Henry Gupta is the quaternary antagonist of the 1997 James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies. Employed by Elliot Carver, he uses his technological knowledge to help cover the latter's schemes.
He was played by Ricky Jay.
History
Known as an American techno terrorist, Carver sends Gupta to a terrorist arms bazaar to buy an American military GPS encoder. Using the encoder, he beacons the GPS signal sending the British frigate HMS Devonshire off-course into South China Sea. There, Carver's stealth ship sends a sea drill into the Devonshire and steals one of the ship's missiles. Then Carver's goons shoot down a chinese J-7 fighter and the survivors of the Devonshire using Chinese weapons, causing tension between the two nations, which each believing the other attacked them.
When looking through the sound files of Carver's satelite launch event, Gupta hears Bond talking to Carver's wife. When he shows Carver the footage, Carver decides to have his wife killed by Dr. Kaufman.
While infiltrating Carver's agency at Hamburg, Bond sneaks into Gupta's bureau and opens his safe, finding the GPS encoder inside and returning it back to the American military.
Close to the end of the movie, 007 sneaks aboard Carver's stealth ship and takes Gupta hostage. Carver asks if the missile is ready to be fired. Gupta confirms this, which leads Carver to shoot Gupta to his death, declaring that he has outlived his usefulness to him.
