You tried to run away from your debt, Mr. President. I will treat you anyway I like.

~ The Legionnaire to Zavimir Serdar

The Legionnaire is the main antagonist of the 2008 video game Battlefield: Bad Company. He is the leader of the Legionnaire Mercenaries, who are said to be the most powerful military organization in the world.

He was voiced by Nathan Osgood.

Biography[]

Not much is known about the Legionnaire's past. According to Sweetwater, he was part of a French Foreign Legion platoon that was on a patrol in Africa, where they had stumbled upon a hidden cache of Nazi gold. The man who would become leader of the group conspired with those loyal to him and killed their platoon's commanding officer, along with anyone who disagreed with them. He, along with the remaining soldiers, took the gold, went rogue, and became mercenaries. They went on to become the deadliest army in the world.

Events of Battlefield: Bad Company[]

At some point, the Legionnaire and his Mercenaries were hired by the Russian Federation and the Middle Eastern Coalition to fight against the United States in war. Taking their infamous gold bars with them, they would do battle with the United States Army in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and later the formerly neutral country of Serdaristan. However, the Legionnaire would soon find him and his Mercenaries contending with Bravo One Charlie, a four-man squad in the United States Army who had heard of the legend of his group, and had begun hunting for their gold bars, even going AWOL in order to steal them.

He was first encountered by the squad while they were piloting the personal Mi-24 attack helicopter of Serdaristani President Zavimir Serdar, with Serdar in tow. He appeared behind the squad piloting his own Ka-52 helicopter, shooting down the former and having both Serdar and Bravo One Charlie, with the exception of Preston Marlowe, taken prisoner.

Marlowe later entered the basement of a Russian communications center, where he found footage of the Legionnaire with Serdar, where he claimed that the latter "tried to run away from [his] debt" and that unless he finds gold to pay him and his Mercenaries with, Serdar would be executed along with the rest of Bravo One Charlie. Later, Marlowe, along with his rescued squadmates, found him near a river mouth, telling Serdar that his "American friends" had escaped, and that because Serdar would never pay him the gold he wanted, he would take Serdaristan, and have the now-former President executed. However, as he flew away on his helicopter, Bravo One Charlie rescued Serdar from his would-be executioners, and later exiled him on an island in the Caspian Sea as they went on the hunt for the Legionnaire.

As the squad fought through the unfinished Middle Eastern resort city of Sadiz, they found the Legionnaire's mythical gold, confirming the rumors spread in the intelligence community. The Legionnaire attacked the squad in attempt to stop them from taking his gold, and he would fight in the squad in a pier in his helicopter. He destroyed the anti-air gun that Bravo One Charlie was planning to use against him, but his helicopter was ultimately shot down with three shots from a rocket launcher found in the pier by Marlowe.

After the fight, Bravo One Charlie made off with the Legionnaire's gold, presuming him to be deceased. However, he had survived the crash, getting up on a small island after being knocked out by the blast, and had a look of vengeance in his eyes.

  • As seen when Marlowe views the interrogation of Serdar in the level "Crash and Grab," the Legionnaire has a North American accent.
