Lust is a major antagonist in the 2003 anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, whose storyline radically differs from the manga. She is a Homunculus and the resurrected version of an Ishvalan woman. Unlike her manga and 2009 anime counterpart, this version is portrayed with much more sympathy and remorse.
In the Japanese version, she was voiced by Yūko Satō in the 2003 anime. In the English dubbed version, she is voiced by Laura Bailey.
Biography[]
Lust was created by Scar's brother in a desperate attempt to resurrect the woman he loved. She sides with the Homunculi and plays a role similar to her role in the manga, being seen encouraging humans to create the Philosopher's Stone and disposing of the witnesses and unneeded ones.
However, she eventually recovers memories of the human from which she was created and begins to crave for becoming human. This desire leads her to betray her fellow Homunculi when she realizes that Dante, the storyline's main antagonist, uses them for her dirty work and has no intention of making them human as she promised.
Lust gets destroyed by the storyline's counterparts of Wrath and Sloth. Wrath slashes her while in possession of a locket containing hair from her human form. Lust dies, embracing the mortality that defines the human race.
Personality[]
While her personality is mostly similar to her manga counterpart, this incarnation of Lust has a singular desire to become human, which was revealed in the later half of the series.
Because of this aforementioned desire, she is the second homunculus to rebel against Dante and has assisted Edward Elric if he can fulfill her promise. During her last moments before being killed by Wrath, Lust wonders where do homunculi like herself go when they die while admitting that her reason for wanting to become human was to experience "death".
