Mary Epps is the wife of Edwin Epps and the secondary antagonist of the 2013 bio film 12 Years a Slave.

She is portrayed by Sarah Paulson who later portrayed Sally McKenna.

Role in film

Much like her husband, Mary Epps was a racist, selfish, cold-hearted, sadistic, malevolent beast. One of the female slaves, a young woman named Patsy, was subjected to infatuation and rape by Edwin Epps regularly. As such, rather than confront her scary husband about the matter, Mary would physically assult and humiliate Patsy whenever she got the chance. Mary's only pleasure in life was making Patsy's a living hell, going so far as to force Edwin to whip Patsy for no reason until the poor girl's back was horribly disfigured.

She's briefly seen watching Northup being rescued later on. Though her facial expressions are not seen, she likely expresses disapproval and disparage over this.
