BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE! SOULS FOR THE SOUL EATER!
~ Motto of Khorne's followers.

Khorne (Kharneth or Kharnath in the Dark Tongue) is the Chaos God of War, Anger, Murder, Strength, Skulls and Bloodshed.

Of the four powers, Khorne is typically considered both the eldest and the strongest. He is the patron of warriors and any slaughter done in anger or within the throes of hatred empowers him. Savage barbarian or honorable soldier, all men who engage in bloodsport and bloody murder glorify the God of Battle. He is one of the overarching antagonists of the Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40,000, and Age of Sigmar settings.

An anathema to order and peace, Khorne desires eternal war and to grind down both the domains of his brothers and realms of mortals beneath his hooves. He hates magic and thusly sits apart from his siblings, who make great use of it in their endeavors. He despises cowards, wizards, and Bloodshed is his chiefest and dearest desire. The Blood God has little room in his black heart for any other concern, caring nothing for the vast majority of his followers. They are merely tools in which he uses to acquire skulls and build his seat of power: The Skull Throne.

Khorne's rival for power is Tzeentch, the Sorceror God being second to him in power, territory size, and the origin of all magic which Kharneth patently despises. However, it is the youngest and most glamorous of the Gods that Khorne hates the most: Slaanesh, the Dark Prince of Chaos. Khorne views Slaanesh as honorless, frivolous, and weak and finds him not only the most loathsome of his siblings, but the most loathsome being in existence.

Khorne's sacred number is eight. His colors are red, black, and brass.

According to Age of Sigmar, Khorne had seven siblings whom he bested for the Skull Throne.

Characteristics[]

Khorne, the Blood God, sits resplendent in his rage upon his brass throne, resting atop a mountain of bloody skulls, built from the countless heads of great champions his followers have slain over an immeasurable number of eons. No mortal man would be able to lay their eyes upon Khorne and survive.
~ The Book of Blood
The last took the shape of a massive warrior, bat-winged, armed with sword and whip, face masked with a helmet that masked all features. There was something in the stance that suggested a creature at once shambling and ape-like, but possessed of enormous physical power. This must be Khorne, the Blood God, Lord of the Throne of Skulls.
~ Gotrek & Felix: Daemonslayer

Khorne is often described as a humanoid entity with a fearsome canine visage, either that of a wolf or a hound. However, other accounts claim he resembles his Bloodthirsters[3], who themselves oft resemble fearsome dogs, though the Blood God is said to be infinitely more terrifying. He sits upon his brazen throne, brooding and clad in black and brass baroque armor. Khorne is described as broad and muscular, with a snarling expression on his ravaged lips. When he speaks, he does so in bellows of black rage and sparks jump from his lips with each syllable. He wears brass rings on his fingers, some emblazoned with his own rune and others bearing the heads of slain lesser Gods. His eyes burn with fury and he is described as having cloven hooves.[4] Though a master at arms, Khorne favors a single great sword capable of carving continents to pieces, destroying cities, and even cutting permanent wounds in the protean not-place that is the Warp.[5]

Khornedomain

Khorne's domain, which is an extension and expression of the Blood God's will and personage.

As befitting of a Lord of Rage, Khorne is a wrathful being, hungry for souls and as insatiable as any of his kin. The exact character of his mood, while never good, is changeable. At times, the Blood God simmers angrily, brooding on his Brass Throne as he overlooks his kingdom. Othertimes, his rage is apoplectic and the lands that surround reflect the change; the bloody seas boil, the skies rain down skulls, and deadly storms ravage the land, killing the combatants within. His realm, which is an extension and expression of his personality, is overseen by a blood red sky, clouds of smoke, and a constant charnel stench. The sounds of battle echoe endlessly, as warriors fight for his approval and just for the sake of fighting and killing. Khorne abhors magic, looks down on dishonorable tricks, but is ultimately not discerning of where the blood comes from, be it his followers or the foe. So long as there is blood and battle, the God of Murder shall be sated, however brief that satiety may be.[6] There is only a single being that Kharneth spares a thought for and that is his consort and queen, Valkia The Bloody.

