He is the son of Rachel Dunleavy and the illegitimate son of Lionel Luthor, therefore the half-brother of Lex Luthor, Tess Mercer and Julian Luthor.
He was portrayed by Paul Wesley (credited as Paul Wasilewski), who also played Stefan Salvatore and Silas in The Vampire Diaries.
Appearance[]
Lucas has brown hair with dark blonde highlights which are spiked up, gray eyes, slightly tanned skin, and is clean-shaven most of the time. He was young and athletic by working out to keep his body in great shape.
Personality[]
Lucas is a volatile sociopathic person who is willing to do just whatever it takes to become wealthy and save himself with no remorse. He intentionally tried to elbow Clark just so he could win a basketball game, attempted to fire Lana Lang from the Talon to get back at Clark for gathering information on him, and knocked Jonathan Kent out when he came to kidnap Lex. Lucas was also willing to betray his family for money. Despite this, Lex decided to take care of Lucas since he wanted family intimacy and protected him in the end from their father.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Years ago, Lionel had an affair with Rachel Dunleavy, his wife Lillian's nurse, and became pregnant with his child. He then forced Rachel to give up Lucas for adoption due to her unstable mental condition. He also paid Rachel a large amount of money to get her to leave him and his family alone. About twelve years later, Lionel located Lucas and anonymously gave him financial support, though he falsely claimed to Lex that Lucas died before his first birthday. Lucas grew up in poverty while being bounced from foster home to foster home.
Prodigal[]
In the Season 2 episode, Lex found Lucas in Edge City after a seven-month search and saved his half-brother from some Yakuza gangsters who were pursuing Lucas because he cheated them at a poker game. Lex takes Lucas to LuthorCorp to meet their father as well as organize a takeover of the company, which Lex hopes to carry out since Lucas, being legal age, is due to claim his inheritance.
Clark and Pete were playing basketball at the Kent Farm when Lex arrives and introduces them to Lucas. Pete invites him to play, but shortly afterward, Lex got a page and had to leave suddenly. Clark asks if Lucas can stay a little longer and they continue their game and chat.
Lucas said he grew up all over the place and not having any parents has made him strong and independent. Clark and Lucas' game got more intense as they try to show each other up. Clark uses a bit of his abilities to beat him. Pete reins Clark in, but Lucas intentionally tried to elbow Clark in the chest and hurts himself instead. The game ends and Pete took Lucas home.
Lucas, however, betrays Lex when Lionel gave him ten million dollars to sign his shares away, and together, they take Lex's share of the inheritance and throw him out of the Luthor Mansion, forcing him to move in with the Kents. Lionel approaches Lucas and reminds him that he forgot to sign over his shares to the company as they agreed. Lucas looks bored and didn't want to stop playing video games to talk about it.
Lucas realizes that, at his age, he can have a more sizable inheritance than what Lionel is offering. He also harbors anger towards his father for abandoning him. Lionel shrugs off his questions and insists he sign the agreement. Lucas scrawls "bite me" on the contract, and notices Lionel's visibly react. Lionel stutters that he trusts him, so Lucas tried again.
He even realizes that Lionel was never blind and forces him to admit he has since regained his sight by throwing a pool ball at him. Lionel asks what he wanted and he says he wants to inherit everything. Lucas also took control of all of Lex's assets, including the Talon, and tried to fire Lana Lang just to get back at Clark Kent for collecting information about him.
Lex went back to the mansion to confront Lucas. Lucas tells him that Lionel contacted him three weeks ago. Lex warns him to be careful of Lionel's games and to beware of his "friends" in Edge City. Lucas went to the Talon and berates Clark for being late for his shift and tells Lana to fire him. Lana refuses, so he threatens to fire her too, but the new partnership agreement doesn't allow that and he leaves in a huff.
Clark, while trying to convince Lucas to change his mind about Lana, ends up saving Lucas when one of the Yakuza gangsters locates Lucas and tries to kill him. Lex discovers that Lionel tipped the gangsters off on Lucas' whereabouts and reveals that to his half-brother.
The next day, Lionel counsels with Lucas. Lex will not go away without a fight. Lucas wonders if, instead of Lex, it is actually Lionel who wants him out of the picture, but Lionel assures him that Lucas has impressed him with the way he has stood up to him, a strength that Lex doesn't have.
When Lex left the Kent Farm, Lucas comes up from behind and cold-cocks Jonathan with a gun. Clark arrives at the mansion to confront Lionel about the contrivance of the whole Lucas situation. Lionel dismisses Clark when he receives a call from Lucas asking for a meeting. Clark eavesdrops and learns the meeting will be in Lionel's office in Metropolis. Later, Lucas kidnaps Lex from the Kent Farm, knocking out Jonathan Kent as he does so, and called Lionel, demanding that he come to his office at LuthorCorp.
When Lionel arrives at his office, Lucas swears to kill Lionel unless Lionel kills Lex, who is taped to a chair. Lionel pleads with Lucas to put the gun down, and Lex realizes that Lionel is no longer blind. Clark (who, having followed Lionel, hides in an air vent) uses his heat vision on Lucas' gun, causing him to drop it. Lionel then shoots Lucas multiple times in a fit of anger, only to find that his gun is instead filled with blanks.
Lucas and Lex then reveal to their dumbfounded father that they schemed together to prove Lionel is no longer blind and have Lex run LuthorCorp again. They leave, and Lionel notices the melted hole in the ceiling. By the episode's end, Lex informs Lionel that he sent Lucas to a place where he would be protected, and Lionel told his oldest son that Lucas was a sociopath and would never change. He was never mentioned or seen again in the series.
