The God of Death, also known as The Reaper, is the secondary antagonist of the anime and manga series Assassination Classroom. He was an assassin acting as the first protégé of Korosensei. The title “God of Death” initially belonged to Koro-Sensei, however upon betraying him he stole his identity and name.
He was voiced by Nobumaga Shimazaki in Japanese and Ian Sinclair in English.
Biography[]
After he saw his father being killed by Koro-Sensei, he admired his skill and therefore decided to become an assassin. He begged the man to train him and reluctantly, he obliged. He was trained by Koro-Sensei for several years, however the God of Death was abused and treated poorly, only being used as a tool. As one mission involved Koro-Sensei infiltrating a prison facility unarmed, the God of Death made a deal with Shiro’s lab for first class agents to capture his mentor once he was cornered.
After that, he became the world's best assassin after taking on the name and skills of his former master, and learning some of his own. Upon hearing about the bounty on Koro-Sensei’s head, he took on the challenge not knowing his true identity. His attempt failed and was defeated by Karasuma, consequently being knocked unconscious. The God of Death was later taken in by Shiro and was offered to become a super being using the antimatter. Despite the fact this would reduce his life span to 3 months, he obliged, wanting to be strong like Koro-Sensei and to take him down.
In the final battle, his power far succeeded that of his former master. His anger grew and grew until his regard for anything besides power was irrelevant, and he almost killed Kaede Kayano. This infuriated Koro-Sensei, causing him to release an energy beam that began to disintegrate the God of Death. They shared an emotional moment together and reverted back to humans momentarily before he faded away and died.
Appearance[]
The God of Death is a young man of average height, usually wearing a black leather coat and green trousers. His short hair is silver, with amber eyes and noticeable eyelashes. Without his face, he appears as a red skull with the same-coloured silver hair.
As an antimatter creature, he’s a very large monstrous being with black tentacles and the same skull face.
Personality[]
When he was a child, he was lonely and raised by parents who did not love him. Then one day he saw an aspiration of his life through the killer of his father and sought to become like him by seeking his approval.
At first the second God of Death was very happy to be trained under his master and was very loyal towards his master, alas, he slowly started to hate him because his master was thinking his apprentice only as his convenient tool and not caring or considering him at all, leading him to become a bitter, egoistical and sadistic.
This would later come back to haunt Koro-sensei and his students of Class E. It is possible that he attempted to claim lives of Class E's students out of sheer envy as they had something he was never able to have, genuine love from their beloved teacher.