Khorne is immeasurably powerful and hubristic, thinking his brother gods jealous of the abilities he weilds. His rage often consumes more complicated emotions, and so Khorne is a god of actions. No subtely has Khorne, and while not unintelligent, the Blood God often falls victim to the baiting of Tzeentch for the Sorceror God's amusement (and of course, his schemes). Nurgle is a god of patience and nurturing of plans, something else that is opposed to Khorne's creed. However, Khorne is most opposed to young Slaanesh, a God who values aesthetics, the arts, and develops his followers from the inside out. Kharneth has no time for eroticism or pleasure apart from the joys of battle. He builds his followers from without, increasing their strength and efficiency in the kill so that they may better serve his bloody purpose. Though his rage is immutable and his fury is unending, the Blood God has a savage intelligence and plays the long game just as all his kin. He sows seeds, so that his destructive visions may pay off in the future.[7]

Khorne is unique among the Chaos Gods in that he will personally enter battle if the tides turn out of his favor. With an honor guard of Bloodthirsters, such personal interventions are rare but undoubtedly consequential in the Great Game of the Gods.

Warhammer Fantasy[]

Legends[]

  • The Blood God was once locked out of his own Citadel while away at battle by the Daemon of Tzeentch known as the Changeling. This required him to assail his own home. The Changeling further stole the Brass Collars off of the Flesh Hounds of Khorne, melting them down and them using the metal to create dioramas of the Blood God's most humiliating defeats. In 40,000, the Changeling further snuck Nurglings onto the Blood God's mighty throne and when Khorne sat down upon it, an awful, flatulant sound was produced.
  • Khorne personally resurrected Valkia the Bloody after she ambushed by Slaaneshi daemons in her quest to honor him. Angered at her the manner of her death, the God of Murder roared and his bellow shook the very earth, waking Valkia from death. He then reformed her flesh into a shape more pleasing to him, ascending her into the ranks of daemonhood.
  • Skarbrand was another favored follower of Khorne. His finest Bloodthirster, the Blood God heaped praise and favor like no other upon Skarbrand, for the Deathbringer was the strongest and most prolific of his skulltakers. However, one dark day, the hubristic Skarbrand turned on his father after being cajoled into treachery by Tzeentch. Chinking Khorne's armor, the Blood God turned his murderour rage on his disloyal son, personally thrashing him, holding his traitorous form aloft for all the Kingdom of Skulls to see, and then throwing him out of his Realm.
  • Khorne once bested his three brother gods within the Great Game, declaring war on God of Pleasure after ascending to the position of strongest among the four. Overmatched and alone, Slaanesh called for a truce in return for information on Tzeentch: the God of Magic had a mighty weapon older than even the Chaos Gods within the Vaults of Aegis. Despite himself, Khorne was swayed and resolved to acquire this ebon blade from Tzeentch, reasoning that he should have it by rights as the Patron of Warriors and Slaughter. This became an obsession; Khorne forged a pact with Nurgle, ceding territory for assistance in battle against Tzeentch. Tzeentch could not hope to prevail against the pair alone and at last, Khorne came to hold the storied sword. He had vanquished Slaanesh, bent Nurgle to his will, and humbled Tzeentch and his satisfaction was so great that it nearly eclipsed his wrath. The sword is symbolic of that victory and Khorne swore it would never leave his side.
  • Despite finding Slaanesh repulsive to the extreme, the seductive young deity's allure nonetheless affects the God of Blood. He is attracted to Slaanesh just as Nurgle and Tzeentch are and nowhere was this shown more clearly than when Slaanesh created chalices for his brothers and gifted them to the other Chaos Powers. Khorne could not resolve his attraction with his wrathful nature, and so destroyed the Chalice of War. However, he felt compelled to repair it, only to break it once more. This cycle continues ad nauseum and the Chalice of War has been fixed and shattered countless times since being handed over to the Blood God as Khorne was unable to graciously accept Slaanesh's gift.

