Aw, crud!
~ Hun's repeated line.
Why do you keep doing that?! Who are you talking to? THERE'S NO ONE THERE!
~ Mutated Hun to Raphael from the 86's.
Whose face you want rearranged?
~ When selecting Hun in Vs. Mode of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 video game.

Hun is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Karai) of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series. He is the leader of the Purple Dragons, the archenemy of Casey Jones and the right-hand of the Utrom Shredder, before he was later replaced with Karai following her return. He also appears in the Mirage comics and in IDW Comics in the latter as Arnold Jones' Casey's father.

Personality[]

Hun is above all a ruthless and heartless individual. He is extremely cruel and mean. He has a deep hatred for what he calls "monsters", (i.e. turtles), and he openly hates Karai, whom he has repeatedly attempted to kill. He is not afraid to cause pain; Hun is directly responsible for many of Baxter Stockman's "punishments" as he slowly transforms into a cyborg. Implying that Hun enjoys this torture, although the exact reason is unclear (hate for Stockman, desire to please his master, simple masochism, or a combination of the above) . Hun also seems to believe in authoritarian ways of working; he tends to lash out when his gang members when they disobey or ignore him, but in turn he obeys his superiors without question. He is very loyal to his master, Shredder, and reacts with deep sadness when he lets him down or fails him.

In addition, most of Hun's personality is like that of a "Big Man", as opposed to the "muscle". Hun is a large man, with a boxy appearance and a small head to accentuate his muscles. He surpasses most other characters in the series, and because of this, he is easily recognizable in any scene. He hits hard, takes hits, and is sometimes called big (especially by Raphaël). Heavy weapons such as rocket launchers are usually in his hands, he often uses strength-based grappling methods (like bear hugs) and he frequently performs heavy lifting, for whether it's strength or physicality (moving rubble, shoveling coal, etc.). or metaphorically (acting as a battlefield commander, carrying out Shredder's plans, etc.). Finally, he is the strongman of a street gang (later a criminal organization), who tends to lead from the front, cause massive explosions, and survive falls from great heights that would kill a normal person.

Subsequent episodes have highlighted his personality. He is someone who likes to destroy, modified vehicles, and the like. Despite his emphasis on strength, he is surprisingly cunning and versatile, using a combination of ninjitsu and street fighting to challenge the Ninja Turtles in the early episodes. He is also something of a "hardcore gamer" (or at least in the future), being more malicious than outright destructive.

History[]

Hun and Raph 1

Hun interrogating Raphael.

Hun started his criminal career in his teen years and became the leader of Purple Dragons. He and a group of Purple Dragons burned down the store of Arnold Jones (Casey's father) after he refused to pay the Purple Dragons protection money. Hun told Casey to tell his father to pay up next time or else. However, Arnold went to the police which made Hun kill him. Sometime later, the Shredder found him and took him as a protege after he realized his potential. In the beginning of the 2003 series, he left his operations to Johnny and Dragon Face while he serves the Shredder. In "Attack of the Mousers", he was sent by the Shredder to bring Dr. Baxter Stockman to the Foot HQ and gave him his punishment by drilling out his left eye. He delivered the Sword of Tengu to Saki in "Darkness on the Edge of Town" and punished two Foot technicians for losing it to the TMNT. Hun was later ordered by the Shredder to team up with Stockman to find info on the Turtles in "The Way of Invisibility". Hun let Raph escape so the Foot Tech ninjas follow him to the other Turtles. The TMNT defeated the ninjas and Baxter Stockman blamed Hun for the failure of the mission. However, Stockman was taken away by two Foot Tech Ninjas. Hun reported to Oroku Saki that based on his interrogation, the Turtles don't know anything about Saki's enemies. Oroku Saki decides that the Turtles may be useful to him when the time is right.

First Battle with the Turtles[]

In "Fallen Angel", he hosts the Purple Dragons cage match. He knocked out Casey Jones and took him hostage, intending to let the winner of the cage match be the one who gets to kill him for all the trouble he caused for the Dragons. Later he fought the Turtles. In their first fight against him, he actually overpowered them, they were only saved by Casey Jones. Casey later defeats Hun and battle and almost kills him for what he did to his father before Angel stops him. When asked why, Angel states that killing Hun would be a big mistake as it would make Casey no better than him.

He later returns in the first part of "The Shredder Strikes." Here, he fights the Turtles all at once and does considerably well despite being out numbered. He loses after Leo, out of anger after seeing Hun about to kill Raph, kicks him off the roof they were fighting on. Hun is alive, but is out of commission during the second part.

Mirage Comics[]

Hun appeared in a Mirage issue special where he fought Casey as the leader of the Purple Dragons and the murderer of his father.

IDW Comics[]

Hun appears in the IDW version where he was the founder and leader of the Purple dragons but with his original identity of being Arnold Jones as Casey's father. He fell in love with Caset's mother who sadly died from labor and later became a villain again also drinking alcohol and abusing Casey in a fit of rage.

Quotes[]

You tell your old man, punk, next time pay up or else.
~ Young Hun to Young Casey after the former burns down the store owned by Casey's father.
Hun: Trouble, Dr. Stockman?
Stockman: Trouble? No, no, everything is proceeding exactly as I planned. (Stockman is grabbed by Hun and lifted off his feet)
Hun: Perhaps you’d like to explain this plan to the Master.
Stockman: Ngh, let me go you brainless, musclebound idiot. Let me go. Let me go.
~ Hun as he sees Stockman escaping his lab before it is destroyed and takes him by force to the Shredder.
Hun: This is some nice steel. How about telling me who gave them to you?
Raph: Yo momma. (Hun throws both sai at each side of his head)
Hun: I'm sorry. I didn't quite hear you. You know, I get a little clumsy when people don't answer my questions.
Raph: Hey, nice tat. Purple Dragon or just some big ugly chicken?
Hun: Let's start with "Just exactly what kind of freak are you anyway?"
~ Hun as he interrogates a captive Raphael.
Laugh now, sucka, 'cause tonight the Dragons are having a little smackdown contest. And you're the prize. Whoever wins gets to wax your sorry butt once and for all.
~ Hun to Casey.
I’ve been looking forward to this rematch.
~ Hun to the Ninja Turtles.
Dragon Face: Hun? We thought you weren’t coming back. Look, things have changed around here. I’m in charge now. You can’t come waltzing in here like you own the place or something.
Hun: Oh, but I do own the place, Dragon Face. Every inch of turf you rule, every kickback you’ve collected, every little crumb you’ve ever been handed, you owe to me, and you owe it to the Shredder. And it is in his memory that I vow... to lead the Purple Dragons to the top of the food chain. We are going to rule this city. Any other objections? (None of the Puple Dragons respond.) I didn’t think so.
~ Hun to Dragon Face before the former speaks to the rest of the Purple Dragons and vows their gang will win the gang war in New York City.
So the Shredder’s little pet doesn’t have the guts to do her job. Move over, girly. Watch how things get done New York style.
~ Hun to Karai before the former attempts to kill Leonardo.
This is the dawning of a new age. I have seen the past and I have touched the future. I have learned from my late great master that preparation is everything. And I am prepared. Our destiny will soon be at hand. Nothing will stop us now. Nothing!
~ Hun
With every heist, we grow stronger, more powerful! Gone are the days when the Purple Dragons were simply a two-bit street gang! With these weapons and my plans, we will become an organized crime syndicate! A true power in the underworld! All of us, together!
~ Hun's speech to the Purple Dragons.
That's right! I'm a hardcore gamer, Have been for YEARS! Tell anyone and I'll rip your tongue out!
~ Hun after one of his goons found out he's an gamer.
