully concealed when attacking, but they have to recharge and, while recharging, become vulnerable to attacking. In Gravity Rush 2, they were redesigned to being just a spherical Nevi core with a ribbon-like pattern, giving them a less unsettling appearance. They also attack via emitting strong pulses in decent range.
  • Taion: A strange levitating female humanoid-like Nevi that attacks by whipping their arms and, once their two cores are destroyed, takes on the form of a flying saucer and fires a continuous stream of gravity balls at Kat, as well as charging at her. It first appears as a boss in the sixth episode of Gravity Rush, "The Lost City", but is later appears as a regular enemy in future episodes.
  • Cusuico: A large arachnid-like Nevi that first appears in the seventh episode of Gravity Rush, "Too Many Secrets". This Nevi possesses Echo and forces Kat to defeat it before Echo is killed by its possession.
  • Lagan: Large plant-like Nevi that first appear in the tenth and eleventh episodes of Gravity Rush, "Curiosity Killed the Cat" and "Thick Skin". Their cores are protected by its branches that look like claws, and they can fire plenty of jagged gravity balls at Kat, as well as summon Jiu type Nevi. In Gravity Rush 2, a similar enemy that looks more like a flower appears on the arms of a Nevi-infested Neu Hiraleon, and they instead spew clouds of toxic gas instead of firing gravity balls and summoning backup. Only appears in episode 10 of the second game, "The Crowd".
  • Nushi/Nucago: A large serpentine-like Nevi that terrorizes the Lost Tribe (aka the children from the bus crash) in Boutume, the city at the edge of the world. Nushi can create cannons over its body to fire at Kat, as well as fire a powerful energy beam at her, and it can also extend a tentacle of some sort to capture their prey. Its cores are also capable of regenerating, and Kat was unable to defeat it, but after Kat awakened her "mind's eye", she was able to see Nushi's weak spots and eventually defeat it. Nushi was later killed off for good by Yunica after Kat returned to Hekseville one year later.
  • Unnamed Giant Hand Nevi: These Nevi are only seen as a part of gravity storms and can swat Kat or grab and throw her if she is too close to them. Defeating them will cause the gravity storm to dissipate.
  • Unnamed Panther-like Nevi: Only seen in a nightmare about Alias that Kat suffers in the 19th episode of Gravity Rush, "Falling to Pieces". It spawns a shield that damages Kat when she tries to attack it. It was later finished off by Kat and Dusty combined.
  • Unnamed Grim Reaper-themed Nevi: A large Nevi based off of the Grim Reaper that appears in the third episode of Gravity Rush 2, "Trial and Passage". It can attack by swinging its scythe and throw it like a boomerang, as well as make one of its cores temporarily indestructible, spewing a large stream of debris to ground their foes, generate lasers, and create poisonous clouds of toxic gas. It later appears in rift planes when a strange gravitational phenomena occurs.
  • Unnamed Giant Whale-like Nevi: A large whale-like Nevi that appears in the ninth episode of Gravity Rush 2, "And the Soldier's Wife?". Will summon smaller coreless Nevi that self-destruct when close by. This Nevi is later summoned by Syd in the twenty-sixth episode, "A Song Without Voice" to distract the Destructive Force so that Kat can immobilize it for good.
  • Unnamed Parasitic Nevi: Only appears inside the World Pillar during the twenty-first episode of Gravity Rush 2, "The End of the World". They reside in some sort of nest, and can attach themselves to any other Nevi nearby, making them stronger and granting them extra protection.
  • Possessed Gravity Engine: Seen in the twelfth episode of Gravity Rush 2, "Black Eagle". It is the main power source of Neu Hiraleon that has been posessed by the Nevi, as well as holding Cecie hostage as its own power source. It can fire a volley of energy projectiles at its targets, summon mechanical spears that can generate lasers in the form of a net, fire a homing laser from its eyes, and summon a plethora of Nevi cores to sustain itself. It was later destroyed by both Kat & Raven
  • Echo (briefly): A former student of Arquebus Academy of Pleajeune known as Echo was once possessed by Cusuico when she was looking after it in a daycare centre. Cusuico Echo looked similar to a spider with four Nevi cores on her back and later one just behind her. After Kat defeated the Nevi and rescued Echo, and after a few years later, it sparked an urban legend of a demon called Choe.
  • Alias' Servants: While most Nevi act as the servants of Alias, during his boss fight, he summoned a pair of serpent-like creatures that fused with him to make a creature that resembled a hydra. Can fire loads of gravity balls at Kat and will perform a spring jump to any platform to evade her. They were later destroyed after Alias was knocked off and killed.
  • Sea Anemone: The latest super weapon of the Jellyfish Special Forces that was designed to control both Hekseville and the Nevi, as well as being the final boss of the first game. It later went berserk and began destroying the city. It attacks with its built in laser blaster and missile launchers, as well as a damaging field that is dangerous to be in contact to and, on one occasion, prepared to fire a super destructive energy blast at Vendecentre, but was later knocked off the clock tower with help from Gade's dimensional portal when he summoned the Ark of Boutume as a missile. In the climax of the game, Mayor D'nelica activates the Sea Anemone's self-destruct sequence, giving the citizens only five minutes to evacuate, heedless of all the death and destruction that the Anemone would cause, but Kat, Raven and Yunica were able to stop it in time, and Kat launches the Anemone to Neu Hiraleon, where it explodes.

Trivia[]

  • The Nevi share some similarities to the Heartless, from the Kingdom Hearts series.
  • It is hinted that the Nevi and Gravity Shifter's Guardians are in some way linked.
