Mr. Grimm is a reoccurring anti-heroic protagonist in the Twisted Metal video game series. Originally, he was a skeletal, undead motorcyclist that fed off the souls of the dead. In Twisted Metal: Black, they altered his character to make him a mortal veteran who became a cannibalistic murderer due the PTSD he had due to his experiences. In the 2012 game, they once again reinvented Mr. Grim in the form of Daniel Grimm, the son of a stunt-bicyclist that turned to evil when his dad died.
Biography[]
Twisted Metal[]

Mr. Grimm was once a humanoid skeletal entity that fed on the souls of the dead and dying. He had made it his goal to claim every soul he'd come across. At some point, he came across Calypso. Rather than immediately take his soul, Mr. Grimm made a deal with Calypso that would stop him from harvesting his soul. However, sometime later, Mr. Grimm would decide to break the deal and harvest Calypso's soul. Thus, he entered into the Twisted Metal tournament.
In Mr. Grimm's ending, Calypso welcomed Grimm to his lair, explaining that he could have any prize he chose, but Grimm stated that he wanted Calypso's soul. Calypso protested that it wasn't his time yet and complained that they had a deal, but Grimm was defiant and uncaring. He chained Calypso to the back of his motorcycle before riding off with him into the night, Calypso screaming as he did this.
Twisted Metal 2[]
Mr. Grimm would later return to the Twisted Metal competition, a year later. This was because he had grown addicted to harvesting and consuming souls. This addiction would leave him frustrated due to people not dying fast enough. He decided to join the Twisted Metal competition so he could wish for enough dead people to last him an eternity.
In his ending, Grimm explained his predicament and wish to Calypso. Afterwards, Calypso agreed to Grimm's demands. Calypso used his powers to turn the world into a bloody battleground with humans killing each other like crazy. Due to the constant warfare and death, the souls came flooding in and Grimm was happy. Soon, however, the human race had died out, leaving him without any souls to feed on. Mr. Grimm would then begin to suffer from severe withdrawal.
Twisted Metal 3[]
*Twisted Metal 3 & Twisted Metal 4 are confirmed to be non-canon and a separate timeline from the canon events, as such several events retcon earlier and later ones. Mr. Grimm later returned to compete in Twisted Metal, now having had his fill of mortal souls. Now he wanted something bigger. He wanted the darkest and most powerful soul of all. That of Calypso's.

In his ending, Grimm demanded that Calypso give him his prize. That being Calypso's soul, of course. But with his demented sense of humor, Calypso shrunk Mr. Grimm down to a tiny size before stepping on him with the sole of his shoe.
Twisted Metal 4[]
Mr. Grimm returned to Twisted Metal, which was now being ran by Sweet Tooth and his gang of homicidal clowns, now as a pirate, Captain Grimm. Grimm came to the tournament with hopes of killing Sweet Tooth and taking his soul of a desire for revenge.
In his ending, Grimm demanded a sword fight with Sweet Tooth and the soul of the first one struck dead. However, in the fight, Sweet Tooth cheated him by killing his parrot. Leaving Grimm with a dead bird at the whims of Sweet Tooth's mercy.
Twisted Metal: Black[]
*Twisted Metal: Black is confirmed to take place inside Sweet Tooth's depraved mind. This means that while events in Twisted Metal: Black could have happened, they definitely twisted or altered in some way, due to Sweet Tooth's insanity.

What seems to be a new version of Mr. Grimm appears in Twisted Metal: Black. This character is actually a mortal man, albeit an insane one. He was once a soldier in Vietnam, who, after a terrible slipup got him and his best friend captured by a Vietnamese troop, was left to starve to death, alongside his friend in a deep pit. Eventually, his friend seemingly dies (although it is possible that he is an unreliable narrator and actually killed him) and he eats his remains. He then carves a helmet out of his skull. Afterwards, he escapes free and kills several people before being captured and placed in a mental asylum. After thirty years of mental torment, he is offered a chance to get his revenge on the man responsible for all his misfortune. Calypso approaches him offering him a chance to meet the man face to face. An offer Grimm can't refuse.
In Grimm's ending, he meets with Calypso who has the man tied up on a chair. Grimm looks the man dead in the eye. After many years, he had gained somewhat of a craving for human flesh (implying that he may have killed and eaten someone else whilst incarcerated). As the screen fades to black, Mr. Grimm rips apart the man and eats the skin off his bones. After this, he rides off into the night, satisfied.
Twisted Metal: Small Brawl[]
*Twisted Metal: Small Brawl is dubiously canon, and it is also possible that the Mr. Grimm shown here is a different person. However, this is unconfirmed.

