Nagaina

Nagaina battling Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.

Nagaina is a female black cobra and is one the two main antagonists (alongside her husband Nag) of Rudyard Kipling's story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and the 1975 Chuck Jones animated short based off it.

In the short, she was voiced by the late June Foray, who also voiced Natasha Fatale in The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show, Witch Hazel in Looney Tunes (as well as her Disney version), Lucifer in the original animated film adaptation of Cinderella, Wheezy in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Sour Kangaroo in the 1970 animated version of Horton Hears a Who!, Queen Bumble in My Little Pony, and Magica De Spell and Ma Beagle in the original DuckTales.

Biography[]

Nagaina is the wife of Nag and an enemy of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the mongoose. Nag and Nagaina lived in a garden alone until a British family moved in an built a bungalow. They despised the family for taking over their territory and sought to kill them. They were often at odds with Rikki-Tikki, the family's pet.

After Nag was killed by Rikki-Tikki, Nagaina swore revenge on the humans, believing the father and his gun were the cause of her husband's death. While the family was having tea outside, Nagaina approached them, threatening to strike Teddy if they make any movement. Meanwhile, while Darzee's wife distracted Nagaina, Rikki-Tikki enters the cobras' nest and crushes their eggs except for one.

Before Nagaina could bite the son Teddy, Rikki-Tikki showed up with the last egg, threatening to smash it if she attacked the family. Nagaina stole her egg back and retreated into a rat hole where she and Nag once lived, but Rikki-Tikki chased her down and killed her and her remaining child there.
