And Heather Chandler the Almighty, she is a mythic bitch.
~ Veronica about Heather Chandler in the musical.

Heather Chandler is the overarching antagonist of the 1988 black comedy film Heathers and the musical of the same name. She is one of the three titular characters of the same name as well as the the clique's former leader.

She was portrayed by the late Kim Walker in the film, Jessica Keenan Wynn and Lucy Maunder in the musical and Melanie Field in the TV series.

Biography[]

Heather Chandler is the leader of a popular clique at Westerburg High School in Sherwood, Ohio which consists of her and two other beautiful and wealthy girls who share her name: Heather Duke and Heather McNamara. At some point she recruited another member named Veronica Sawyer initially for the latter's forgery skills, and would use Veronica's backyard for croquet games with the other Heathers. Within her clique, Heather would constantly bully Heather Duke and saw Veronica as a friend, though her relationship with McNamara is not known.

During lunch, she talks Veronica into forging a note to trick Martha Dunnstock into thinking it was from Ram Sweeney. She and Veronica then do a lunch poll by asking the students a crazy hypothetical question as a way to ”bush up on their conversation skills” when they go to a party at Remington University tonight. It is through this polling that Veronica meets Jason "J.D." Dean, and Heather moves Veronica along when she lingered around J.D. for too long. Heather is later seen talking about the gun prank J.D. pulled on Ram Sweeney & Kurt Kelly with the other Heathers and Veronica over croquet, and later leaves with Veronica to attend the Remington party. Veronica ends up humiliating Heather which leads to the latter in promising to ruin Veronica's reputation at school.

The next morning, she is greeted by Veronica and J.D., who gives her a hangover drink laced with drain cleaner which ends up killing her. Veronica and J.D. forges a suicide note in Heather's handwriting to make it look like she killed herself.

Heathers TV Series[]

Heather Chandler (TV Series)

Heather Chandler appears in the 2018 Paramount Network reboot of the 1988 movie. Her character in the TV series differentiates very much from her original as well as her musical counterpart. Instead of being a skinny, rich, popular "mean girl" who bullies people for being different, she is in the TV series a fat "social justice warrior" who still bullies people, but for different reasons. Her role of being the leader of the most popular clique is still present, but the major thing about her, that she dies because of J.D. and Veronica, changes. In this adaptation Heather Chandler doesn't die. She in fact is the only one that survives.

In the TV series she was portrayed by Melanie Field.

Personality[]

Heather Chandler was described as a “Mythic Bitch” by Veronica in the Musical. In all versions, Heather is the ruthless leader of the Heathers. She will do whatever it takes to keep her status as Queen Bee maintained and not afraid to go up against anybody. Heather is cruel, selfish, manipulative, rude, callous and very mean. She bullies students less conventionally attractive, like Martha Dunnstock. She also belittles the people in her Clique, most notably Heather Duke. She frequently mocks Duke’s Bulimia and it’s shown that the pair secretly despise each other.

However, Heather Chandler also seems to have low self-esteem. She has a Boyfriend who attends College and coerces her into things she doesn’t want to do, like Drugs and oral sex. After performing oral sex on him, she drinks water and spits it out at the Mirror she is looking at, almost as if she’s disgusted by her face.

Appearance[]

Heather Chandler is quite tall, being taller than Veronica and Duke but slightly shorter than McNamara. Heather has shoulder-length, curly Dirty Blonde hair which she often wears tide back with a Red scrunchie. She has pale Green eyes. Heather’s signature colour was red to symbolise her power.

Quotes[]
