Lars

Lars

Lars is one of Tony Perkis' camp counselors and the secondary antagonist of the 1995 Disney film Heavyweights.

He was portrayed by Tom Hodges.

Biography[]

Not much is known about Lars (i.e. When a camper asks where he's from, Lars responds, simply, "Far away"), but he seems to be Austrian due to his name and his accent. Though seemingly devoted to Tony, once the kids overthrow Tony, they leave Lars in the woods and one of the kids learned if Lars doesn't have a job, he'd get deported.

That's not the only embarrassing thing which ends up being revealed about Lars, though; While he put up a tough, bullying exterior towards campers and adults alike for the first half of the movie, when Tony was overthrown and Lars was tied to a tree by the campers, Lars revealed himself to actually be a pitiful coward deep down, shrieking in terror at a small deer approaching him while he was tied to the tree.

When the campers learn about Lars's employment/ citizenship situation, they approach him (He had been tied to the tree for several hours at this point) and tell him about it. They then ask Lars if he's with them or against them. Lars immediately switches sides and even joins the binge eating party. The next morning, Lars's "Tough guy" image is further destroyed by the fact that he is seen sucking on his thumb like a toddler while he's sleeping. Once Pat takes over, Lars stays on as a camp counselor, becomes much kinder and more lenient towards the campers (Most likely because he realizes this is the best way to ensure he keeps his job, and with it, his citizenship), and truly seems to like Pat being in charge of the camp, even cheering with rest of the camp when Gerald wins the go-cart race.

He had a crush on Nurse Julie but accepts that she had feelings for Pat and even cheered when Pat and Julie kiss.

As a final proof of Lars's redemption, in the song that the film's heroes sing over the film's end credits, Pat asks each of them if they are "Heavyweights," and when it's Lars's turn, he proudly shouts "I'M A HEAVYWEIGHT!"
