John Herod was the 'leader' of the town of Redemption and the main antagonist in the 1995 movie The Quick and the Dead.
He was portrayed by Gene Hackman.
A ruthless monster deadly accurate with his pistol, Herod was the outlaw who is responsible for the death of the protagonist Ellen's father and many other people.
He heavily taxed the people of Redemption in return for his 'protection' as the town's unlawful sheriff.
In the end after the fatal death of his son Fee "The Kid" Herod by his own hands in a gun duel, he was killed by The Lady, better known as Ellen, the same young woman whose father the sherrif he murdered.
