~ Lemmy
Lemmy Koopa is the small, playful, wacky member of the seven Koopalings, and a major antagonist in the Super Mario series. He is an avid fan for anything circus related, as most of his boss fights revolve around the use of one of his most defining traits: his rubber circus ball; his boss fight in Paper Mario: Color Splash even takes place on the top of a circus tent.
He is voiced by Carlee McManus, who took over Lani Minella (the original video game voice actress of Lemmy), and was voiced by Stuart Stone as Hip Koopa in the cartoons.
Lemmy is the sixth boss fought in Super Mario Bros. 3. He flies an airship in an ice world, and transformed the king into a seal with a magic wand. Mario fights him and defeats him by jumping on him three times. Afterward, he runs off, leaving behind the magic wand.
His fighting style is similar to Wendy's, in that Lemmy sends attacks flying around the room that will not disappear, but this fight is much easier than Wendy because the floor is flat (since Lemmy walks on a ball) and his attacks (consisting of rubber balls) can be jumped on.
Super Mario World[]
Lemmy is the third boss fought in Super Mario World. He is fought at Vanilla Dome Castle. He fights inside pipes, like Wendy does later on, with a fireball moving around. There are also two decoy Lemmys in the pipes, but these are scarecrows and are easy to distinguish from the real Lemmy. Once jumped on three times, Lemmy is defeated and falls into the lava.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga[]
Lemmy and the other Koopalings returned in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, not working for Bowser this time but Cackletta (who is possessing Bowser as Bowletta). Just like in Super Mario World, he is the third Koopaling to be fought by Mario and Luigi, and creates decoys of himself (except these are identical). Once defeated, he apparently dies and disintegrates like other defeated enemies.
Super Princess Peach[]
Lemmy and the other Koopalings were originally going to appear in Super Princess Peach (with sprites created for them already), but in the end they did not, with Super Mario Sunshine bosses like Petey Piranha, Gooper Blooper, and King Boo appearing instead.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]
Like his other appearances except his first, Lemmy is the third Koopaling to be fought, and like his first appearance, he is the boss of an ice world. During the battle inside his castle, Kamek magically enlarged Lemmy's walking ball, but Mario, Luigi, and the Toads were able to jump on him three times and defeat him, sending him falling over the edge. He survived, however, and is last seen in the ending sequence with Bowser and the other Koopalings (including Bowser Jr.) before Bowser's castle falls on top of them all.
Mario Kart 8[]
Lemmy, alongside the rest of the Koopalings, appears as a playable character for the first time in Mario Kart 8. He is one of the lightest playable characters in the game.
Super Smash Bros. series[]
Lemmy has been an alternate costume for Bowser Jr. in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Appearance[]
Lemmy has the same yellow and tan skin complexion, as well as a green head and spiked shell (though it's colored orange), like most of the other koopalings, although he has a ponytail and a distinctive pair of orange bars on the left-side of. He has large oval eyes that are often crossed or even pointing in opposite directions. Lemmy's head is oval-shaped and disproportionately large compared to his small body. Lemmy is the smallest of all the koopalings, around as small as Toad, as even early official material showed. He wears the same spiked metal cuffs as his brothers and his stomach and feet are padded.
Personality[]
Lemmy is described as a fun-loving child with some immature traits.
Like Larry, who always tries to do what Bowser says to avoid being yelled at and is lazy with it, and as a result, isn't really evil, Lemmy isn't all that evil either (granted the others in general aren't really all that evil). Lemmy wishes to join a circus according to the SMB3 manual but still serves Bowser in his schemes to destroy Mario. Lemmy opened up his own circus in Paper Mario: Color Splash where he puts on a circus show with many minions performing circus acts. Lemmy refers to himself as a "brilliant and humble" illusionist and stated that he wanted to make a fool out of Mario by defeating him in front of an audience, but proceeded to fight Mario on the roof of his circus tent. After losing, Lemmy sees a silver lining in that, saying that there is more drama in defeat anyway and that victory is overrated.
In the Mario comics, Lemmy is shown to be clumsy, with this being evident by the fact that he trips and accidentally tosses a bomb at both Mario and Bowser, almost killing them but removing their chains.
Powers and Abilities[]
Rubber circus balls: Since his debut appearance in the Mario platformer games, Lemmy is able to conjure up a large ball to move on top of. In addition, he is also to shoot smaller bouncy balls as a means of attacking Mario; the balls damage the plumber in the original Super Mario Bros. 3 while in subsequent games, the balls doesn't do physical damage and instead push Mario or Luigi.
Rubber bombs: In New Super Mario Bros. U, Lemmy gains the ability to launch bouncing bombs due to him not wielding his usual magic wand.
Trivia[]
In the Super Mario Bros. 3 manual, it is revealed that Lemmy would rather join the circus than destroying Mario, usually making him the least evil Koopaling out of them all besides Larry, who always tries to do what Bowser says to avoid being scolded and is lazy with it and slacks off because of how much he doesn't wanna do the work.
Lemmy's name is derived from Lemmy Kilmister, the late founder of the rock and roll band Motörhead.
Lemmy is insecure about his height.
He and Iggy were twins in the Super Mario Bros 3. and Super Mario World cartoons, going by the names of Hip and Hop respectively. They were also the youngest of the koopalings in the cartoons, going against the game's canon that Larry is the youngest.
