Tae-ju (태주) is the main antagonist of the 2009 Korean horror film Thirst.
She is a lonely young woman trapped in a loveless marriage, until she falls in love with her husband's friend: a priest-turned-vampire named Sang-hyun.
After her and Sang-hyun execute a plot to murder Tae-ju's husband, she herself is turned into a vampire by Sang-hyun. She quickly shows herself to be a remorseless monster, killing indiscriminately in order to feed, and enjoying it.
Tae-ju is portrayed by Kim Ok-vin.
Biography[]
Tae-ju is an orphan girl who is married to her cousin, Kang-woo, under whom she apparently suffered much abuse. She falls in love with Kang-woo's childhood friend, Sang-hyun, a fallen priest-turned-vampire, and the two of them begin an affair.
After learning of Sang-hyun's vampirism, Tae-ju is afraid, but quickly overcomes it and plots with Sang-hyun to murder Kang-woo. During a boating trip, Sang-hyun pulls Kang-woo into the lake, where he drowns.
After being haunted by her late husband's ghost, she eventually confesses to Sang-hyun that Kang-woo didn't abuse her, much to Sang-hyun's rage. Feeling remorse for her actions, Tae-ju pleads to be killed. Sang-hyun does so, but afterwards, he resurrects her as a vampire.
When Kang-woo's mother, Mrs. Ra, reveals the truth to her son's friends of how he really died, Tae-ju and Sang-hyun are forced to escape. Before doing so, Tae-ju murders two of Kang-woo's friends, while Sang-hyun fakes the death of the third.
The couple kidnaps Mrs. Ra and places her in the backseat of their car, driving away under the cover of night. Upon waking up, Tae-ju finds that Sang-hyun has driven them to a seaside cliff, just before sunrise. She tries to escape but her every attempt is foiled by Sang-hyun. Tae-ju eventually accepts her fate, and she and Sang-hyun are both turned to ash while Mrs. Ra watches.