Daemons of Khorne[]

The Daemons of Khorne are legion of battle hungry, blood thirsty, and red-skinned fiends who crave little aside from violence and the flesh of their enemies. They are fragments of Khorne's own rage or else produced in his massive daemonic founderies and machine-beasts of war.

Bloodletters of Khorne[]

Main article: Bloodletters

Bloodletters are the rank and file fiends of Khornes army, called his Lesser Daemons. They are spawned from Khorne's fury, though it is postulated that the souls of the fiercest norscan warriors in service to the Blood God are reborn into these daemons. Upon creation, they are painfully merged with the Hellblades and then sent upon the battlefield to harvest blood and skulls for their dark lord. The Bloodletter is a red-skinned, rangy daemon with strength that belies their litheness. Their scaley hides leak blood, their backs bear boney spines or blood encrusted manes, and curving horns sprout from either side of their heads. They are the strongest of the Lesser Daemons.

Bloodthirsters of Khorne[]

Main article: Bloodthirsters

Bloodthirsters are towering avatars of war, a bellowing tempest of fury and destruction. They are seldom seen in the Mortal World as it takes a great deal of magic to sustain them, but where they occur they are often backed by a legion of Blood Daemons. Where the Bloodthirster treads, its daemons fight all the harder and no creature in the warp save great Khorne himself can match their strength. Bloodthirsters resemble bulls, hellish hounds, skulls, and even apes and fly to back on black leathery wings. They drop into the thick of combat, quickly acruing skulls with each sweep of their Axes of Khorne.

Flesh Hounds of Khorne[]

The Flesh Hounds of Khorne are giant canine beasts of war with reptilian features. They are said to be the manifestation of Khorne's disdain for ranged combat, magic, and cowardice on the battlefield. Accordingly, Flesh Hounds are used to flush archers from their hiding places and snatch them from their vantage points. They wear brass collars of Khorne which turn aside all magic and when the enemy finally breaks from the field and runs, it is the Hounds that run them down and savage them. Karanak, Simgaergul, Garmr, Gormr, and the Hound of Khorne are the best-known Khornate Beasts of War within the Blood Legions.

Juggernauts of Khorne[]

Juggernauts are machine-beasts, dread fusions of a daemons endless hunger for flesh and souls encased in a body of daemon-metal and infernal machineries. They are forged in Khorne's founderies and run in great herds within the Brass Citadel. Every so often, Khorne rewards a mortal champion or one of his daemons with the opportunity to tame one of the beasts; many are crushed, stamped into paste beneath the creatures brazen hooves. But, for those that survive, owning and riding a Jugger is a great honor.

Followers[]

Valkia The Bloody[]

Main Article: Valkia the Bloody

Valkia was the dread-consort of Khorne and one of his Daemon Princes. Though not known for his affections and caring nothing for his own followers, Khorne was noted to hold a regard for Valkia that he gave no other being. His eyes was often upon her wherever she fought and he faithfully ressurected her in the rare event she perished. Unlike most other Khornate Champions and followers, daemons and mortals both, who tithe skulls to Khorne for largely selfish reasons, Valkia serves Khorne out of selfless devotion and sees each skull as part of a dowry to be paid to her beloved.

Skarbrand The Exiled One[]

Main Article: Skarbrand Ragefeaster

Skarbrand was a Bloodthirster of Khorne and the most deadly and devoted of his Greater Daemons. Skarbrand led Khorne's armies to crushing victories against his brother gods, even allied together, and was the foremost of his generals. Khorne heaped praise and glory on Skarbrand for this, but one day, the Bloodthirster's hubris grew monstrous indeed. With some coaxing from Tzeentch, Skarbrand attacked the Blood God from behind with his twin axes, angering Khorne and resulting in his disfigurement and exile.

