Villain Overview

This big, blue moose is all heart... and all thumbs! He'll be sure to keep you in stitches!
~ Description of Lumpy on his "Collect them All" card.
Here's Lumpy!
~ Lumpy parodying Jack Torrance when breaking through a door to scare off a crow.

Lumpy is one of the main protagonists from the cartoon series Happy Tree Friends. He is an unintelligent blue moose that appears in several episodes.

While he is usually not a villain (though his stupidity often causes deaths or injuries), he sometimes takes an antagonistic role, when his selfishness causes him to kill other tree friends.

He was voiced by Rhode Montijo and later David Winn.

Personality[]

Lumpy is usually portrayed as a hero and an imbecile, yet quite friendly, but there are a few episodes where he had a villainous role. While he normally kills because of his bumbling stupidity, he may occasionally harm others for his own gain. While he often survives episodes as his normal self, he suffers karmic deaths in all of his villainous roles.

Appearance[]

He is a blue moose (originally a dinosaur) with a low I.Q., teeth that appear on his nose or mouth, weird eyes, and mismatched antlers.

Versions[]

Dinosaur Lumpy[]

This early version of Lumpy exclusively appears in Banjo Frenzy, an early prototype for what would later become Happy Tree Friends. Unlike most of Lumpy's other variants, this version of the character is explicitly aggressive and violent, as he brutally murdered Cuddles, Toothy and Giggles when they laughed at him after his banjo's string snapped, and he laughed maniacally while doing so.

Genie Lumpy[]

In As You Wish, is Unknown to see Lumpy as geine, as the episode ended before he made his wish. (most likely survived his wish since he is immortal).

Giant Lumpy[]

Giant Lumpy is Lumpy as he is seen in Dunce Upon a Time. He lives in a castle in the sky and is similar to the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk. He is portrayed as the main antagonist, eating the normal sized characters and brutally killing them when they escape.

Vampire Lumpy[]

In the episode All In Vein, Lumpy was a vampire. He regularly lures some of the other Tree Friends by means of delivery, whereupon he hypnotizes them and stores them in his refrigerator. When he becomes thirsty, he would retrieve his still alive victims from the refrigerator. After he drinks their blood, or if their blood becomes undrinkable (Giggles had chunky blood), he would crush them like soda cans and throw them like thrash. So far, Giggles, Lammy, and Truffles suffered this fate, with Mr. Pickels being bitten off. Since Mr. Pickels landed near the "dead animals" bin, this could be evidence that he is a living being and not just a figment of Lammy's delusions.

Pod Lumpys[]

Main article: Pod Lumpys

Lumpys from outer space. They appeared in Peas in a Pod. They grow from a plant and whenever one is cut in half, two Lumpys grow in its place. The real Lumpy uses them to perform odd jobs, however, they

Villainous Acts[]