Mr. Grimm was actually a young, troubled boy with a passion for Halloween. He entered Billy Calypso's RC car tournament for a chance to access the portal to Halloween Land, the place of his dreams.
In his ending, Calypso shows Grimm to the portal. An ecstatic Grimm runs inside with listening to Calypso's advice. Billy slams the door to portal shut and tips it over (implying that it was a fake).
Twisted Metal Head-On[]

When the original Mr. Grimm died, he became the Grimm reaper. He performed his duties of death well for countless years. However, at some point he decided that rather than take a soul to the afterlife, it'd be a better idea to devour it and absorb its power. Grimm was instantly hooked. Grimm soon decided that rather than be a deliverer of souls to the afterlife, he'd be a eater of souls. However, this would lead to him becoming a raving addict. This would push him to the brink of madness. He decided to go to Calypso once more and compete in Twisted Metal for the one thing he desires most. To be rid of his duties as the grim reaper.
In his ending, Grimm appears to Calypso, who congratulates him on his victory. Grimm ignored him and indulged himself by devouring a nearby soul. Calypso asked if he felt better, but Grimm explained that it did not, and his addiction was out of control. He begged Calypso to help him. Calypso told him to be more specific as to what he truly desired. Grimm asked Calypso to make someone else the Grim Reaper so that he could become mortal. Calypso did just that, turning a nearby little girl into the Grim Reaper, while transforming Grimm into a human. Grimm was more than happy to except his new role in society as a mortal. He was so excited he didn't notice that he had ran out in front of incoming traffic. Meaning, that right after gaining his mortality back, he was immediately killed by a semi-truck.
Twisted Metal (2012)[]

In the 2012 game, Daniel Grimm was a normal human and the son of a motorcycle stuntman, who went under the show name, Mr. Grimm. He was extremely close to his father, but one day, his father was killed in one of his jumps. Daniel Grimm's life began a slow downward spiral after that night. He ended up a robber and murderer who led his gang of miscreants known as The Skulls. Whilst going under his father's show name. One day, Grimm learned of the Twisted Metal Tournament. He also learned about how the head of the competition, Calypso, would give the winner whatever wish they desired. Determined to go back in time to prevent his father from making the jump that ended his life, Mr. Grimm entered Twisted Metal.
The Brothers Grimm
Mr. Grimm started his campaign of carnage in Diesel City, a place that had once been full of life but was now a shell of its former self. Mr. Grimm and send two of his best gang members to engage serial killer, Needles Kane, also known as Sweet Tooth, using a pair of heavily modified monster trucks, dubbed the Brothers Grimm. The gang had been promised that if they killed Sweet Tooth, they would win a spot in next year's Twisted Metal tournament. The clown managed to destroy one of the trucks, prompting the other to activate a powerful suit of armor. However, Sweet Tooth drove under the truck, allowing his gunner to climb on the bottom and plant some C4. The clown detonated it, destroying the armor and finally taking down the other truck.

Mr. Grimm would go on to Devil's Canyon for his final event. There, Grimm was confronted by Dollface piloting a giant robot called the Iron Maiden, alongside her gang, The Dolls. Using a missile launcher left by Calypso, Grimm succeeded in damaging the Iron Maiden enough to lower its force field, before shooting it down, leaving it clinging to a bridge. He managed to knock the Iron Maiden into the pit below, but Dollface detached the robot's head, which flew up to try and kill him one last time. Grimm managed to take Dollface down for the final time, seemingly killing her, once and for all. He went to Calypso to collect his prize, crashing into his office through the window on his motorcycle. Grimm demanded to be sent back to save his father. Calypso was compliant.
Calypso would send him back in time, putting him in the backseat of his father's truck with Grimm's younger self and his father. Thinking the modern Grimm was trying to attack them, his father started grappling with him, causing the car to crash and killing him anyway. Grimm awoke to find his younger self with his father's gun trained on him and before being shot, he thought to himself that he would've done the same thing.
Vehicle[]

Mr. Grimm's primary vehicle is a heavily armed motorcycle that shares his name (though it is called Reaper in the 2012 reboot.), it is fast and maneuverable and features a mounted gun, though it can't take much damage. It can also fire hellish skulls, though, in the first game, it could unleash the souls of the dead and in Black, it could fire an exploding scythe. In Twisted Metal (2012), the rider can throw chainsaws, which they can drag on the ground to set ablaze. It also featured an RPG.

- Mr. Grimm is one of three characters to appear in every game, the others being Sweet Tooth and Calypso.
- The only games Mr. Grimm doesn't ride a motorcycle is in Twisted Metal 4 and optionally, Twisted Metal (2012).
- In Twisted Metal (2012) during Grimm's fight with the Iron Maiden, Dollface threatens to kill him and wear his skull as a helmet, before jokingly asking where she heard that before. This is a reference to Grimm's habit of wearing Benny's skull in Twisted Metal: Black.
