Rat and Weasel are villains in the animated TV series Courage the Cowardly Dog. They are 2 wicked, grotesque animals that own an extremely creepy and unidentified mattress business as well as the said business's deliverymen with a dark-green 19th-century styled coach carriage carried by a black horse with a gold mask-like helmet with one horn (which is the mask's prop). But what's dangerously unknown to their unsuspecting mortal "customers" is that each of the wicked deliverymen's soft & smooth mattresses carries an unnamed evil spirit waiting to consume the souls of her tired & sleepy prey and possesses their bodies forever.

Appearances[]

Rat is hunchbacked, with brown fur, red eyes, red ears, and a stitched scar on his side. In The Tower of Dr. Zalost, Rat remains the same, but with purple fur and makes a noise that is a mix of a snarl and a sigh.

Weasel has purple fur, a rattlesnake tail, a big, blue, bug-eye, and a normal eye.

History[]

They first delivered to Muriel Bagge who looking to order a new bed mattress to replaced her current one. After the end of "The Demon in the Mattress", Rat and Weasel were not seen again until the next episode "Courage in the Big Stinkin' City", where they drove Courage to the creepy tower.

Weasel is absent from the show, but Rat returns in The Tower of Dr. Zalost, as Dr. Zalost's henchman, pet and son. Rat's personality is at first cold and calculating, and the noise he makes, "Ehhhh.", indicates his melancholy being physically and emotionally abused by Dr. Zalost.

Rat is surprisingly good at numbers, as seen counting money, but Dr. Zalost's fragile emotional state is often Rat's obstacle, with Dr. Zalost constantly asking for hugs. But unfortunately, Rat is constantly mistreated by Zalost, being berated for not giving Zalost a proper hug, not attacking the Bagge family and even getting scolded at for ordering a pizza Zalost didn't order, which caused a buildup of repressed anger that's unleashed when he got hit by one of Zalost's Unhappy Cannonballs, which transforms him into a monstrous version that bears a strong resemblance to Warooey.

But then, after being fed Muriel's Happy Plums, Rat is turned to a baby, complete with a diaper, and is more in touch with his emotions as he's mostly seen crying throughout the rest of the episode, showing remorse for his actions and that Rat also loves hugs. At the end of the episode, Dr. Zalost, who reformed after eating Muriel's Happy Plums, finally gives Rat a hug, which greatly relieves the baby rodent, who gives out a relieved sigh and a relieved laugh as a response, and that the two reconciled with each other and Zalost stopped abusing Rat, and they created a father-son relationship.
