Galamoth is an incredibly powerful being and a recurring antagonist in the Castlevania series, based on the non-canon spin-off games Kid Dracula. Galamoth has since then been referred in some games, without appearing directly again. He wants to kill Count Dracula and take his place as the King of the Night.

He is also the overarching antagonist of Castlevania Judgement.

Overview[]

Who and what exactly Galamoth is is never specified. He is described as a magical being, though whether he is a demon, a dragon, an alien or a mix of all is not known.

He seems to rule from another time period, dimension or outer space, but once again, which one exactly is never specified. He appears as a building-sized, draconic monster, and is a rival of Count Dracula himself.

Powers and Abilities[]

Galamoth is more or less on par with Count Dracula himself. His exact level of power is never specified, but considering that he always tries to avoid a direct confrontation (taking profit of his absence in Kid Dracula or staging an assassination in Judgment), he is bound to be marginally weaker.

Despite this, he is powerful enough to confront Dracula's son Alucard, himself able to match his father in battle and to decimate his army on his own. His humongous size and bulk makes him exceptionally strong, albeit quite slow, but he can fly quite fast and move with very good reflexes.

He wields tremendous Dark Powers, and masters a wide array of dangerous lightning attacks. In Kid Dracula, he can use his powers himself, though in Symphony of the Night he channels them through a staff. In the latter, his double also wields a sabre able to fire powerful laser blasts.

Given his soul's ability to resist Time Stops and his command of the Time Reaper, he is bound to control Time to some extent. Being from another space or dimension, he might control Space as well. However, this is never specified.

Personality[]

Little to nothing is known about Galamoth's personality, aside from his ambition to replace Dracula, coveting power over the entire Netherworld (also known as the Abyss or Hell itself). He is ready for the worst to enact his goal. And considering that the Time Watcher Aeon wants to preserve Dracula as the King of the Night, it can be guessed that Galamoth is even more evil and that is rule would be even worse.

In the Kid Dracula games, Galamoth is seen as a cruel tyrant, very arrogant and taunting, though he resents Alucard for defeating him and swears revenge. In his only appearance in a mainstream game, he never talks and attacks Alucard outright, hinting a non-nonsense enemy who goes straight for the kill. However, this prevents him from disclosing his motives.

Biography[]

Kid Dracula[]

Galamoth (Kid Dracula)

Galamoth in the Kid Dracula games.

In these games, Galamoth is called King Garamoth and goes by the title of the Space Emperor, hinting an extraterrestrial origin. He serves as the main villain and final boss. After an accidental slumber of ten thousand years, Dracula's son Kid Dracula (hinted to be Alucard, Dracula's son in the mainstream games) discovers that his father's place has been taken over by Galamoth, whom he resolves to defeat.

Galamoth appears as a huge, winged, humanoid dragon, depicted in a cartoon like way just like every other character. Kid Dracula first has to defeat Mecha Galamoth, a robotic double of the villain who fights with a lightsabre-like staff, with which he strikes and fires enormous energy beams.

The real Galamoth flies all over the screen and mostly attacks by hurling lightning bolts towards the ground. He is impervious to all of Kid Dracula's attacks, and can only be harmed when he open its maws to breathe a fireball, by shooting inside his mouth. Kid Dracula must as such remains constantly under him, which also enables him to avoid the two lightning bolts he fires towards the ground.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night[]

Galamoth

Galamoth's sprite in the game.

Galamoth is fought as a Super-Boss of some sorts in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. He is far and away the mightiest and most formidable boss in the game, but he has little to no importance in the plot and the game can be finished without challenging him.

The entry about him states that he plans to rule the Netherworld and it is somehow implied that he is attempting to invade the Castlevania in order to take Dracula's throne.

He is found late in the game in the Floating Catacombs, an area of the Reverse Castle which can be accessed after defeating Death and is filled with Frozen Halves. (Transexual ice-mages at Galamoth's command who can conjure a dangerous rain of giant blocks of ice.)

Galamoth is horribly hard to defeat. He is so big that he does not entirely fit onscreen and he mostly attacks with a magical staff that enables him to cast lightning spells. He is at level 50 and has an insane amount of life-points. It is highly advised to have Alucard at a similar, if not higher, level than his own and to equip him with Lightning-resisting armour, as well as lots of potions, healing items and Resist Thunder items to stand a chance against him.

He is very, very resilient and uses devastating attacks: he kicks forwards or backwards whenever Alucard comes too close to him, he smashes his staff on the ground to crush Alucard, he raises his staff over Alucard and conjures a long-lasting onslaught of lightning, he raises his staff and conjures a rain of giant spheres of darkness and lightning, and he fires a large electric arc in front of him whenever Alucard stands on the platforms at eye-level. The ability to turn into mist for as long as necessary is very useful to dodge his attacks.

Alucard must strike Galamoth in the head to deal bigger damage, but considering how tall the demon is, this is easier said than done. Alucard must jump on the platforms on the room's walls and unleash as many long-range attacks and special projectiles as he can, while dodging the demon's electric arcs, but after a short while, Galamoth steps backwards and exits the screen out of reach. It must be noted that punching Galamoth's face stuns him for a short while, meaning that he can be defeated by spamming punches over and over so that he cannot exit the screen. However, punches deal very little damage, meaning that defeating this way is horribly long, and unlikely to last the entire fight.

Moonlight Rhapsody[]

Galamoth (Moonlight Bestiary)

Galamoth in Moonlight Rhapsody

Galamoth returns as a boss in this IOS game, only available in Japan in demo. He fights exactly the same as in Symphony of the Night, with the same attacks. But while his attacks remain very powerful, he is considerably easier to defeat, being made much smaller, about twice as tall as the heroes.

This makes not only his attacks much easier to dodge, but also make him easier to attack and pummel with powerful attacks and combos. And he can even be knocked out and trashed for increased damage.

Castlevania Judgment[]

Time Reaper

The Time Reaper

Galamoth acts as the overarching antagonist in the fighting game Castlevania Judgment. He is never mentioned but he is heavily implied (and later confirmed) to be the master of the Time Reaper, the game's final boss who was sent from ten thousand years in the future to kill Dracula by causing a Time Crash, so that his lord could become the King of the Night.

Galamoth's name can be heard in the Time Reaper's screams of defeat, and ten thousand years in the future being an obvious nod to the Kid Dracula games. However, the Time Reaper is sealed in a time rift by the mysterious Time Master Aeon and destroyed by the game's characters before he can enact Galamoth's plans.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow[]

This game acts that Dracula settled his score with Galamoth and killed him, some times before being slain once and for all in 1999. Indeed, Galamoth's soul can be found by the main hero Soma Cruz (who is Dracula's reincarnation who can absorb the souls and powers of fallen monsters). The soul is found by breaking one of the Castlevania's candles, that have been stated to contain the souls of Dracula's victims.

Galamoth's soul is mandatory to win the game, as the power it grants is the only way to bypass the time-freezing abilities of the Chronomage monster.
