Oh look, what clever children! See them study, watch them learn! How I hate those goody-goodies! How they make my stomach turn! I got a little secret, that'll really make 'em cry! It's a nasty kind of magic from a special kind of guy! This book is made to order, but it isn't to be read. When they open up this book, they're sucked inside instead, to the most unpleasant place they've ever seen: The Magic Labyrinth of I.M. Meen! Very scary and confusing, destination of MY CHOOSING! Magic Labyrinth of I.M. Meen! Hahahaha!
~ I.M. Meen in the intro of the game.

Ignatius Mortimer Meen, or I.M. Meen for short, is the titular main antagonist of the 1995 educational computer game I.M. Meen for MS-DOS, and a supporting antagonist in its sequel, Chill Manor.

He was voiced by Peter Berkrot.

Biography[]

I.M. Meen is a wizard with an unrivaled hatred of goody-goody children, who spends all their time reading, studying and learning, and traps them in his Magic Labyrinth with an enchanted book. He sings a song about this during the game's intro, and during gameplay, he occasionally appears to taunt the player. He is defeated at the end of the game by "Writewell's Book of Better Grammar", which the player finds with the help of Gnorris, a gnome who works for Meen, but betrays him and decides to help the children escape.

The player travels across the labyrinth, defeating the monsters and rescuing the children, causing the labyrinth's condition to rapidly deteriorate. They eventually confront I.M. Meen himself and defeat him using Writewell's Book of Better Grammar, which he had stolen and placed in the labyrinth. After completing the final scroll, he swears that he will have his revenge and disappears.

I.M. Meen also appears at the end of Chill Manor, when he rescues the evil Ophelia Chill from the player's clutches, revealing their husband-and-wife relationship. He tells the player that they'll meet again someday before disappearing, followed by Chill shortly afterwards. (Yet, this never came to be)

Personality[]

Lost? Frightened? Confuuuused? Good! Ahahahahahaha!
~ I.M. Meen

I.M. Meen is an arrogant, insufferable braggart who believes he is the "most powerful magician in the world", even though he gets defeated by kids armed with only good grammar. Meen's arrogance is further illustrated in his terribly written self-insert stories, wherein he portrays himself as an amazing hero loved by everyone, yet it causes people to get sick and hurt, making him hypocritical.

He is sadistic, self-absorbed and (as his name suggests) mean. He is constantly taunting the player characters throughout the game and enjoys seeing them suffer, but gets surprised and annoyed when they resist. When he is victorious, he loves to rub his victory in. However, he is also a dramatic but easily angered sore loser, as he breaks down in tears when the player destroys (in his case, ruined) his beautiful Magic Labyrinth, calling him and/or her "wretched child", and furiously walks up to the camera face straight and cruelly and heartlessly yells and spits saying "Now, you're going to pay!", confirming he does not accept and take the deterioration of his labyrinth, along with Gnorris betraying him, very lightly, and swears revenge when he is defeated and outsmarted for good.

He also cares very deeply for Ophelia, confirming that they're married.

Trivia[]

  • The game and its sequel, Chill Manor, are both created by Animation Magic, the same company that made the infamous but also famous Legend of Zelda CD-i and Hotel Mario games. As such, both Ignatius Mortimer Meen and Ophelia Chill have been used as characters in countless YouTube Poop videos. They are usually depicted very negatively in YouTube Poops as well, and are very often portrayed as pedophiles and child-harming molesters and rapists that are cruel and heartless to all species, including animals and humans, bully Gnorris and often pick fights with characters that are actually stronger and smarter than them, which reveals the reasons of their many defeats, imprisonments and punishments. However, there are also times that they are forced to team up with Gnorris and the other YTP heroes to defeat, overthrow and punish far more dangerous and nasty villains that are far more and way more irredeemable and insufferable than them AND there are times that they are friendly and benevolent, and not perverted sexual harassers and sex offenders, and actually treat Gnorris and the other characters like family rather than hurtfully mistreating them, as both Meen and Chill even have their own standards as well.
  • His name is a pun on "I am mean".
  • I.M. Meen's quote "Lost? Frightened? Confused?" was referenced in Deltarune by Rouxls Kaard, a minor antagonist in Chapter 1.