Ka'Bandha The Huntmaster[]

Main Article: Ka'Bandha

Ka'Bandha is the huntsmaster and leader of the Third Host of Khorne. He is a Bloodthirster tasked with hunting down particularly offensive enemies of the Blood God and collecting their skulls for his lord. Called the Right Hand of Khorne, Ka'Bandha is one of the Blood God's most skill warriors and caused the deaths of many major players during The End Times.

Arbaal The Undefeated[]

Arbaal is the man blessed and cursed to the bear the title of the Destroyer of Khorne. He is a Khornate champion who rides upon the back of the Hound of Khorne and as his title claims, has never been defeated. Arbaal has tithed thousands of skulls to Khorne as well as spilled untold oceans of blood in his name; once, the man meant to challenge Khorne himself. However, should he fail in battle even once, his title would go to another and Arbaal would be damned to be a Chaos Spawn for the rest of his days.

Skarr Bloodwrath[]

Skarr Bloodwrath was born to the Skaramor, a clan of Norscans so martial that they do not bother sailing south to kill southerners as they view only other Norscans as worth blooding their blades upon. Skarr killed the chieftain of his clan when he was only a boy and his legend and deeds have only grown from there, such as defeating on of Slaanesh's Keepers of Secrets. He has been slain many times, but Kharneth always ressurects him and anytime he does, Skarr's mind turns ever more feral with the Blood God's unholy rage. At present, he is little more than a rabid animal, scarcely able to work with other agents of chaos.

Scyla Anfingrimm[]

Scylla Anfingrim was a Ironpelt Norscan, one who won many battles in service to his Lord. For his prowess, the Blood God would visit many mutations upon Scylla, increasing his speed and his ferocity. However, the gifting of mutations is a risky business for mortals, even one so strong as Scylla and one of Khorne's "blessings" turn his Champion into a mindless Chaos Spawn. The Gods typicall abandon Chaos Spawn, but Khorne notably did not do so with Scylla, favoring him even in with loss of mind and new abominate form.

Abrax The Bloody[]

U'zhul The Skulltaker[]

Skulltaker is Khorne's finest Bloodletter, a daemon who wanders the mortal and immortal world in search of worthy challengers. He is marked out from other Bloodletters by his cape of skulls, each one taken from a worthy foe that Khorne allowed him to keep. When he finds an enemy worthy of him, Skulltaker battles them, finally breaking their arms and legs before burning the flesh from their heads with his claws and ripping free their skull. He has only suffered defeat once at the hands of Sigmar himself.

Z'guhl The Skullreaper[]

Z'guhl was the Khornate Daemon possessing Archaon. In return for leading him out of the Realm of Chaos and into the realms of the men, the Daemon bade Archaon find and free his sibling from the blade Slayer of Kings. The second everchosen, Vangel, had sealed the Bloodthirster away centuries ago but unfortunately Archaon would only honor the letter of the pact, not the spirit.

Warhammer 40,000[]

Followers[]

Khorne has many followers, and many who don't worship him directly, as any act of violence, especially carried out with hatred or rage are corridors of worship. A considerable number of individuals who fight against the forces of Khorne, or who practice acts or violence or rage or hatred regularly, eventually become obsessed with violence, and become willing followers.

One of Khorne's most powerful followers is his son and former-general, Skarbrand.

Khorne Berzerkers[]

Khorne Berzerkers are Chaos Space Marines dedicated entirely to glorifying the Chaos God Khorne through hand-to-hand combat. Driven by bloodlust, their only purpose is to kill and destroy their enemies in the name of Khorne. While worship of Khorne is not rare, true Berzerkers are most often created by surgical modifications to the brain of any Space Marine, which will put them into a constant state of rage. Berzerkers also possess enhanced superhuman strength beyond that of a standard space marine, allowing them to overpower enemy melee units of similar skill with ease.

