Dark Cure is the secondary antagonist of the anime series Heartcatch Pretty Cure!. She is Sabaku's second-in-command and most trusted subordinate, serving as his last resort when every other minion has failed. After growing weary of his minions' endless failures, Sabaku sends her to deal with the Cures herself.

It is eventually revealed that she was created by Sabaku from Yuri's bone, making her Yuri's clone. With the reveal that Sabaku is in fact Yuri's father, this makes her Yuri's sister as well. She eventually dies after being defeated by Cure Moonlight, but not before being assured by her father and making peace with the Cures.

She was voiced by Minami Takayama.

Appearance[]

Dark Cure is pale white with short teal hair, three red spike-like hair clips, and two color eyes: the left is gold and the right is blue. Her left eye usually closes. She wears a short black dress with a black dragon-like wing on the left, with a black glove on her left arm and a long white glove on her right arm.

Personality[]

Dark Cure is stoic and calm yet fierce. She is loyal to Sabaku, who she considers her father figure. Being Cure Moonlight's archenemy, she wishes to eliminate the latter at all cost. She is also very good at strategy and manages to lure the Cures into fighting her many times.

It's later revealed that Sabaku is actually her father, as he created her from his his biological daughter, Yuri's bone. Even then, she is still loyal to him and attempts to attack Cure Moonlight for hurting him. Once she's dying, she feels solace of being assured by her father and also makes peace with the Cures, redeeming herself in her final moments.

History[]

First Fight with Cure Moonlight[]

Heartcatch Pretty Cure! - Dark Tact

Dark Cure with her Dark Tact.

Dark Cure was created by Sabaku using the bone of his daughter, Yuri Tsukikage. She once fought Cure Moonlight and successfully defeated the latter, but failed to kill the Tree of Hearts. Cure Moonlight then tells Sabaku that the tree would be alive as long as Pretty Cure existed, so he ordered Dark Cure to finish her off. However, Cure Moonlight used her Pretty Cure Seed to protect herself, Chypre and Coffret, allowing Chypre and Coffret to escape with two new Heart Perfumes.

New Pretty Cure[]

Dark Cure is seen alongside Sabaku whenever he gives orders to a minion to fight the Pretty Cure. With multiple defeats from the Desert Messengers at the hand of the Pretty Cure, Sabaku finally loses his patience altogether and decides to send Dark Cure instead.

Seeking to destroy Cure Moonlight, Dark Cure attacks the train station where Yuri's mother works to lure Yuri to fight and succeeds. The two fight, but before Dark Cure can destroy Yuri, the mysterious guy appears and later Pretty Cure appear to fight her. Just when she defeats them, Sabaku orders her to return to the base.

Some time later, Dark Cure successfully locates the Tree of Heart under Sabaku's orders, only to discover a newborn fairy who escapes with the tree. Knowing Pretty Cure would try to repair the tree's barrier, she follows and battles them even though Cure Sunshine has recently joined the team. However, the Cures manage to push her far away so they can repair the barrier, and the tree then teleports with them.

Rebirth[]

Zerochan.Dark.Precure

The Orb used to restore Dark Cure's powers.

Later, Dark Cure uses the Heart Seed to find Yuri and once again fights the Cures, with Yuri asking her why she's so obsessed with defeating them, and Dark Cure only vaguely says that it's because Yuri is the light and she's the darkness of the moon. The fight ends with Yuri defeating Dark Cure, but Sabaku then appears and rescues her, containing her in an orb so that she can recover. She later returns when the Cures are ready to defeat Cobraja, no longer having heterochromia. She then unleashes a huge amount of power toward the Cures, collects Cobraja and leaves.

Downfall and Defeat[]

Sabaku later kidnaps Kaoruko to lure the Cures into rescuing her. During the battle, Chypre attacks Sabaku and he tries to pull her away, just when he sees Cure Moonlight about to finish off Dark Cure. Wanting to rescue his daughter, he takes the hit and causes the mask to fall off, revealing his true identity as Yuri's father. He then reveals how he created Dark Cure, and later after Cure Moonlight defeated her, that she is Cure Moonlight's younger sister as she was created with Yuri's bone.

As Dark Cure is about to attack Cure Moonlight again, Sabaku stops her and tells her that she can rest now. Smiling, she gives the other half of Cure Moonlight's Pretty Cure Seed back, before fading away in peace.

Powers[]

Dark Cure appears to be a very formidable opponent, even to Pretty Cure themselves. She is able to generate red shields that are powerful enough to defend herself against Pink Forte Wave with ease. They can also be used offensively, but still with great force. Furthermore, her closed gold eye, once open, seems to have the ability to drastically strengthen her attacks, and can also create violent gusts of winds to throw back the opponent.

With her Dark Tact, she can use Dark Forte Wave and Dark Power Fortissimo. Both attacks seem to be stronger than the Pretty Cure's versions, making her nearly unbeatable. However, Cure Moonlight is able to fight in par with her, and once she regains her Heart Flower, Cure Moonlight can even defeat her.

Trivia[]

  • Considering her apparent age, the fact her Dark Forte Wave still resembles a flower and relationship to Yuri Tsukikage, a fan theory was that Dark Cure might have been part of Cure Moonlight's generation and turned to dark side. The theory was eventually debunked.
  • Dark Cure, before her rebirth, has two different coloured eyes which is known as heterochromia. She later has been shown to not have heterochromia on her eyes anymore.
  • Dark's Birthday Is Unknow.
