Mrs. Madison Hattie is the secondary antagonist of Illumination's 1st feature film Despicable Me, the first installment of the Despicable Me franchise.
She is the cruel owner of the orphanage that Margo, Edith and Agnes used to live in and the owner of the cookies that they're selling to make a living.
She was voiced by Kristen Wiig, who ironically later played Lucy Wilde in the same franchise, who became the girls' adoptive mother. Wiig also played Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984, Katinka Ingaborgovinananananana's disguise as Alexanya Atoz in Zoolander 2, Herald in mother!, Sharon Fishman in Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar, Madame Hagfish in SpongeBob SquarePants, and Balthazar Bratt's disguise in the second sequel.
Biography[]
Hattie is first seen on her computer, She then greets the girls when they return from their long day of selling cookies. When she hears of their progress, she then tells the Girls furiously: "LOOK AT MY FACE!!! Do you still think it's a great sale day?" She then tells the girls that they can either do better or end up in the box of shame as a wicked punishment.
She is then seen again when Gru (dressed like a doctor) comes to "adopt" the Girls to use them to steal back the shrink ray from Vector and use it in the moon heist, Gru then tells Mrs Hattie that she has a face of a donkey in Spanish. Hattie happily introduces the Girls to Gru and smiles as he walks with them to his vehicle.
Later on Dr. Nefario calls her off-screen to return the girls so that Gru can get the moon. She makes her final appearance when She tells Gru that she will return them and smacks him with a Spanish dictionary telling him she didn't like what he said. She gets the car ready to take the girls back to the orphanage and place them in the boxes of shame. It's unknown what happened to Mrs. Hattie after Gru recovered the girls but as long she doesn't succeed into getting herself money by making the girls sell cookies.
Personality[]
Miss Hattie looks to be a somber, severe, and indifferent woman in contrast to these qualities. Margo Gru, Edith Gru, and Agnes Gru are likely forced into child labor because Miss Hattie tells them to "go clean something of mine" before dismissing them.
Miss Hattie displayed her snobbishness and arrogance toward others when she checked online to see if Gru was a good person before he arrived to adopt the two kids. Due to her lack of culture and political correctness, she misunderstood Gru's unintentionally harsh remark that her face looked "como un burro" (Spanish for "like a donkey"), which she initially took as a compliment before looking up the definition in a lengthy Spanish dictionary and saving it to eventually slap him in the face with.

- She can be considered the Mr. Perkins to the Girls as she abuses and threatens them and runs the Orphanage like a nightmare.
- Miss Hattie is a parody Miss Hannigan from the musical Annie. They are both abusive orphanage owners both whom the children are frightened of.
- Miss Hattie is also parodies of Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter (movie and books) series. They both wear pink, have short brown hair, and are passive-aggressive child abusers.
- Miss Hattie has the same voice actress as Lucy Wilde.
- Miss Hattie may have taken or sponsored salsa lessons, as seen on a sticker on her computer.