Eschewing long-ranged weaponry, Berzerkers make almost exclusive use of close combat weapons, in particular the chainaxe. However, they are known to use almost anything as a weapon at times, often continuing fighting even when in possession of no offensive weapons other than their own bodies. Alongside their favored chain-axe they will usually also carry some form of pistol most commonly bolt pistols, hand flamers, or plasma pistols.

The original Berzerkers came from the World Eaters Legion led by Angron, who turned to worshiping the Blood God almost immediately after renouncing the Emperor; however, Marines from other Legions and chapters that more recently turned Renegade also took to Khorne worship, becoming Khornate Berserkers.

Khorne Berzerkers are rightly feared by friend and foe alike, and in accordance with their will to please the god of war Berzerkers find the need to spill "Blood for the Blood God" overpowering. They are known to kill even their own allies if caught in the heat of battle or lacking alternative adversaries, a situation epitomized by Khârn the Betrayer.

Their battle prowess and rage has earned them a fearsome reputation on the battlefield, although it also leads to them being unable to form a single, cohesive and mutually supportive unit.

Berzerker bands vary in size and strength, often lending their aid to whichever side offers them the greatest chance of combat and slaughter.

Champions Of Khorne[]

These are the Berzerkers whose bloodlust and combat prowess have made them stand out from the rank-and-file of Khorne's worshipers. Khorne's Champions are absolute terrors in close combat, hacking and tearing their way through anyone and anything that has the misfortune to be in their way. The Champions who can maintain a semblance of sanity tend to become the leaders of mighty Warbands, leading their fellows into endless battles and slaughters, eager to feed the Blood God's savage hunger.

Khârn the Betrayer[]

The greatest of all of Khorne's Champions, please see Khârn the Betrayer for more information on this mighty barbarian warrior.

Human Servants[]

While Space Marine Berzerkers are at the forefront of Khorne's worshipers, human servants are welcome as well. Sometimes soldiers, and more often warriors, Khorne will encourage all who are willing to spill blood for him.

While not as infamed, most of Khorne's followers are human or mutants who have given themselves over to rage and violence, or the worship of Khorne for the sake of killing. Many of Khorne's followers organize themselves into warbands, or underground blood- and warrior-cults festering under Imperial society. Perhaps the most infamous and successful army of humans gathered in Khornate worship is the Blood Pact.

Daemons of Khorne (40,000 Only)[]

Daemon Engines[]

Usually found supporting both the demonic legions and mortal followers of Khorne are daemon engines. Daemon Engines can vary greatly in form and function, but they are all unified by one factor - the physical shells of the vehicles/walkers contain bound daemons which fully control their actions and movements. Daemon Engines have an insatiable bloodlust and revel in violence and destruction. They also exude an aura of death and hatred that can overwhelm lesser foes and typically possess vastly increased durability compared to a non-possessed vehicle.

Skull Cannons of Khorne[]

Skull Cannons are manned by the same Bloodltetters that forged the machine itself. A monstrous fusion of daemonic spirit and hellforged machinery, its spiked wheels grind across the battlefield and mangle all in their path. Those in its way are fed into the Skull Cannon's gaping maw, there to be roasted by daemonic fire and broken up into fragments. These remains are for the most part ejected from the Skull Cannon's rear, for only the skulls of its victims are retained. These are then fused with the Blood God's wrath, set alight, and blasted in a fiery wake from the daemon engines cannon. The weapon (of which the daemon engine is named after) fires the skinless, charred skulls of Khorne's enemies, each infused with the Blood God's endless and abiding wrath until their empty eye sockets weep blood and their slack jaws jibber with rage. Only then, with an echoing boom, does the Skull Cannon discharge its payload upon its targets. The skulls catch fire as they are launched, and roar with evil laughter as they fly at frightening speeds towards their intended targets. They slam into the enemy ranks, burning them from cover and leaving a trail of scorched and blazing dead.

