It's normal for children to tease. It's not normal for them to bite! Clearly it's because of how he's being raised. In my opinion, a dog can never be a suitable parent to a little boy.
~ Grunion's most famous quote.

Edwina Grunion, simply better known as Ms. Grunion, is the main antagonist of DreamWorks' twenty-eighth full-length animated feature film Mr. Peabody and Sherman. She’s a plump, strict and cat-loving woman as well as the arch-nemesis of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

She was voiced by Allison Janney, who also played Gladys Sharp in Over the Hedge, Prudy Pingleton in Hairspray, Mother in Lost, 2nd 2nd Dimension Charlene Doofenshmirtz in Phineas and Ferb, Mr. Barron's Dr. Golan form in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Margaux Needler in Addams Family, and Colonel Howell in The Creator.

Biography[]

Ms. Grunion is first introduced when Mr. Peabody is meeting with the principal about Sherman biting his devious classmate Penny Peterson in the lunch room after she teases him nonstop, eventually restraining him in a chokehold. She walks out of an office in the side of the Principal's office. She is shown to have more power over the principal and is determined to have the adoption agency reclaim Sherman from Mr. Peabody. She doesn't acknowledge Penny's bullying and blames Sherman's actions on Peabody being a dog.

Later on, after she does try to apprehend Sherman, Mr. Peabody's fatherly instincts get the best of him and he decides to bite her arm just as Sherman did to Penny earlier. Ms. Grunion decides to call the police to have him taken away to the pound. Shortly thereafter, a hole is ripped in the space-time continuum when Sherman and Mr. Peabody return independently to when they are already in the present, resulting in two of each person. Peabody and Sherman fix the hole, but Grunion proclaims that one day Mr. Peabody will make a wrong move and that then, she will get him. Agamemnon grabs her as he is taken back to his time, taking her as well, preventing any chances of Grunion getting revenge. In a post-credits scene, she is shown with a new nicer personality.

Personality[]

Ms. Grunion is a pompous, selfish, manipulative and untrustworthy woman. She does not care for Sherman's well being, as she actually wants to ruin Sherman and Mr. Peabody's lives by separating them and making them miserable. She even went as far as reporting Peabody with a false accusation.

  • Although she is the main antagonist of this film, Ms. Grunion has little screen time, since the movie mainly focuses on Mr. Peabody, Sherman and Penny Peterson.
  • She bears a physical resemblance to Ursula from Disney's The Little Mermaid, Aunt Pristine Figg from Tom and Jerry: The Movie, Agatha Trunchbull from Matilda, Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Aunt Sponge from James and the Giant Peach, Aunt Lydia from The Handmaid's Tale and Ann Moss from The Plague Dogs.
  • Her first name "Edwina" is never mentioned in the film.
  • She’s the fifth character in a DreamWorks Animation film to be a female antagonist after Mrs. Tweedy from Chicken Run, Eris from Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, the Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2 and Chantel DuBois from Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. She’s followed by Chef from Trolls and Dr. Zara from Abominable.
