Kelly Van Ryan is one of the main antagonists of the 1998 movie, Wild Things.
She was portrayed by Denise Richards.
Kelly tells her mom, Sandra, that Sam Lombardo raped her one day when she skips school and then they go to the police. Detectives Duquette and Perez are assigned to the case. Meanwhile Sam hires attorney Ken Bowden, who reveals to Sam that behind Kelly's all-American teen girl next door she's really an irate, sexually confused cokehead, who hates her family.
When the trial starts, Ken interrogates Suzie, who tells cops, Duquette and Perez that Sam raped her as well. But when Ken threatens to have Suzie imprisoned unless she tells it like it is about Sam. She says that Sam didn't rape her or Kelly and that they made up the charges to get vengeance on Sam for wrongs he did back in the day. Sandra is embarrassed by the verdict and settles with Sam. Sam is rewarded 8.5 million dollars and then it turns out that Sam, Kelly, and Suzie had planned everything and sleeping together. They plan to divide the money between the trio.
Duquette thinks that this is all a game, that the 3 made up to get rich and get even with Sandra in the process. He interviews them and then gets into it with Kelly at her guest house. This results in Kelly getting killed.
- It is unclear whether Kelly is meant to be a protagonist villain or antagonist. As the plot of the film mostly focuses on their scheme, however, the protagonist is generally Ray Duquette, despite his true nature.
- For the infamous menage a trois scene between Matt Dillon, Denise Richards and Neve Campbell, the actors drank a bottle of tequila, according to director, John Mcnaughton, in the DVD commentary.
- Kelly is shown to be experienced with guns.