Lords of Skulls[]

Wrought only by the most skilled Warpsmiths with the bound spirit of a Bloodthirster, the engines of this towering contraption are powered by the boiling blood of murderers. Lords of Skulls are built in warp forges with the sole purpose of annihilating its enemies. Given its status as a prison of Bloodthirsters, Lord of Skulls are often worshiped by accompanying daemons who will stack gathered corpses and skulls atop the engine during battle. Though it is considered as the incarceration by most of Bloodthirsters, still there are few of them (mostly from the eight rank) who consider the Lord of Skulls like a suit of armour within which they may unleash war on the denizens of realspace.

Lords of Skulls are armed with a variety of different weapons, all of them unique and demonic in nature.

  • Great Cleaver of Khorne: Massive warp-forged chainaxes (said to have been blessed by Khorne himself) which ripple with barely suppressed warp energy capable of cutting off the legs of imperial titans and carve effortlessly through the hulls of battle tanks.
  • Hades Gatling Cannon: A left-arm mounted gatling cannon which fires hundreds of rune-graven rounds per minute from it's eight barrels which can rip through infantry formations and light vehicles with ease.
  • Skull Hurler: An alternative to the gatling cannon. This is an aptly named weapon which hurls burning skulls at it's enemies which explode in a fiery explosion on impact.
  • Ichor Cannon: A chest-mounted weapon which spits out great goblets of blood-hot shrapnel, not dissimilar to a shotgun. Those who happen to survive are likely to be left scorched or may find themselves drowned under a stream of foul ichor.
  • Gorestorm Cannon: An alternative to the Ichor Cannon. This weapon sprays a torrent of high pressure boiling blood (likely daemonic or acidic in nature) over a wide area. Those enemies that are not dissolved straight away are drowned in the blood, or even simply cooked alive inside their armour suits or tanks.
  • Daemongore Cannon: Yet another alternative to the Ichor Cannon. This cannon unleashes a gout of burning filth at it's enemies. The enemies engulfed by the evil tide cannot survive, for their armor, flesh and bone are reduced to molten slurry in seconds by its hellish and unnatural furnace heat.

Lords of Battles[]

The lord of battle is a colossal daemon engine and one of the largest daemon engines encountered by the imperium which closely resembles the lord of skulls in design, but while the lord of skulls is roughly the size of a super-heavy tank, the lord of battle is the size of a small titan. The Lord of Battles is a towering construction of Warp-forged black iron and brass covered in defensive Runes of the Blood God that protect it from psychic powers. A bloodthirster is the potent daemonic spirit unwillingly bound into this construct for the greater glory of the Blood God. The Greater Daemon is bound to the Lord of Battle's mechanical chassis, allowing it full control of the construct's arms and upper body.  The creature can be armed with several different Titan-class weapons, including a colossal, tank-sized hellblade for close combat on its right arm, and either a death storm cannon (a huge six-barreled ballistic cannon) or doom burner (a weapon which fires bolts of molten-metal) mounted on it's left arm. The Daemon Engine is also armed with a large ballistic weapon known as a Bloodletter Battlehead which is a massive Warp-forged cannon implanted within the construct's leering "head."

The Lord of Battles is such a powerful Daemon Engine that if it is destroyed on the battlefield the resulting explosion as its possessing daemon is expelled from realspace is catastrophic and may likely even tear a rent in the fabric of reality, opening a devastating warp vortex that can ravage the area and pull the enemies of the Blood God into the Warp itself.

