These are Klank and Orbus, the footmen of the throne. They will stop at nothing until they conquer the entire universe!
~ Zordon describing Klank and Orbus.
Around, and around, and away ya go!
~ Klank's catchphrase when enlarging monsters.

Klank and Orbus were the right hand-men to the Royal House of Gadgetry of the Machine Empire, the ones responsible for enlarging their monsters and major antagonists in Power Rangers Zeo.

Klank was voiced by Oliver Page while Orbus was voiced by Barbara Goodson who previously voiced Rita Repulsa and Mantis in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Prince Sprocket and later voiced Somnibot both also in Zeo, Icy Angel in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Notacon in Power Rangers Time Force and was the female voice of Mandilok in Power Rangers Wild Force.

Biographies[]

Past[]

Where the members of the Machine Empire came from and who built them is unknown but they swelled in numbers and forces. An unknown amount of time later, the Machine Empire was forcibly annexed into the United Alliance of Evil because they feared Dark Specter but were allowed to continue thier conquests.

Zeo[]

Immediately after the death of the Hydro Hog, King Mondo leads the Machine Empire to the Moon where they drive out Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd using thier Quadrafighters. Mondo and Machina believe that Earth will be an easy conquest and order Klank to send some Cogs to quickly take the planet. Although the Cogs are defeated by the Zeo Rangers, King Mondo and Queen Machina are intrigued by this more than they are angered since all of thier previous conquests have been boring and too easy and the Zeo Rangers actually prove formidable. Soon after this initial attack though, Zordon begins building the Zeozords but Mondo easily discovers that they're in the Angel Grove Mountains and has Klank send a platoon of Cogs to sabotage them. When the attack is repelled by the Zeo Rangers, Klank announces that Staroid has been completed and Mondo sends the monster to defeat the Rangers only for him to be destroyed. Despite the defeat, King Mondo has the Cogs forcibly install a growth program in Klank and Orbus to enlarge his monsters starting with Silo.

When Kat and Tommy are assigned to look after a baby Joey as part of a school assignment, King Mondo sees an opportunity to use him as a tool to destroy Angel Grove. As such, Klank suggests that he send Boohoo the Clown due to his incredible sound enhancing abilities so Mondo does. Later, Klank and Orbus accompany a platoon of Cogs to the Angel Grove Power Plant to help Boohoo and later make him grow only for the monster to explode anyway. Despite thier ongoing rivalry with Prince Sprocket, the three often end up working together which is most notable when they aid Sprocket in creating his movie "End of the Power Rangers" on which they serve as "executive producers." Klank and Orbus are also allowed to execute thier own plans; most notably with Robocupid and Somnibot but both plans fail.

After the Super Zeo Megazord defeats Mondo, the Machine Empire goes inert for a time until Louie Kaboom arrives and assumes command. After he fails to woo Queen Machine, he has her and Sprocket thrown in prison but Klank and Orbus stay out of prison by switching sides to him and because he needs them for his plans. When Prince Gasket and Archerina later kill Louie, Klank and Orbus are spared despite thier treachery due to thier usefulness. However, they are used less often with monsters like Altor not growing giant and the Mechaterpillar being giant by default though they re-enter use once Mondo returns. Later, Klank and Orbus accompany the rest of the Royal House of Gadgetry when they meet with Lord Zedd and Rita who pretend to surrender but use a bomb to blow up them and the others.

Power Rangers In Space[]

Within two years, Klank and Orbus are rebuilt by the United Alliance of Evil but do not attend the meeting on the Cimmerian Planet. Later that year, King Mondo leads the Machine Empire in an attack on KO-35 and the Phantom Ranger's planet. Klank and Orbus do not participate and are left at the Skybase to look after Sprocket. What happens to them after this is unclear but they are presumed to have been vaporised by Zordon's Energy Wave since several Machine Empire Remnants are shown to have survived four years later but they are not among them.

Beast Morphers[]

Due to being long gone, Klank and Orbus do not appear physically but are recalled after Scrozzle proposes resurrecting Lord Zedd for Evox's plans. The villains appear to agree to these plans until Roxy reminds everyone of what Zedd and Rita did to the Royal House of Gadgetry as well as Klank and Orbus so they decide not to resurrect him for fear of betrayal.

Personality[]

Klank was an extremely loyal servant to his masters but was extremely prideful and demonstrated that he had a backbone. Despite being good friends with Orbus, he took any chance he could get to belittle his companion; most notably in "Target Rangers" when he ridiculed Orbus for complaining about the invasive growth program installation. Due to having a very thick Scottish accent, Klank often used Scottish slang in his sentences such as wee or haggis (a type of Scottish pudding). Klank was very loyal to his King and played a major role in helping him battle the Zeo Rangers. However, Klank was also a coward since he would serve anyone who claimed the throne since he abandoned Queen Machina to imprisonment and loyally served Louie Kaboom to save himself. He and Orbus had an ongoing feud with Prince Sprocket; Sprocket because he thought that they were useless punching bags and Klank and Orbus because they considered him a thin-skinned whiny brat who refused to take any responsibility for his own failures and took credit for their ideas. However, Sprocket would occasionally compliment them such as after Orbus enlarged Punch-A-Bunch in “Challenges” and, by the end of Zeo, they were more amicable and worked together to undermine Prince Gasket; having apparently put aside their differences.

In contrast, Orbus was more amiable and far less aggressive than his humanoid counterpart though he always sided with his friend in arguments. Unlike Klank, Orbus was more willing to agree with Sprocket in arguments though he never challenged Klank. Like Klank, he was very friendly to his partner but would also relentlessly mock him; most notably when Klank was captured by the lovesick Robocupid. Although both Klank and Orbus were usually depicted as comedically useless, they had a sadistic streak; shown several times such as after kidnapping Joey or when the Somnibot put the Zeo Rangers to sleep.

Klank: I’m afraid ya don’t hava choice. Now you’ve done it. You’ve created a disturbance in the production audio track.
Kat: What is this movie anyway?
Klank: Invasion of the Ranger Snatchers. Catchy title, dontcha think? That was a good try, Rangers, but not even yer mighty Zords will be able to help ya this time. Klank: Then it’s goodbye to Angel Grove and the Power Rangers.
~ Klank and Orbus when Mean Screen found the Zeozord schematics.
Klank: Yes sire. I’m on my way, sire.
Orbus: Hey, wait for me.
Klank: Unless my eyes are deceiving me, it looks like he’s actually winning. Well, this shouldn’t be too hard. Let’s give him a little boost. A slight increase in Mean Screen’s dimensions should do the trick. Are you ready?
Orbus: As I’ll ever be.

Klank: He didn't do it on his own, ya know. Now, go get 'em.
~ Klank and Orbus before enlarging Autocthon.
Mondo: What good is it to keep making Cogs if the Rangers just turn them into scrap metal? They're absolutely worthless! I am sick and tired of wasting valuable materials on robots that always end up as junk!
Klank: But dear majesty, do Orbus and I have a plan that won't use up any new materials at all.
Mondo: Well, go on. Elaborate.
Klank: It's a lovely idea and it all begins in our component dump.
Orbus: You see my king, we're using old parts to make a whole new robot. I give you Defector.
Mondo: Very clever but tell me, Klank. What makes your robot any better than the junk it's created from?
Klank: It is all in the way we plan to use him, yer majesty.
Orbus: We'll have Defector go undercover. He'll gain the Rangers' trust and lure them to a place where we'll be able to destroy them.
Mondo: And their trust will be their downfall. Bring this new robot to me.