  • The most famous example is in "We're Scrooged", where his greed gets the better of him and he sells Toothy's organs for money. He stole The Mole's money at the beginning of the episode. He also has a momentary glimpse of conscience where he grabs Toothy, who almost fell into a box of razor-sharp deadly dentures. However, he was so consumed by the desire of money that, after a few moments of hesitation, he let Toothy plunge to his doom. He himself was the victim of his extreme greed as he tried to sell his eyeball for money but the end result was that he was crushed by a bookcase that fell on him and the only one who was there was the Mole that he stole from at the beginning of the episode.
  • In the pilot episode "Banjo Frenzy", he kills Giggles, Cuddles, and Toothy just because they laughed at him.
  • In "Class Act", he caused an explosion alongside Nutty, Toothy, Giggles, Flaky, The Mole, Sniffles, Lifty and Shifty.
  • He has an antagonistic role in "Every Litter Bit Hurts", where he is shown working as a garbage man. However, he is seen dumping his garbage into a lake, angering Giggles and making her hire volunteers to help clean up the mess. Lumpy also throws a stick of dynamite into the lake to catch fish, as well as cuts down an entire tree just to make one toothpick. He kills several volunteers in the process, and is eventually killed when the pointed stump of the tree he chopped sliced him in half.
  • In "Seize the Day", he uses a defibrillator on Cuddles while he is having a seizure, resulting in his death.
  • In "Meat Me for Lunch", he doesn't care at all that Lifty and Shifty were killed and he uses their dead remains so that he can sell it to the customers.
  • In "Dunce Upon a Time", he is portrayed as a giant and captures several characters he planned to eat. He kills Handy, Toothy, Mime, Flaky, Sniffles, and Cuddles, though is finally defeated by Giggles.
  • In "Happy New Year", he crashes his car into Flaky and Russell and then crushes Cuddles with a car door.
  • In "A Sight For Sore Eyes", he uses a glove from the hazardous waste bin to treat Russell. He also keeps a living dog, cat, tortoise, fish (out of water) and snail in a closet, hanging from hooks.
  • In "Strain Kringle", he intentionally throws a rock at Cuddles and Toothy, killing them in the process.
  • In "As You Wish", he sets Cub on fire and gets him run over by a fire truck. He also didn't seem to care that any of the characters died.
  • In "From A to Zoo", he cuts a snake open and stomps on numerous chicks.
  • In "Don't Yank My Chain", he mistakenly beats up and arrests Handy and the Mole instead of Lifty and Shifty, who stole their car and tricked Lumpy into arresting them.
  • In "A Vicious Cycle", he eats chips out of Disco Bear's brain.
  • In "Letter Late than Never", he reads somebody else's mail, eats a box of chocolates that doesn't belong to him, blows his nose on a letter, puts on a sweater that was supposed to be for Giggles, forgets that he is being chased by a murderous turtle when he stops to eat a sandwich that he pulled out of the mail, and sticks what he believes to be a package through Cuddles' mail slot when it would have made more sense to just leave it at the front of the door and knock.
  • In "Spare Time", he throws Pop's match right to the gas station and it lands in a pile of gas, causing the gas station to explode.
  • In "Tongue in Cheek", he hits Sniffles in the head with a golf ball, steps on Sniffles's tongue, preventing the latter to finally catch the ant he was chasing, and he also uses the skin from Sniffles' hand as a glove and uses Sniffles' organs as a mini-golf course.
  • In "The Wrong Side of the Tracks", he designs a roller coaster so poorly that it causes the deaths of the riders and himself. He also nails a wooden board to his ride with Mime impaled to it.
  • In "Treasure Those Idol Moments", he hits Flaky with his car in clear sight while she is in a playground. He is also completely unfazed while doing it.
  • In "Ski Patrol", he messes up and causes the deaths of numerous characters.
  • A Halloween episode "All In Vein" depicts him as a vampire who hypnotizes his victims before sucking their blood. After killing Giggles because her blood tasted awful from the fridge, he goes after the Mole only to end up in an ambulance. He gorges on blood bags and becomes so fat he could barely move, causing him to be boiled by the sun.
  • He was responsible for everyone's death in the TV episode "Wingin' It". He used a lot of machines that sent out signals in a plane, annoying Sniffles. After Sniffles (the pilot) gets crushed and sliced by a rolling food tray, he was scared and he selfishly took all the parachutes with him, leaving the others to get sucked out of the plane. But none of the parachutes were over his shoulders, so whenever he opened one, it just flew off his arm. His ultimate death was getting crushed by a filing cabinet; one of the many items he had in the plane.
  • In the music themed episode "The Carpal Tunnel Of Love" starring the band Fall Out Boy, his obliviousness caused the deaths of Nutty, Toothy, Cuddles, Giggles, The Mole, and all four band members of Fall Out Boy (Aaron Lewis, Mike Mushock, Johnny April, and John Wysocki, who are bears). He was also responsible for his own death and did not care about ruining Cuddles's and Giggles's honeymoon.
  • In "A Bit of a Pickle", he assaulted Lammy with a taser to her eye and possibly kills Cuddles by slamming a car door on him, chopping off his ears and feet.
  • In "Mime to Five", he treats Mime very poorly despite him showing obvious talent, abuses his killer ducks, and is responsible for the audience members' deaths.
  • In "Happy Trails Pt. 2: Jumping the Shark", he along with Flippy, Sniffles, and Handy, murders Flaky for popping the raft.

Trivia[]

  • Millions of fans started to hate Lumpy for his stupidity and for being the only character so far who killed Fliqpy. However, he is still liked for his comedic moments, causing him to have a generally mixed reception.
  • Although Lumpy's age is unknown, he, alongside Cuddles, Giggles, Toothy, Petunia, Handy (Happy Tree Friends), and Sniffles, is likely younger than Pop but older than Cub. He is also one of the few confirmed adult characters.
  • Lumpy is one of the eight characters in Happy Tree Friends to be a cop, alongside Cuddles, Toothy, Sniffles, Handy, The Mole, Disco Bear, and Russell.
  • Lumpy also is one of the six characters in Happy Tree Friends to be disabled, alongside The Mole, Handy, Russell, Petunia, and Mime.
  • Lumpy is also one of the five Happy Tree Friends characters to be an herbivorous animal, alongside Cuddles, Mime, Toothy, and Handy. He is also a vegetarian, not a vegan because he eats cheese, which is a dairy product.
  • He is also one of the six characters to be a doctor or scientist of some sort alongside Sniffles, Toothy, Handy, The Mole, Giggles, and Petunia.
  • His design is based on Bullwinkle, according to Lumpy’s page on the HTF Wiki.
