Phillipe Loren is the overarching antagonist of the 2011 video game Saints Row: The Third, its 2020 remake and a minor antagonist in its 2013 sequel Saints Row IV.
He is the leader of The Syndicate and The Morningstar Division, who wanted to control the city of Steelport with an iron fist and keep any gang from their territory. Although he dies early in the story, his legacy continues with the Syndicate's new leadership, Killbane.
He was voiced by JB Blanc, who also played Zinyak in Saints Row IV.
Personality[]
He is a tall man of average weight with white hair, and has a habit of chain smoking cigarettes. Wherever he goes, he is frequently accompanied by his two lieutenants and protégées, Viola and Kiki DeWynter. Phillipe has expensive tastes in clothing, wearing a fancy, red and black suit complete with a red scarf around his neck. He has a great deal of money behind him and owns a private Gawalek A36 as well as one or two skyscrapers in the city of Steelport.
According to Steve Jaros, lead writer for Saints Row: The Third, he describes him as "kind of a Bond villain." He is statuesque, serene, elegant, a total gentleman, he is not effeminate and he does not play with that European stereotype. He too he is coldly logical, dangerous and very intelligent.
Biography[]
At the start of the game, Phillipe Loren has Playa, Johnny Gat, and Shaundi bailed out of jail following a failed, botched bank robbery at the Stilwater 1st National Bank. The Saints are restrained and brought aboard Phillipe's private Gawalek A36, bound for Steelport, where he offers to let them live if they agree to the terms he presents them. After Gat and Playa blankly refuse, a firefight breaks out, during which Gat smashes Phillipe's face into a window, ultimately causing permanent damage to his left eye.
It turns out that Playa has made a powerful enemy in Phillipe, who's far more powerful than those they faced in Stilwater. He's a successful international arms dealer and essentially the leader of the criminal underworld in Steelport.
Shortly after the Saints' arrival in Steelport, Phillipe has to wear an eyepatch to cover his injured eye, and he calls upon the other leading members of The Syndicate: Killbane of The Luchadores and Matt Miller of The Deckers, to destroy their new enemy. Matt is tasked with bankrupting The Saints by hacking into their accounts and stealing all their money. Killbane is tasked with gathering up his forces and bringing Phillipe the head of Playa.
While assaulting Phillipe Loren's base of operations at The Syndicate Tower, The Saints meet the giant Oleg Kirrlov, whom The Morningstar is using as a patron to create an army of brutes. Oleg offers to help The Saints take down Phillipe, and they free him from captivity. In the ensuing chaos, Phillipe tries to escape via a private elevator. In response, Playa hops onto a large counterweight in the upper atrium of the building, and has Oleg detach it from the ceiling; riding it all the way down to the parking garage in the basement. As Phillipe walks out of the elevator, he gets crushed beneath the Ball and is killed.
Years later, after the Zin destroyed Earth, a virtual clone of Loren acts as an enemy to both the Saints leader, who is now President, and Johnny Gat.

- Marketing information gave off the impression that Phillipe Loren would serve as the main antagonist of the game. However this turned out to be false when he was killed off in the first act, and ultimately replaced by Killbane.
- He is described as being similar to a James Bond villain by lead writer Steve Jaros who directed the third game.
- Loren is always mistaken for French to his dismay, as he is actually Belgian, and he will not hesitate to correct anyone who believes he's French.
- The leader of the Saints mistakes him for being French at their first meeting in the plane.
- He is called Frenchy by Johnny Gat and he corrected Johnny by telling him that he is Belgian with a tone of anger, though Johnny may have just been messing with him.
- Steelport Mayor Burt Reynolds himself mistakes Loren for French with Viola correcting him.
- Strangely, his virtual clone has two eyes like when he first appeared while the real and current Loren has one eye.
- Phillipe was originally going to be unlocked as a homie in Saints Row IV after his boss fight, but for reasons unknown this wasn't kept in the final game. The PC version can be modified to make Phillipe a homie, and he will interact with other homie characters.
- This also gives some revelations, which reveals that the Ultor Corporation was afflicted with the Syndicate and had dealings with them. This is the reason why the Syndicate were able to operate in Stilwater at the beginning of Saints Row: The Third without the Saints knowledge.
