Jaffar is the main antagonist of the 1940 Technicolor fantasy remake The Thief of Bagdad of the 1924 American swashbuckler, fantasy film of the same name. He is a diabolical magician who plots with his slimy assistant, Halima, to usurp the sultan Ahmed and take over his kingdom.
Jaffar was portrayed by Conrad Veidt.
To make sure nothing stands in his way, he must capture and kill Abu, the thief. He almost succeeds, but Abu defeats him by shooting a crossbow into his forehead, killing him.
- Jaffar is probably the inspiration for Jafar from Disney's Aladdin.
