|“||Look who it is... What are the odds you and I'd end up at the same summer camp? Relax, this is not on you. It's on our little spider friend. I got some boys on the outside who'd love to meet him. You know, take a picture, slice his throat, put his head in a dryer. And I heard a rumor... You know who he is...||„|
|~ Gargan approaches Toomes in prison.|
MacDonald "Mac" Gargan is a minor antagonist of the 2017 Marvel film Spider-Man: Homecoming and will return in its sequel Far From Home in an unknown role.
He was portrayed by Michael Mando.
Mac Gargan is a New Yorker criminal and leader of his own criminal gang. Gargan is ready to buy futuristic weaponry from Adrian Toomes and a deal between them is scheduled. When Spider-Man interrogated Aaron Davis about the event, Aaron admitted that he used to work with Mac Gargan but left him due to Gargan's deranged behavior.
Along with some of his men, Gargan boards the Staten Island Ferry where the deal is supposed to take place. While one of Toomes' associates, Herman Schultz, deals with Gargan, they are suddenly confronted by Spider-Man. Both Gargan's men and Schultz attack Spider-Man but are defeated. During the fight, Gargan is kicked off the ferry but shot by Spider-Man's webs mid-air. Spider-Man yanks him back towards the ferry, which leaves Gargan clinging to the edge of the ferry until Toomes suits up and attacks Spider-Man in his Vulture-exosuit. Vulture crashes into the railing, causing it to break and hurl Gargan into the ocean. Despite the Staten Island Ferry almost being sunk during the battle, Gargan is arrested by the FBI afterwards and sent to jail.
After Toomes himself has been captured, he is sent to prison and meets Gargan in the yard. Despite being surprised to see that he and Toomes are being held in the same prison, Gargan assured to Toomes that there are no hard feelings between the two as Gargan blames Spider-Man for ruining their rendezvous and causing their incarceration in the first place. Gargan claims that he has contacts outside of prison who are ready to kill Spider-Man and mentions that he heard a rumor that Toomes knows the identity of Spider-Man, but Toomes lies and claims that if he knew, Spider-Man would be dead already.
- In the comics, Gargan is the alter ego of the supervillain Scorpion. This is referenced by Gargan's scorpion tattoo in the movie.
- Gargan is rumored to reappear as the main antagonist in the Spider-Man sequel. It's unknown whether he will become the Scorpion the sequel, or if he has perished along half of the universe's population by Thanos' death wave in Avengers: Infinity War.
