Evil King (ジャアクキング Jyāku Kingu) , also known as Dark King in the English dub, is the main antagonist of the anime series Futari wa Pretty Cure. He is the ruler of the Dusk Zone. Although defeated by Pretty Cure with help from the Queen of Light, he is later revived by the Seeds of Darkness. He returns as the overarching antagonist of the second season, Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, where he is revived for a second time towards the end and merges with Baldez, but dies for good alongside the latter when Hikari Kujou merges with the Queen. He is also Pretty Cure's archenemy.
He was voiced by Kenichi Ono in Japanese and Tom Edwards in English.
Personality[]
Dark King is a malevolent being thriving on destruction and seeking eternal life, since the Power of Destruction is killing him. In order to accomplish his goal, he destroys the Garden of Light and steals five Prism Stones. He is also impatient for the last two and hates failure from his underlings. Darj King is also extremely petty, as shown when he kills Ilkubo, who is beating the Pretty Cure down, just because he fears that the latter can damage the Prism Stones. Seeing the Power of Creation as rightfully his, he consumes Seeds of Darkness without mercy for betraying him.
History[]
The Destruction of the Garden of Light[]
Dark King is the ruler of the Dusk Zone and possesses the Power of Destruction. When it begins to kill him, he decides to steal the Prism Stones and get the Power of Creation to attain immortality. However, he only successfully gets five Prism Stones, as the rest two are sent to Earth and protected by Mepple and Mipple. Because of this, he sends his henchmen Ilkubo, Poisony, Kiriya, Gekidrago and Pisard to take them. To ensure the stones' safety, Mepple and Mipple grant Nagisa Misumi and Honoka Yukishiro power to transform into Cure Black and Cure White so they can battle the Dark Zone's forces.
Stealing the remaining Prism Stones[]
After Pisard's first failure, Dark King orders him to steal the two Prism Stones and threatens him several times. After Pisard's defeat and the loss of Prism Stones, Dark King sends Gekidrago, Poisony and Kiriya respectively to replace him, but they all fail and result in the loss of four stones. However, while Ilkubo loses the last stone as well, he manages to steal all the seven, only to be killed by Dark King while fighting the Cures because Dark King fears that Ilkubo can damage the stones. Angered, the Cures fight against him, with the Queen of Light helping them.
Resurrection and the Final Fight[]
Right afterwards, Dark King gives birth to the Seeds of Darkness and sends to Earth. They successfully resurrect him, but he still needs the Prism Stones. The Seeds manage to steal them, but betray Dark King and use them for themselves, fuse to form the Giant and fight both Dark King and the Pretty Cures. Eventually, Dark King consumes the Seeds and gains the Power of Creation, so he enters the Garden of Rainbows and attempts to destroy the world, but the Cures fight him back. When they are failing, Pollun transfers the Power of Light to them, allowing them to overcome Dark King and kill him with Rainbow Storm.
Second Resurrection and Ultimate Death[]
After his death, Dark King reincarnates as Hikaru, who possesses his powers but is unaware of his origins and benevolent. Much later, Baldez manages to revive Dark King, who however returns in a feral state and can only roars. Baldez then absorbs Dark King's powers into himself and becomes the latter's successor. After Hikari merges with the Queen, she is granted the Extreme Luminario Max and destroys Baldez alongside Dark King, ending his chaos once and for all.
