Behold the mind-staggering might of M.O.D.O.K.!
~ M.O.D.O.K.
If you think I've evolved beyond the joys of murder, you'd be wrong!
~ M.O.D.O.K.
I worked for A.I.M.... Didn't know they were bad people. Thought it... exciting science. Then one day... Four of them grabbed me. They injected me, pushed me in a chamber-- It hurt so bad... It hurt! And then, and then... It's all the nightmares after that.
~ George Tarleton, now as a normal human, recalling his bad experience while working with A.I.M.

M.O.D.O.K., or M.O.D.O.C., the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing (alternatively Conquest in some versions), is a major antagonist in Marvel Comics.

Originally an A.I.M. scientist known as George Tarleton, he would be mutated by his colleagues into a deformed cybernetic being with vast psychic and mental abilities. Although intended to serve as a weapon for A.I.M., he would instead take control of the organization and use it for his own purposes; often losing and regaining his position as leader at various points. Following his final defeat and being restored to his human form, he would be replaced by a clone known as M.O.D.O.K. Superior.

Since his debut, he has appeared as a villain in numerous storylines, such as being one of the two main antagonists of Fall of the Hulks and World War Hulks (alongside The Leader). He has been an enemy towards numerous heroes across the Marvel Universe, such as Captain America, Sharon Carter, S.H.I.E.L.D., The Hulk, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, and others.

Biography[]

M.O.D.O.K.[]

Formerly George Tarleton, M.O.D.O.K. was created by A.I.M. scientists to be used as an intelligent bio-weapon. With their creation of the Cosmic Cube, they genetically altered George's DNA, resulting in M.O.D.O.C. Mental Organism Designed Only for Ccomputing (later changed to Killing). His prime objective was to study the Cosmic Cube, but he instead killed the people who created him and took over their organization.

M.O.D.O.K. had his first run-in with Captain America, who went to save Sharon Carter from an A.I.M. submarine. M.O.D.O.K. was unsuccessful with killing the Captain, so be made the ship self-destruct. He was later discovered to be alive after Red Skull took the Cosmic Cube and used it to swap minds with Captain America. He and A.I.M. tried to manipulate the Captain into doing their bidding, but Captain America was able to overcome them.

M.O.D.O.K. next created a cyborg out of one of his assassins and used him to help rob a bank, but the money was destroyed. Around this time he also failed again at killing Captain America. Soon after he created a duplicate of Bucky to try and kill Captain America, but the droids memories kept him from succeeding. M.O.D.O.K. then sent a giant robot to try and kill Captain America, which also failed.

M.O.D.O.K. briefly had a quarrel with Namor, who he defeated and imprisoned. He later had to battle with Doctor Doom, who teamed up with Namor. They caused the Cosmic Cube to explode and destroy the A.I.M. base.

Eventually, M.O.D.O.K. abducts a woman named Betty Ross and transformed her into a Hulk-like beast dubbed Harpy, in an attempt to defeat Bruce Banner. Banner ends up curing her in his eagles nest. M.O.D.O.K., not too happy about this development, arrives with his troops and kills the aerie's guardian, but the ship ended up self-destructing, and so everyone had to evacuate. Around this same time, M.O.D.O.K. joins in on the Black Lama's War of the Supervillains. Unfortunately; he was defeated by Iron Man. Later during this time, M.O.D.O.K. transformed Dr. Katherine Waynesboro into "Ms. M.O.D.O.K.". She quickly fell in love with him, wanting to marry him. She changed her mind after seeing M.O.D.O.K. disintegrate the Abomination, making him turn her back.

A.I.M. eventually abandoned M.O.D.O.K. altogether for his failures. This caused him to seek out Abomination to take revenge on his superiors, but he ended up being too feral to be of any use. During this attempt, he transforms an associate fo Bruce Banner into Ms. M.O.D.O.K.. This was short-lived as she was appalled by his goals and actions, demanding to be turned back to normal. Around this time, A.I.M. had become so outraged with M.O.D.O.K. that they hired the Serpent Society to assassinate him, their attempts being successful.

After returning his body, his corpse was remotely operated in an attempt to destroy Iron Man, but this was unsuccessful. During M.O.D.O.K.'s death, he was replaced by M.O.D.A.M.. Eventually, M.O.D.O.K. is resurrected because A.I.M. needed assistance in recreating the Cosmic Cube, sacrificing M.O.D.A.M. to do so. He ended up getting lost in an alternate dimension which he traveled to willingly, but then returning with the villainous team known as Headman. M.O.D.O.K. helped them up until his taking back of A.I.M., going no further as to avoid conflict with the superhero team known as the Defenders.

M.O.D.O.K. had later tried to obtain an the invention of Mark Crusher. It's purpose was to turn the weak and the handy-capped into superheroes. Both he and A.I.M. were stopped by the Avengers. During this battle, M.O.D.O.K. was able to use the "Super Society"'s powers to create a massive humanoid body.

After another fight with a Canadian superhero, M.O.D.O.K. is captured by the United States Military, who wanted him to capture satellites and take control of the Stock Market. M.O.D.O.K. had later retained consciousness and swapped his mind with a man named Damocles Rives. He also converted his original body to pure data, sending it around the world in email form. Unfortunately for him; his original body had ended up killing every A.I.M. agent who had created him. M.O.D.O.K. in his new body battled the Falcon, Captain America, and Captain America's Anti embodiment, but was defeated and taken into custody.

