Victor Vance is the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and a minor character in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. He is the older brother of Lance Vance and Pete Vance.

In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, he was voiced by Dorian Missick, who also played Annie's Fake Father in the 2014 movie adaptation of Annie. In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, he was voiced by Armando Riesco, who also played Curtis in White Fang.

Biography[]

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories[]

Victor was a military corporal stationed in Fort Baxter in Vice City to pay for Pete's medical bills. He was discharged from duty when drugs were found in his barracks and brought a prostitute which were ordered by his superior Sergeant Martinez. Realizing that he has been tricked, Victor does various jobs and becomes a rising drug lord. On the part of Phil Cassidy he will meet the abuser Marty Jay Williams who takes him to take care of business, then Vic will visit Louise in her new home, there they have a very good relationship.

Marty finds out about their relationship and decides to take prostitute to his wife but he is intercepted by Vic and consequently murdered, then Vic takes the leadership of his new gang and then meets Umberto Robina, then Lance Vance arrives at the airport where Vic is not happy to see him, while driving Vic is ambushed by the Cholos and he will have to shoot them while his brother drives, then he meets Bryan Forbes who has a sophisticated plan to earn money, Lance discovers that he is a member of the DEA and threatens him with a gun, he runs away but Vic catches him and they kidnap him.

In search for information, Lance interrogates Forbes who gives them very risky tips, but Forbes manages to escape and is killed by Vic. Then Lance tells him that the drug shipment belongs to Martinez and, with armed men They manage to steal the drug shipment traveling to the other side of Vice City, Vic finds out that the drug belongs to the Mendez brothers and yells at Lance.

He also met a woman named Louise and falls in love with her but she was killed by the Mendez brothers when they tried to take over Vance's empire. Victor avenges Louise by destroying the Mendez Building in the Downtown area of Vice City and killing Diego Mendez and Jerry Martinez.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City[]

Two years later, he engages in a drug deal with Tommy Vercetti. All was well until Ricardo Diaz's men ambushed them and killed Victor. Lance manages to avenge Vic by killing Diaz with the help of Tommy.

Personality[]

Victor had a stoic and serious personality, considering his job as just a chore. He saw no pleasure in killing, let alone committing crimes. Still, he could be playful with his friends.

Vance had a complicated moral code regarding his criminal activities. He had no problem killing drug dealers, murderers and psychopaths, however, he didn't like to touch drugs and cocaine. He thought that drugs were too dangerous and could ruin many lives. Still, on his way to the top of Vice City, Victor was forced by his brother and associates to become a drug dealer. Furthermore, Victor also became a crime boss after taking over Marty's empire, committing numerous crimes and atrocities to raise money. This only proved his contradictory and hypocritical personality, an aspect brought out by Martinez when they both faced each other on top of a building.

When involved in shootouts, Victor tried to maintain a cold and tough personality. He constantly cursed and insulted his enemies. However, when around those he loved, like Louise Cassidy, Victor was sweet and kind.

But after spending so much time with Vice City's criminals and socialites, Victor had become somewhat cynical and temperamental. This made him start to expect the worst of people, which drove him away from Louise. Furthermore, Victor constantly dealt with his brother Lance's stupid and impulsive actions, which caused him to become paranoid.

He was capable of absurd violent feats when those he loved were hurt. For example, when Louise was killed, Victor went on a revenge crusade against Diego Mendez, even though his empire had already been destroyed. In the end, Victor admitted to himself that he wasn't a hero, much less a good man, but an asshole who helped other people worse than him get rich.

He cared nothing for status or power, giving up the life of crime for a few years after his confrontation with Mendez ended. This would later prove to be his undoing, as the man he helped gain power, Diaz, ended up being responsible for his death.

Trivia[]

  • Victor Vance is the only 3D Universe protagonist to canonically die. Overall, Victor is the first ever Grand Theft Auto protagonist to be killed. He was followed by Johnny Klebitz, the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned who gets killed in Grand Theft Auto V by another protagonist, namely Trevor Philips.
  • Victor Vance is also the only 3D Universe protagonist to have never been to or visited Liberty City.
  • Victor Vance is the shortest GTA protagonist in the 3D universe, standing at 5'7".
  • GTA fans argued about the person who was killed in the deal at the beginning of GTA: Vice City was Pete Vance. Rockstar Games ultimately confirmed that it was indeed Vic.
  • Strangely enough, Victor's voices are radically different in both Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Victor had an African-American voice in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories whereas in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, he has a heavy, Mexican/Colombian accent. It is possible to change accents given a few months, though it's unknown in-universe as to why Victor changed so much physically in only two years.
    • Furthermore, he seems to appear older and his reflexes were considerably slower than back in 1984 where he was far more able-bodied and combat ready, which further contradicts these two events.
