The nation of Glandelinia is the main antagonistic faction in Henry Darger's 15,145 page work, The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion, often shortened to just "The Realms of the Unreal".

They are a militantly atheist nation seeking to conquer the Christian nations of Abbieannia and Angelinia. Glandelinia is known for kidnapping children to work as slaves for them, eventually leading to the first Child Slave Rebellion which caused the Glandeco-Angelinian War. Within the Realms of the Unreal, the Glandelinians are reviled for torturing and even killing children.

The child slave rebels were led by the Vivian sisters, the seven princesses of the kingdom of Abbieannia. The first Child Slave Rebellion was led by Annie Aronburg, but she was assassinated by the Glandelinians, which was one of the causes of the Glandeco-Angelinian War.

Though the Glandelinians had many victories early on, late into the war the Angelinians had managed to achieve a steady string of victories against the Glandelinians. The coming of the Angelinian forces caused several Glandelinian generals to consider the possibility of surrender, but Glandelinia continued to fight.

There exist two endings to The Realms of the Unreal, one where the leader of the Glandelinians, General John Manley, is captured by the forces of Abbieannian general Jack Evans, and the Angelinians win the war, and another where Manley's forces defeat Jack Evans' and the Glandelinians are able to invade Angelinia and Abbieannia and emerge victorious.

Trivia[]

  • Glandelinia is inspired off of the Confederated States of America, the rogue state which fought the Union in the American Civil War to preserve slavery. The uniforms of the Glandelinian soldiers are based off of Confederate soldier uniforms paired with "college professor" hats.
