I'm not trying to convince you, Adamai. If you want the Dofus, take them. They´re yours.
~ Lady Echo to Otomai and Adamai.

Lady Echo is the secondary antagonist of the French animated series Wakfu, serving as the main antagonist of OVA, Quest for the Six Eliatrope Dofus and the secondary antagonist of Season 3.

She is the second-in-command of the Brotherhood of the Forgotten, grouping demigods and children of dragons. During the OVA's, she steals the six Eliatrope Dofus from Joris, Kerub, and Atcham in order to prevent them from defeating Ogrest.

She is voiced by Hélène Bizot in the French language and Cherami Leigh in the English dub, who also played Kneesocks Daemon and Sunako Kirishiki.

Personality[]

Calm down, my dear. My name is Echo. And I mean you no harm.
~ Lady Echo introducing herself.

Lady Echo is sympathetic, gentle, and has maternal traits towards her own, which conceals her manipulative and Machiavellian personality. She hated the gods but is worried and protective of the World of Twelve.

She manages to win over Adamai of the Brotherhood of the Tofu by explaining the consequences of a clash between two beings each wielding six Dofus. She and Adamai seem to share a common belief of sacrificing a few for the good of all over risking the good of all to save any individual or smaller group. An example of this is when she expressed frustration at Harebourg for putting his kingdom before the World in his plans for the Dofus he guarded, and when Adamai fights with Yugo over the Dofus entrusted to him.

History[]

Background[]

Her first appearance occurs in the Ogrest Manga Volume 1 during the Dofus Age, leading a group of adventurers in search of unique children because they are thought to be children of the same Gods. Places them thanks to an egg with horns called Oracle. This calls its organization: The Brotherhood. They gather in the Kingdom of the Winds in which lie the ruins of statues of the twelve decapitated gods.

OVA: Oropo[]

Dofus game[]

In the MMO Dofus, we discover that Echo pretended to be an archaeologist named the Explorancient. Under this cover, she managed to associate herself with Vardo Tercar, a famous archaeologist who specialized in research related to an extinct civilization (probably the eliatropes). When Vardo found a relic in an underwater temple capable of opening a portal to another dimension, it was stolen from him. To make sure he didn't speak, she locked him in the temple, condemning him to die of hunger and thirst. The only explanation is that she only revealed her true identity to him.

Luckily an adventurer went looking for Vardo and freed him before he died, which allowed us to discover the truth. This story, like volume 1 of Ogrest, proves that Echo is not burdened with scruples. The fate of his neighbor hardly interests him. She sees others as tools intended to serve her personal purposes.

Unfortunately for her, thanks to Gein, she will be unmasked and the plan she had hatched to steal the Orichor in the Divine Dimensions will fall through.

Wakfu OVAS[]

I have explained what still happens if you use the Dofus. And I know you are smart enough to take the right decision.
~ Lady Echo.

In the Wakfu OVAs, we will discover that Echo is part of the plot behind the theft of the Eliatropes Dofus. While Ush and Count Harebourg will only return the Dofus after being defeated, Echo, for her part, wants to return them to Adamaï without fighting. She just asks him to listen to why the Brotherhood stole these Dofus knowing full well that they could not use them given that only a dragon or an elliatrope can activate their power.

Echo will therefore explain to Adamaï that if Yugo uses the power of the Eliatropes Dofus against those of Ogrest, the resulting fight risks destroying the world; it is only to prevent them from using them that the Brotherhood stole the Dofus. Adamaï is skeptical, but seeing that Otomaï thinks this hypothesis is plausible, he revises his judgment. As promised, Echo will let Adamaï leave with the Dofus, thus proving that his intentions are good.

In episode 2 of the Wakfu OVA, Count Harebourg implies that Echo is his big sister. It is not a real family bond, but the way in which the members of the Brotherhood refer to each other. Despite the obvious affection that Echo has for her "brother", she will be reluctantly forced to freeze the count to punish him for having lost the Dofus while seeking to use them for his benefit against Yugo to save Frigost.

Wakfu: Season 3[]

In Season 3, we learn she's actually a daughter of the goddess Eniripsa and not in charge of the Brotherhood of the Forgotten, but rather the right-hand woman of Oropo, the real leader of the said Brotherhood. She is very devoted to him and his cause, but she is also deeply in love with him. (It is implied they are sleeping together and when Oropo kisses Amalia, she is so infuriated that she reveals his plans to both the Brotherhood of Tofu and the Forgotten Brotherhood.)

Oropo is Echo's lover and their conversation in episode 6 is heavily implied to happen after having some fun. Nervous and insecure during a conversation with Echo in bed. After being presented during the series as a cunning, soft-spoken mastermind, seeing him laying himself bare with his fears and doubts to her is rather surprising.

She is, even more, pacifist than before, rarely resorting to fighting and rather preferring to negotiate with her adversaries. It is her floor in the Tower of Oropo that serves as a prison for Evangeline and Flopin during their stay there. When they try to escape, she and Toxine are sent after them, but when Echo tries to convince them to lay down their weapons, Noxine betrays her and almost drags her off to a prison dimension.

She also helps Eva deliver her third child at the risk of her own life as the new demi-god almost destroyed the tower during delivery. Later on, when Oropo calls them all to him, she is heartbroken when he shows his love for Amalia and defies him together with the rest of the Brotherhoods.

When all else fails, it is Echo who 'defeats' Oropo by sending all the people he loves (both Brotherhoods) through the portal to Inglorium before he can nuke it, using a tornado-like spell. Oropo can't bring himself to destroy them, instead stays with Echo in his world, detonating the bomb there, killing them both in the process.

Trivia[]

  • In the OVAs Echo is drawn a lot more sinister-looking than in Season 3. In the series, most of her facial markings are gone, her wings are more angelic looking than draconian, her horns are smaller, and the black skin of her hands and forearms is lightened to a soft dark grey, as are her remaining face marks.
  • She is one of the two demigods, along with Dathura, who never faces the heroes heads-on during Season 3. She was prepared to try and catch Eva and Flopin after they escaped her care, but Toxine backstabbed her instead.
  • In the English dub of the OVAs, Echo has a slight English accent while in Season 3 she has an American one instead.
  • It’s unknown whether or not Echo and Oropo are married to one another although it seems likely since they seemed to have slept together in episode 6 and is the only member of the Siblings to have a deeply close relationship with him aside from Adamaï as well being the one who was the most shocked and hurt by his betrayal although it could also be that they started their relationship without marrying or that Echo is Oropo’s girlfriend or fiancée. Regardless, it is never elaborated upon and is left ambiguous.