Brass Scorpions[]

Brass Scorpions (also known as Scorpios Colossi) are super-heavy daemon engines which as the name suggests resemble giant mechanical scorpions, dedicated to the Blood God Khorne. They can range in size from a Leman Russ Main Battle Tank (4.42m) to a Scout Titan (13-16m) and is deceptively fast and agile for a walker of it's size. It excels especially at attacking heavily fortified positions and engaging entrenched infantry and has shown a level of bloodlust and delight for slaughter that is near-unmatched. In addition to being covered in thick layers of warp-forged armor plates it's also inscribed with runes of the Blood God, granting it added defense against psychic powers.

The Brass Scorpion is heavily armed, most commonly outfitted with a focus on siege warfare. It has a front-mounted demolisher cannon where a real scorpion would have it's eyes and mouth. The demolisher cannon is a heavy siege cannon capable of destroying entire builidings in just a few shots and because of it's large area of effect and high-explosive nature is highly effective against most other targets, even heavy tanks. it is also fitted with two unique hellmaw cannons; Massive flamethrowers that spray infernal warp-fed fire and molten brass located just beneath it's demolisher cannon. For close combat it is armed with two massive hydraulic pincer claws, each fully capable of tearing the heaviest of armoured vehicles into pieces and wiping out entire infantry squads in one fell sweep. The creature's claws are protected on their outer sides by large Warp-forged alloy shields. The Claws also feature three large in-built Chainsaw weapons, allowing them to cause even more damage during combat. Finally it also possesses a tail-mounted weapon where it's sting would be referred to as the scorpion cannon which gives it a full 360 degree arc of fire. The cannon fires heavy calibre shells that are effective against most lightly armoured infantry and vehicles. The Scorpion Cannon features a set of blades allowing it to be used as a backup melee weapon against enemy aggressors. The weapon receives its ammunition from thick, semi-organic cabling that travels up the rear side of the creature's tail.

Tower of Skulls[]

The Tower of Skulls is a massive daemon engine, dedicated to Khorne. The Tower of Skulls is hammered out of arcane Warp-forged brass and black iron at the very foot of the Blood God's mighty throne and infused with the essence of countless damned souls. Each and every Tower of Skulls is the equivalent of a small and terrible army in its own right. There are sixty-four known Towers of Skulls, each one named for an aspect of Khorne's beloved bloodletting. Legend tells that they roam the great arid wastes before the Blood God's citadel, unleashing their bellowing cannons to reap enemy and ally alike in Khorne's unholy name.

It takes a slaughter on a truly cataclysmic scale to draw a Tower of Skulls forth into real-space. To the worshippers of the Blood God, a Tower of Skulls' arrival is tangible proof of Khorne's favour. To the enemies of the Blood God, it is a sign that an already terrible battle is about to descend into carnage on an unimaginable scale. The only hope of victory for those facing a Tower of Skulls is to fell it in battle at all costs, yet this is no simple task. Each and every soul claimed by the Tower of Skulls infuses it with unholy power, allowing the machine to reknit even the most catastrophic damage, making it nigh-unstoppable. The war engine is powered by a Warp-spawned device known as a Doomsday Engine, a form of daemon-forged chaos technology that generates tremendous amounts of power for a Daemon Engine by burning the souls of the victims trapped within the war machine's mass of collected skulls located within its tower.

The vehicle's main weapon is its great, forward-firing Balemaw cannon, a ballistic weapon of extreme power. Further up the tower's height are two hull-mounted skullreaper cannons, large six-barreled weapons. The engine is also armed with two top sponson-mounted doomfire cannons (likely some form of incendiary weapon) and two sponson-mounted twin-barreled skullshredder cannons for anti-infantry defence. In addition to its potent firepower, the Tower of Skulls is capable of crushing infantry and lesser vehicles with its considerable bulk and bladed hull. The Tower of Skulls normally takes advantage of its formidable armaments and armour by plunging directly into the midst of enemy formations—blasting away with its cannons and crushing foes under its blood-smeared treads. Finally it is also inscribed with runes of the Blood God like all khornate daemon engines giving it added defense against psychic powers, acting as a reflection of the hatred that Khorne and his followers display for those who practice such arts.
