You're the ones who caused this nightmare! You ruined Santa Cabeza and started all this!
~ Isabela Keyes

Isabela Keyes is a major character in the Dead Rising series.

She is the younger sister of Carlito Keyes, the mastermind behind the Willamette Incident and helped him infect the population as an act of revenge for the destruction of Santa Cabeza. After being reformed and preventing her brother from infecting the entire country, she began working for the Phenotrans company to develop a cure for the zombie virus.

She was voiced by Kim Mai Guest in Dead Rising, Venus Terzo in Dead Rising 2: Case West, and Veronica Diaz in Dead Rising 3.

Biography[]

Dead Rising[]

Isabela is first seen in the Entrance Plaza of the Willamette Parkview Mall where Frank is looking at her. He tries to approach her, but a man stops him, saying "this is no time to ogle pretty girls". The next day, he saw her again being held hostage by Steven Chapman, the manager of a supermarket. Frank saves her, but she runs away, accusing him of being responsible for ruining Santa Cabeza, the hometown she lives. When Frank next encounters Isabela, she attacks him while riding a motorcycle, but he defeats her.

She reveals that the zombies are created by the Americans, not her and Carlito. It is used as their tool of vengeance. Isabela introduces herself to Frank and promises to bring Carlito for interrogation. However, she returns with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. It is revealed that Carlito has done it since he is outraged by the meeting. From that point on, Isabela aids Frank in stopping her brother's plot and helps develop a medicine that stalls his zombification following a bite from one that attacked him on the helipad. This later developed into Zombrex. Her ultimate fate is initially unknown, as she is last seen in the game kicking at zombies after she and Frank defeated Brock Mason.

Dead Rising 2: Case West[]

It is revealed that Isabela survived the events of Dead Rising and is now a researcher working on behalf of Phenotrans under the control of Marian Mallon. She tries her best to help Frank and Chuck Greene, but is captured and has her research destroyed by Harjit Singh before she can get to them.

Dead Rising 3[]

Isabela returns in the third game, set ten years later, where it turns out that the protagonist Nick Ramos was, in fact, one of the orphans in Carlito's plot. She provides as much help as she can and shows how Nick does, in fact, possess the cure to the zombie outbreak inside him, making him the one orphan out of Carlito's group that would be a safeguard. Reunited with Chuck among new allies, Isabela boards the plane constructed by Nick and his crew to escape Los Perdidos before the firebombing commences. Nick defeats General Hemlock and stops the firebombing. Prior to leaving, Isabela mentions that she has to retrieve something.

In the secret ending to the game, achieved by completing Overtime Mode, Isabela watches a recording on her laptop. The recording is of a conversation between her and Mallon that reveals that Isabela was the one who was responsible for the outbreak in Los Perdidos. She knew of the presence of and deliberately triggered the zombie infection so she could root out the cure-bearing orphan (Nick). Isabela openly states that any lives lost in the process would be inconsequential, so long as she goes down in history as a hero for finding the cure — no matter the cost. After viewing the recording, Isabela promptly destroys the laptop and rejoins the others, once the screen turns black, the game uses Samuel's words to describe Isabela as the "devil that grins for the pride".

She is eventually hailed as a hero for creating the vaccine for the outbreak.

Dead Rising 4[]

It's unknown what happened to Isabela Keyes during the events of Dead Rising 4. But her wish of exposing the Pentagon and the U.S government for the massacre of Santa Cabeza came true thanks to Frank West, who finally had real and convincing evidence.

Personality[]

In the first game, Isabela possessed a few traits similar to Carlito Keyes, her brother, she was vengeful, genocidal and remorseless maniac, yet a coward who often intends to avoid direct conflict with consequences for her actions and even goes out to justify herself about how this outbreak is Williamette's people fault she and her brother made the whole nightmare, despite those people are just citizens and have nothing to with Santa Cabeza tragic event.

Yet like her brother, she genuinely cared for her family and had admiration for Santa Cabeza being the most beautiful and peaceful place and her own hometown she deeply mourned for. Once she was defeated, she finally revealed her affability, honor and heroic side to Frank as she decided to calm Carlito, only for her to get shot. Later taken to custidy, she has spoken to Brad about what truly has happened and genuinely had a interest to help Jessie for her infection.

Eventually after first game, she was arrested for her crimes and later freed and set under the orders of Marian Mallon, where she seeks to make up for her crimes and create a cure to stop outbreaks, showing her will at redemption and help out people, seen as she even saves Frank and Chuck from security guards and wants people to know the truth about Phenotrans.

10 years later, Isabela changed herself into way worse individual, she became egotistical, pragmatic and envious villainess who developed arrogant beliefs for others, such as Chuck and Frank got their fame unfairly compared to her, or mocking Marian Mallon for her disability to walk as a way to manipulation, this later leads to psychopathy, given how she makes herself clear not to mind deaths of others as long as she succeeds, even went out to make everyone ignore Hemlock despite clear awareness of his brutality and horrible goals that threats mankind and personally went out to manipulate Annie, which failed. This extension counts her family as she is clearly over their deaths and developed a bit of hatred toward Carlito for causing the outbreak, even if she herself supported his ideas in past.

What remains to her since first game is cowardness and irresponsibility, as she refuses to accept her mistakes but this time places them onto Carlito's back and used her alliance with powerful forces such as Hemlock to set them as villains in order for her to avoid conflicts with possible heroes. Although she still has friendly side to her as she wants to peaceful cooperate with others and greets Chuck as she first sees him.

However, the telling of hers about Santa Cabeza is portrayed sympathetic with her hearing the Special Forces arrival and screams of Santa Cabeza citizens
