Matthew "Mooey" Humphries is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Max Humphries) of the 2003-2008 Grange Hill revamp. He is the nemesis of Alex Pickering.

He was played by Jonathan Dixon.

Biography[]

Series 26[]

Series 27[]

Series 28[]

During his third year at Grange Hill, Mooey began picking on a new pupil named Alex Pickering, and makes jibes about him being overweight and threatens him to pay him money every break time. Mooey's bullying causes Alex great stress, especially as he gets hassle already from his classmate Chloe Moore and her friends. He also comes into conflict with Alex's best friend Alison Simmons as she always jumps to defend Alex when Mooey and his friends give him any problems, much to Mooey's mockery.

Having had enough of Mooey's threats, Alex attempts to stand up to him and tries to punch him (but to no affect), which only amuses Mooey, who continues to threaten Alex for money, making it clear that he will still keep harassing him.

Alex later attempts to take his life by trying to drown himself in the school swimming pool, as the bullying got way too much. However he was saved on time and made a recovery. Chloe and her friends get a warning from the headmistress for their part in bullying Alex, and Mooey was excluded off-screen and not seen for the rest of the series.

Series 29[]

Mooey returns to the school, and it is shown the exclusion had no affect in his behaviour as he continues to taunt Alex. Alex tries to scare off Mooey by exposing Alison's flaky arms, and although this disgusts Mooey he continues ushering threats, making it clear he would catch up with Alex later. He turns up later in the day with a couple of accomplices and goads Alex into showing them Alison's sore arms, but feeling guilty for using her to get to him in the first place, Alex flat out refuses, which only angers Mooey who flicks his head and taunts him. After a bit Mooey gives up and leaves without any further incident.

Mooey also gets into conflict with fellow bully Chloe, as he felt he took the rap for her and her mates during his exclusion the previous term, even though they bullied Alex as much as him. He later cornered Chloe in the bathroom and managed to get money out of her, seeing through her facade as a weak little girl.

At the end of the school year Alex and his friends get back at Mooey and his brother by water bombing them.

Series 30[]

Following the summer break, Mooey and Max return with a vengeance, telling Alex that they hadn't forgotten about the water bombing. When Alex starts his own enterprise in the school selling milkshakes, Mooey and Max decide to muscle in and demand their cut. This leaves Alex struggling to make enough profit to buy ingredients, although Mooey and Max don't care about his plight and warn him to keep making them. Due to having to use cheap ingredients, Alex starts losing customers in the school. When confronted by the brothers in the kitchen, Alex has a small breakdown and smashes his blender he uses to make the milkshakes, meaning that his business is over. Nonetheless, the brothers threaten him that they still want their payment every week.

Mooey and Max come up with another scheme to sell raffle tickets and call upon Alex to sell them. Needing prizes, they demand Alex to get them items any means necessary. Alex's constant harassment causes him to start bullying a younger pupil and forcing him to be his enforcer, and the pair of them retrieve a giant fridge freezer and the Humphries brothers request. Despite their effort, the brothers reveal it is just a joke, and tell Alex to get rid of it.