He later escaped custody and took control over a lab in India and returned to his old body. After this failure he seeks the aid of the cybernetic species known as Phalanax by obtaining one of their samples, and also had some more brief encounters with rouge A.I.M. operatives (including his own son) and Ms. marvel. Behind the scenes, he had set up an elaborate plan which ended up restoring his power and A.I.M. status.

M.O.D.O.K.'s body eventually began to break down as the process that made him the way he was was unstable. He sought to regain stability by obtaining the G-TAC, but it was currently in possession of his forgotten biological son, Sean Madigan. Because agents of A.I.M. didn't want M.O.D.O.K. to be in it's control, they had commissioned Sean to help get rid of him. Sean ended up turning M.O.D.O.K. and his higher-ups against each other, which warranted Monica Rappaccini faction and Ms. Marvel's team to come in and defuse the situation. Around this time Sean modified the G-TAC to make it work against M.O.D.O.K. instead of cure him. Ms. Marvel flew M.O.D.O.K. into space to defuse it, killing him in the explosion. A.I.M.'s central organization disbanded, leaving splinter cells.

M.O.D.O.K.'s 11[]

Angered about Monica's control over A.I.M., M.O.D.O.K. assembled a team to get revenge. They consisted of Puma, Mentallo, Armadillo Rodriguez, Chameleon, Nightshade, Living Laser, Rocket Racer, and Spot. His plot was to steal the "Hypernova", which could be used to make his ultimate weapon. It belonged to the Infinicide, who were naturally-evolved M.O.D.O.K.'s from the end of time. His team was infiltrated by A.I.M.'s Ultra Adaptoid and two of the members were working for others. M.O.D.O.K. secretly replaced the Hypernova while it was being obtained in the Dark Dimension. To M.O.D.O.K.'s prior knowledge, the Hypernova was unstable away from it's original race, and his real plan was to have Monica give him money for what was essentially a bomb. After it's success, he regained his power once again.

Hulk Storyline[]

It is revealed that M.O.D.O.K. was responsible for the creation of the Red Hulk and Red She-Hulk after he had joined the organization known as Intelligencia. Now aiming to eliminate A.I.M., he escaped to Puerto Rico and created Monkey super-soldiers, but was thwarted by Mister Fantastic. Later in the storyline, M.O.D.O.K. captured some of the world's smartest men and brought about "World War Hulks". Many heroes were experimented on and turned into Hulk-like monsters, except for Amadeus Cho, who grew excessively strong in the mind. He used his power to transform M.O.D.O.K. back into his normal human state. Now a normal human, he fled the scene. In the event that his plans would fail, he set up a "Dooms-Day" plan, but this was foiled by Hulk.

Ultimate Universe[]

George Tarleton was the head of an A.I.M. space station where he tricked Vision into activating the Gah Lak Tus module, making her think that it would explode. Instead, he took it at her and took control of the module, which transformed him into a monster. He then led it back to Earth. He was met their by Vision who managed to undo the mental damage what was caused. He joined her in their mission to stop Gah Lak Tus. He Cooperated with Vision and Falcon, but he soon realized that their plans would fail. He contacted Dima, a robot, to self destruct and cause damage to the module. When Vision found out about this, she was distraught as she had formed an incredible emotional bond with it. She tore him apart and threw away his body. He survived and contacted A.I.M. to help him.

He resurfaced after Galactus had invaded with a cult composed of A.I.M. agents. He managed to take control of a Gah Lak Tus swarm and then had it merge with a city. A group of heroes came to stop him, and while the hero Hercules fought him, the others entered his city body. Danny Ketch used his brainwaves to take control and freed the innocent people bonded to it. Ketch killed George by making the mass self-destruct.

Powers and Abilities[]

George Tarleton is subjected to a mutagenic process that grants him superhuman intelligence, including a computer-like memory, the ability to scour and retain large databanks of information very quickly and solve abstract mathematical problems nearly instantaneously. He also has the ability to calculate the mathematical probability of any given event occurring; an ability so strong that it borders on precognition. However, his creativity remains at average human level. As M.O.D.O.K., the character also has psionic powers enabling him to mentally control both individuals and large groups, and generate force fields able to withstand minor nuclear explosions. Courtesy of A.I.M. technology, M.O.D.O.K. wears a headband that enables him to focus his mental power into a devastating beam.

A side effect of the mutation was the growth of Tarleton's head to the point whereby his body can no longer support the weight, necessitating the use of an exoskeleton and hoverchair. The chair is equipped with a variety of weapons including missiles and lasers. Occasionally, Tarleton had the use of a giant humanoid vehicle that was proportionally sized to his head. Tarleton's organs also wear out quickly, necessitating the use of harvested clones, whose organs are used to sustain him.

Weaknesses[]

M.O.D.O.K. is unable to move without his hover chair. M.O.D.O.K. also wears through his body very quickly. To counter this, M.O.D.O.K. has created countless clones of himself that he harvests organs from. He then uses the brains to power organic hard drives that control AIM equipment.
